Where are music files held? I have copied mp3s to the phone and can play them through “Play Music” but I don’t know where the files are held and how to delete unwanted ones.

How did you copy the file to the phone?

You can use any file manager (e.g., ES file explorer) to manage files on the phone.

In the UC browser, tap the menu key (bottom right), tap settings (in the 2 second page in the bottom), tap download settings. You can find the default the location and you you can change it.

By default, the download folder is in the internal storage/UCDownloads.

Because it is illegal in most regions to record a phone conversation without consent from the other party, Android removed this feature.

Probably the area is not covered by 3G network. Also, check with the phone company to make sure 3G data is enabled in your SIM card.

Hi Simon: I have 3G connection for mobile data(tatadocomo Sim) on my motog 2nd gen. But the connection shows at best an E (indoors) or at few times H/H+ outdoors. Connectivity is also poor in H/H+ status. The same Sim and connection was working absolutely fine on my Samsung grand and samsung s duos for last one year.
I have tried all permutations n combinations…switching the sims, putting off WiFi, all settings for network etc etc
On WiFi the connectivity is OK.
    Any solution?
    Thanks in advance

This is mainly due to antana design and network signal. You cannot do much. Occasionally, you can play with network type. But if may mess up the settings.

For sharing through Bluetooth, you need an app to initiate it (it you are receiving, you don;t need). You can try SuperBeam. There are many similar apps in the play store.

For chrome browser, you cna tap the 3 dots in the top right, the third icon in the top (between bookmark and 3 vertical dots) is refresh button.

Install a file manager. Moto G doesn’t come with any file manager.

You may try es file explorer : http://motoeguide.com/moto-e-guides/manage-files-moto-e-es-file-explorer-file-manager/

    Hi Simon,

Both of my simcards won’t connect to the mobile network at the same time. The company that I bought the phone from tells me that the phone is standby only and that only one sim can work at any one time. I believe I have read that both sims can be connected but when a call comes through the sim not receiving the call will go on standby.

    Can you clarify please?

    Cheers
    Toby

Dual standby means both can be in standby (waiting for incoming calls) simultaneously. But if one sim card is engaged on voice call, the other will be disconnected and not available.

But if one card is using 3g mobile data, the other card should still be in standby mode (available if someone dials this number) .

The first link is for online read. It is not for direct downloading. You MUST open it in your browser. Once you browser load the page, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots in the top right), check Request desktop site (because the mobile site version does not provide download link). The page should be reloaded and now in the top you have the download link (like in PC), then tap download to enter download page.

The second link does not work.

Settings–Apps, tap menu key ( 3 vertical dots in top right ), tap reset app preferences.

BTW, I think Moto G use whatever connection you have to download updates. It gives warning if you are suing mobile data (which usually is slow and unreliable).

You may download from your PC then transfer them to your Moto G.

Anyway, as mentioned in other comments, for PDF file, you can tap and hold the link, then choose save link to. But for such file sharing sites, the file location may be hidden and it may not work.

I don’t think Moto G delete contacts automatically. But your contact us sync with your Google account. Any changes made there will be synced with your phone. I’d you don’t want to sync with Google , you can disable the sync for contacts. But this is not recommended.

This was reported by some owners. There are no known solutions. What you can do is trying to backup your data and do a factory data reset.

You may also send the phone for Motorola to check it.

I have a Moto G with Android 4.4.2. My concern is that the Call Recorder does work properly on the phone. I can not record call both ways. I an only record the interaction at my end and not what the other person is saying.

    • simon says

      June 15, 2014 at 3:43 am

Unless you root the phone, you cannot recorder the other side (you can only record your side).

This is due to some legal (and privacy) reason. In most countries, it is illegal to record the phone call without consent from the other party.

Of course, you can use the phone speaker, and record with other recording devices (e.g., another smartphone).

You can connect your Moto G to your PC, then copy files to the Moto G. You can also upload them to your Google drive, then download them from your Moto G.

Once the files are in your Moto G, you need an app to read pdf files. QuickOffice is simple and versatile. It can read PDF file, in addition to editing MS word files. You can get it free from Play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickoffice.android&hl=en

If you need browse files in your Moto G, you should install a file manager. You may use ES File Explorer. You may follow this guide to install it: http://motoeguide.com/moto-e-guides/manage-files-moto-e-es-file-explorer-file-manager/

What is SMS storage limit in case of moto g? Is it dependent on number of SMS or space occupied by SMS.

I think it’s limited by the space you have. In some old versions of android, there is a 500 limit.

Anyway, a good practice is to backup your sms regularly (there are many free apps) and keep a copy in your backup drive.

You need use third party launchers, e.g., nova, to hide apps on Moto G. The stock launcher doesn’t support this feature.

For pre installed apps, you can disable them (and therefore hide these apps).

It is possible. But very likely, the laptop cannot provide sufficient current. Normally, PC should be able to provide higher current. If you don’t use it when connecting to the PC, you should see the increase of the battery percentage after 10-15mins.

You need find ways to install the USB drive if your PC/laptop cannot identify your phone.

You can also try to install the generic Google USB driver: http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html

Moto G does not have a native file manager. Actually, all new Motorola phones do not have file managers.

You have at least two ways to manager the files:
1). On Moto G, you can install third-party file managers to view and manage files/folders. ES File manager is simple to use and works with Moto G nicely. And it is free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop

2). You can also connect your Moto G to a PC using the USB cable. Then you can manage files on your Moto G from the PC.

In a few regions, there is a stock file browser with which you can delete your video files.

You can delete your own files, not the system files. You can always do this from pc when the phone is connect to it with USB.

You can also use some file managers, for example, ES file manager, to do the job.

You can long press the movie thumbnail in vlc and delete or just use ES File Manager or FX File manager from the play store.

But if you want to go really cool, try Airdroid.
