5.1) Have you got the Android Lollipop update on yous Moto G? What are your favorite Android Lollipop features?

Motorola did a nice job again!  After rolling out Android Lollipop 5.0 update to Moto G 2014  (2nd Gen)  in November, Motorola started to roll out Lollipop update to the old Moto G (Moto G 1st Gen, aka, Moto G 2013) last week.

For dual-SIM Moto G 2013 and Moto G LTE, the Lollipop 5.0 update will come soon.

Now, Motorola is the only Android vendor who even beats Google to roll out Android updates.

Android Lollipop is a major  update. Many new features are introduced, in addition to many improvements you will enjoy.

Even some seasoned Moto G or Android users may get confused on how to get the best from Android Lollipop, we are preparing some detailed tutorials to show you how to use the new features in Android Lollipop in Moto G.

Please check out Moto G how to guide page in coming days.

Before releasing these guides, let me first introduce you the  top 5 new Android Lollipop features in Moto G and Moto G 2014 with the update.

1. Ambient display

One of the most prominent features of Moto X is  the Active display (which was re-branded as Moto display later).

Ambient display, which is a new feature in Android Lollipop 5.0,  works in a similar way.

Once ambient display is enabled, Moto G will wake up to display the notification as soon as it is picked up or new notifications arrive.

You can even use it to wake up the display by picking it up without pressing any buttons.

2. New notification system

The notification was revamped in Android Lollipop 5.0.  You have full control on notifications now on Moto G with Android Lollipop update.

But it may be a bit complicated for some Android users.  Some Mort G users may also get confused.

For example, for notifications you can choose sound (the old sound mode), none (turning off all notifications including alarms, more aggressive than old silent mode), and priority (new, you have full control over the notifications).  You can even set a downtime if you are in campus.

3.  Battery saver

Finally, Android gets its official battery saving mode in Lollipop 5.0.  You can choose to turn it on only when battery level drops to certain value.

It can also predicate how long the battery can last before you have to charge it. Of course, a learning process for the system  is needed to get more accurate predication.

4. Screen pinning

Another cool feature of Android Lollipop in Moto G is screen pinning.

You can pin an app to the screen and leave it to your kids. Your kids cannot exit the app easily (they need tap and hold the back button and multitask button simultaneously) to unpin it.  You may also lend the phone to a stranger for an emergent call.

BTW, the  recent button now is officially named as multitask button. You will get a card like apps used recently  once tapped. It is very similar to Galaxy Note 4’s recent apps view.

5. Lollipop-flavored Flappy bird game

Every Android has some Easter eggs. For Android Lollipop on Moto G, of course, you get lollipops with various colors.

If you are a fan of Flappy bird game,  now you can enjoy the Lollipop edition of Flappy bird in Moto G.

Of course, there are many other new features in Moto G Android Lollipop update. We will release a series of guides on how to use these new features on Moto G, Moto E and Moto X.

Have you got the Android Lollipop update on yous Moto G? What are your favorite Android Lollipop features?

Please let’s discuss in the comments below.

it could be due to WhatsApp itself on some devices. Some users with various devices reported similar problem before.

You can try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps.

Is there any method to record the voice during the call in moto g2 android phone? Is there any trusted app which work on it?

Android and almost all vendors don’t offer this feature because it’s illegal to record a phone call without consent from the other party in most regions. Most such apps don’t work on lollipop.

It’s an electronic interference which comes to your headphones on laptop when your call is about to come on phone kept at side

Status bar is the top part of phone your screen. In old android, it’s opaque. Now it’s semi-transparent.

This is just an aesthetic aspect and not about function.

it is not for Moto G. it is actually for Chromecast on Nexus devices.

In Moto G 2nd gen, you need Chromecast app, then use screen cast feature. You may refer to this guide.

      2. On Moto G, you need install Chromecast app to cast screen. The cast screen option in quick settings is for Nexus devices only.

It depends on the software your company uses. If it’s an Exchange server, you need add the Exchange account to the phone. Then you can sync with the server directly.

Sync through outlook on pc is obsolete.

Some covers can wake up the screen when the cover is open (through magnetic).

There are some apps wake up the screen using proximity sensor. I do NOT recommend such apps because of battery drain.

I have Moto G Gen 1 and the Network status is always in orange irrespective of 2G or 3G. If it is in orange, my internet is not accessible in any way…is it related to my phone or SIM ? I saw your previous comments that data transfer happens, but i don’t see any network connectivity at all, but displays the “E” or “H”. Help highly appreciated ! Rebooted multiple times, Hard reboot done, am i missing something ?

the color differs from region to region. In Lollipop, it is white in most regions.

If you are using 2 SIM, you can try to test one at one time.

If you see E or H, it means you should have internet connection. If you still have no internet connection when you get the E a=or H icon, very likely, the APN (which can be got from the phone company) probably is not correct or internet connection is not enabled for your account.

To restart, you just hold the power button and ignore the on screen power options.

To reboot into recovery mode, you need follow this guide https://allaboutmotog.com/how-to-clear-cache-partition-on-moto-g-and-moto-x-after-android-lollipop-update/

Motorola does not offer reboot option or recovery option even in KitKat.

You can hold the power button (and ignore the on-screen options) until it reboots.

You can also power off, then power on.

To access recovery menu, please read this guide: https://allaboutmotog.com/how-to-clear-cache-partition-on-moto-g-and-moto-x-after-android-lollipop-update/

It’s normal if the screen is also on. The torch light is mainly for emergency use, not for extended long time.

I think Motorola only offers one-year warranty in most regions. Additional or extended warranty may be offered by some other local service providers. You need check with the local distributor.

But I don’t think it is worth the money. Moto G should be able to last 2 years for most users, and the extended warranty usually is very expensive (and with many limitations).

I have tried to configure the sims colors but it doesn’t work. Is there any way to get this feature back?

Active display is a feature of Moto X, not Moto G.

But in Lollipop, you have active ambient display. (settings–display–ambient display).

The cast screen option (through Chromecast) is for Nexus devices. It’s not working on moto g and other moto devices.

On moto g, you need install Chromecast app. You can then cast screen from chromecast app on moto g.

I think the xt1063 and xt1064 got the Lollipop update first in last November. Not sure about the dual sim variants.

You can check the update in Settings–About phone — System updates, If you get “your software is up to data”, it means the Lollipop update is not ready for your model.

It depends on the model number. Lollipop update was rolled out to selected Moto G and Moto G 2nd Gen models only.

You have to wait. By the end of January 2014, the lollipop update should be available for most models.
