  My brother has a Moto G 3rd GEN and he decided to use the Memory SD card as internal to increase space.
  But he is getting a lot of problems due to Memory space.
  We already went to setting app and delete the cache. ( we have now 11.19 MB ) after delete cache
  We check in ES File Explorer where internal memory looks fine. Emptied Recycle Bin

  The problem comes when we check Storage & USB
  13.84GB Total used of 37.24 GB
  Android OS 3.46 GB
  Internal Storage 4.37 GB used of 4.54 GB ( marked a warning triangle )
  SD Card
  6.02 used of 29.24

  My Moto G 3rd GEN is separed internal and SD Card, so it's been confusing how to check what files are in the internal memory and what files in the SD Card. After all he use the SD Card as internal.

  • When you choose to use SD card as internal storage, you cannot check whether a file is saved in internal storage or SD card. The usage report in Settings - storage and USB is the most accurate one.

    When you set SD card as internal storage, you should choose to migrate data. This would move media files as SD card. And in the future, system will try to use SD card when possible. But this doesn't change your existing apps. So if you set SD card as internal storage when internal storage is low already, you may still face internal storage issue.

    In this​ case, you should set the SD card as internal storage when internal storage is not too low.

    You can back up the phone, then try a factory data reset. You can set SD card as internal storage before you re-install apps. This should solve your issue.

• My MotoG4 running Nougat doesn't like being used during charging. The screen keeps jumping to an enhanced size / enlarged text. Google Maps now gets an overlay of 1/3 of the screen with lines of html or machine code, so becomes impossible to use. I have to switch on navigation / 4G first, before plugging in the charger. Maybe it's the app, but it's all got worse recently.

• Hi, after updating my MotoG3 to android 6.0.1 I facing lot of problem. Before update my Bluetooth headset and speaker working fine with my phone. After update I couldn't speak on calls using Bluetooth. Bluetooth function working only to play music. Tried playing some videos on YouTube & Facebook, but suddenly it will get disconnected. My music controls on blue tooth not working with my phone after update. I tried connecting different Bluetooth headsets but still it is same with every device. I have checked same Bluetooth devices with MI4 and IPhone 6,6S and all are working fine.

  • You can try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps.

    If the problem Bluetooth problem persists after clearing cache partition, you can try to back up the phone and try to reset the phone.

  • Are you using single sim card or two sim cards?

    You can try to reboot the phone and check mobile network status.

• Hi Guys,
  i was avoiding the Marshmallow update for a while but finally decided to take it. After the update, notification sounds were missing after some use.
  I made a full reset deleting everything hoping it will get me back to the previous android. Well, that did not work and i am still stuck with marshmallow and also the ringtone/notification problem.
  The problem is that after reset, the phone rings, gives notification sounds from apps but after some time it just stops. When i open the sounds and notification settings menu and click on the ringtone (Mp3 ) it does not play. Funny things is that most of the other Default ringtones do not play as well.

  Another thing is that the music player is unable to play any songs as well.

  Any ideas because this is very frustrating.

  • Forgot to mention that in the same time, other sounds like calls, sound touch, loudspeaker are working. Also phone vibrates on the notifications - for example message, incoming call, e-mail but no sound for the notification.

    The do not disturb setting is off also and the moto options for turning off the screen etc are off as well

    • When you set the notification tone, does anyone play? None of them plays? What's the volume settings?

      For music playing, you can download VLC for Android from play store and try to use it to play local music files.

      • Only some of the original ones play which is very odd. For example the one named Moto does NOT. Also the Alarm Clock Extreme app only vibrates. It looks like after a while phone cant play some sorts of files. Also Messenger or viber notification sounds do not sound.
        Volume is all the way up, no micro SD inside.

        Listening to music I might be able to live with but the notification is terrible. For example i just got a call and all i could see was the phone lighting up and its vibration. After restart all is fine for a while.

        IF it was a computer i would say a driver buut since this was a legitimate update of the software I cant seem to find a solution. However i will try the app to see if it changes anything.

        Any other suggestions?

        • You may back up the phone, then try to factory data reset the phone.

          After the reset, you can try not to restore apps and test notifications. Sometimes, the problem can be caused by third-party apps.

• Hello...
  In Moto g4 plus when I increase the media sound volume level 10 above operating system is completely force stopped and come to locked screen with password (if pwd applied). Why this problem occuringe? Is it because there is bug to show [[Warning Message]] like other devices show ' Dangerous to hear high volume sound.' or something other reason.
  Pls give me a solution to encounter this problem.

  • It sounds like a bug related to the music player you are using. Did you try to change the volume in Settings--sound and notifications--Media volume?

    Moto G does not offer the high-volume warning message in most regions.

  Since updating to Marshmallow on my Moto G 2nd gen the phone's internal memory has started to disappear. I am now up to 2.8GB of space (about one third of the total) that is inaccessible and not attributed to Android (2.49GB), Apps (2.53GB) and cache (.2GB). Does anybody know how I can get this memory back again?

  • In settings--storage & USB, for internal storage usage, does it show XXX GB used of 5.51GB?

    Some files downloaded by app internally may be marked as temp files and may be not counted correctly.

    Log files are rotated automatically. But if something goes wrong, the old file may be not deleted automatically. Such files are not counted by default.

    If you use some file manager apps to delete files, some apps may use "trash" instead of deleting them completely.

    Anyway, if you are not sure, you may back up the phone, then try a factory data reset.

  I have idea 4g sim inserted into first slot of moto g2. It works properly for some time and disappears. It says no sim present in first slot. Once restarted it reappears. After some time same issue. Please help.

  • Not sure. Did you try to re-insert the sim card? Sometimes, loose contact may give a similar issue.

  I am using Moto G2 Phone. I have some storage issues of around 2GB internal memory. I recently did a Factory reset and installed all my required Apps from Play store.
  But still i am facing this 2 GB space issue in Internal Memory. Could you please guide me to resolve this issue as i am not sure how to resolve this even after factory reset and fresh installation of new Apps.
  Could you please let me know installation of Google Docs & Sheets will create any storage issue?

  • Well I bought this phone two months ago refurbished for $100 from best buy and loved it until it died and havent been able to use it since. Opened it up since BestBuy wouldnt help me and it looks as though someone has already had an issue with the point of contact between the motherboard and the place where the battery attaches. I barely touched it and it came right off. So now i have to buy a whole new battery solder it back on and blah blah blah. last moto i will ever purchase

    • It should be still under warranty. Did you check it with Motorola on the issue?

      • You can check storage usage in Settings- storage.

        If you really need all the apps installed and you don't want to use SD card as internal storage, then you should get a phone with larger internal storage.

        • No, it is not normal. Marshmallow update should not slow down your Moto G or drain more battery.

          You may first try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps.

          If not, you may back up your data and files, then try a factory data reset.

        • Hi Simon, so if I do a factory data reset, Am I going to lost my cellphone company settings? My pictures and important documents are in my Sd card, should I save them in other place?

        • For cell phone company settings, they are mainly saved in the SIM card. Very few phone companies rely on settings on the phone. But anyway, all settings on the phone will be erased.

          For contents in SD card, you should ALWAYS back up them if the data are important. You need also to check the backups.

          If you used SD card as internal storage, you MUST back up them to your PC or other safe places. If you use the SD card as portable storage, you can remove the SD card before resetting, although it is not required.

          So far I did the clear partition cache and worked so good. I got more than 24 hrs battery than 12hrs tops I was getting before the partition cache.
          It's working faster I think.
          I 'll keep in mind the reset data in the future if necessary.

• Have issues with Marshmallow (Android 6.0.1) update.

  - Phone was working fine, 4-5 days back it suddenly got stuck and the problems begin.
  - My spouses phone (Moto G-2, Android 6.0) also got the same issue today.

  Issues:

  * Notification Bar on top of the screen not working.
  * Unable to receive calls. User busy message other end.
  * Phone lock not working
  * Home and recent items buttons not working

• I have a Moto G-2 phone and I am facing battery issues in it.Sometimes my phone is charged in night and all apps are closed,event then when I see in morning,the battery gets dischaged by 60-70%.Last night it was 92% at 11:30pm and in morning around 6am it was only 25%.I checked but no App was running.Then why my mobile is getting discharged this much on stand by too?

  • If it's hardware problem, you have to visit service center.

    Did you root the phone?

    You can also try safe mode.

• I recently purchased the motog 2nd generation from Amazon. The phone had been working great but this morning the phone is in a mode where the back button keeps automatically pressing making the phone unusable. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Did you try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps?

    Your can also back up the phone and try a factory data reset.

    If none of them works, you can check with Amazon whether you can return it.

  I have a Moto G 3rd gen and I've been having problems with it. First, It turns off and I can't turn it on normally, I have to have it connected and press the button for a while so it turns on, immediately when it turns on it shows a message that the SD card is not detected, but when I enter to Settings, Storage & USB, it is there, although not all the files are being calculated correctly because it varies the amount of data I'm using every time I check. Also, some apps I have stored there disappear. I'm guessing is because they are not loaded? I think after a while the apps appear again.

  I'm using Android 6.0, I've been reading the comments that there is a 6.1? Should I update. Although, I wouldn't like to have more problems with it.

  • My Moto g2 is not upgrading to Marshmallow..... What is the problem and how to upgrade it?? I brought mobile in 2015 September

    • What did you get when you check update? Is your Moto G2 a carrier model?

  • There is no Android 6.1. The Android 6.0.1 may have some bug fixes. But it's not a big deal and most vendors will skip it.

    For auto turning off issue, it could be caused by hardware issue or software issue.. Some apps may also cause issues. You may try to notice down what's the operation that leads to it.

    For SD card, after rebooting the phone, you should wait one or two minutes if you use the SD card as internal storage. A better SD card may also help.

• My phone keeps telling me I am running out of storage space, but wont let me into the options it did before so I can move pics to sd card, like it used to. I tried to connect it to my computer to move the images manually, but it tells me device not recognized

  • You need install Motorola device manager on the PC so that your phone can be recognized. You may refer to this guide on connecting Moto phones to PC.

    You should not use the phone till you get such warning. Check storage usage periodically. You can also automatically backup photos through Google Photos.

  • If this happens immediately after the update, you should backup the phone and try a factory data reset.

• I have updated my Moto G Turbo to MM 6.0.1, after updation like others I've also facing some lags in touch screen while scrolling, it takes as input and open up the content while scrolling. Any fixes available.

    • couldn't thank u enough bro ! worked like magic .. been contemplating for a long time now and wasn't able to decide between burning my moto g2 and then cursing it to hell or to throw it off Mt Everest and then run a tank over it .. all this after the dreaded mm update .. now after clearing the cache there s a very observable and considerable difference in the speed of the phone .. my only doubt is if I should do this again in the future, should my moto start lagging again ? thanks again ! cheers

      • You need to clear cache partition only after a major update.

• My handset is Moto G Turbo Edition , android lollipop 5.1 which have been updated to android marshmallow 6.0.1few months ago, yesterday I couldn't send text sms to any number and the message error code:-1.
  When I checked in setting I found that it has been disabled. So how do I enable this pre- installed messaging app?

  • Did you try it in Hangouts apps? You can set default messages app to hangouts.

  I had made my SD Card as Internal Storage after as per update of Marshmallow and was working perfectly. But yesterday while accessing one of the app, I git the error that App is not responding "Report the Problem, Wait, Close". I choose the option to Report. With in few seconds my the app disappears and after that it is showing that SD Card not inserted.
  I have tried all ways by reinserting and rebooting the device but of no use.. It is neither detected by phone nor by any card reader on PC.

  Please suggest. All my data is lost now

  • If SD card cannot be detected by SD card reader (although it cannot read it), it usually means the SD card is dead. You may have to get a new one.

    • I have had exactly the same issue. Since the update apps I install vanish. Set SD card to internal now lost all pics as can't access it.Camera now not working. SD card can't be detected even though it's there. It's NOT the SD card. I got a new one today which shows up. Occasionally the camera/gallery will work but not really. This surely must be the update? I don't know how to fix this!? My new SD card is now portable.

• Hii, I'm not sure if this problem is due to the update or not but if you could help me I would really appreciate it.
  Yesterday all of a sudden my phone restarted itself and my phone's settings where all set random.
  Usually where it says 'Deveolper Options' I can either turn that on or off, but now it says 'Deveolper Options are not available for this user' and now I also can't have a security lock on my phone, no settings on nonification bar and when I hear or get a nonification, the icon doesn't come up.
  I'm so confused and really need help quick, sorry for being so long paragraph but if you could help in any way, please and thank you.

  • Backup the phone and try a factory reset.

    Don't play with developer options unless you know why you need to enable/disable any options there.

• After upgrade, I could not make calls from Contacts. My contacts are keep on being updated. Most of times, its showing as empty. Also, If i read a SMS, still it becomes unread only. Please help me with these two problems.

  • For contacts, you can check sync status in Settings -account - Google. Tap the Google account to make sure all are synced.

  • Did you try it with other camera apps, for example, Google camera?

• Google has just stopped working on my Moto G 3. Have had many problems since MM. Past few days was very very sluggish, managed to clear cache and was much better. Now this has suddenly happened. What to do/

  • You can just reboot the phone.

    Anyway, after the update, if there are some problems and clearing cache cannot solve them, you may consider to back up the phone and try a factory data reset.

    • Thanks. I have turned phone off couple times. Message still there. Can do search through Chrome and other Google apps still work. Just can't do search on first page of phone. Will reboot when sorted out data etc.

      So far I had no problems when added my account Personal POP3. 2 days ago I started getting the message " couldn't sign in".
      A friend suggested to change:
      Incoming messages; Port 110 to 143 and Security: STARTTLS ( accept all certificates) to None.
      Outgoing messages; Security: STARTTLS to None.
      Apparently worked perfect as long as I was on Wifi but in data, same error back.
      So my friend suggested to delete my account and create it but using Personal IMAP.
      Worked fine for 1 hr and then, the same.

      What can I do?
      Never had this issue before.

        • Not sure. But if you can log in the first time, the identical settings are used subsequently.

          Do you use more than one ISP fire internet connection? Some ISPs may block some ports.

  I am using Moto G2 and have upgraded to Marshmallow 3 months before. In my initial days after up gradation it was fine for me. But in the last 2 months i am facing some Internal Storage issue. As the phone has 16 GB internal usage, in that 3.21Gb will be used for Android OS, where as the remaining 12.79GB we can use it.
  My issue here is if i go to settings and click on Storage, i can able to see the allocation for Android OS - 3.21GB & Internal Storage - 12.79GB as expected. But if i clicked on Internal Storage it opens a new window where i should get the details for those Internal Storage of 12.79GB. If i clicked on that Internal Storage, i can able to see it as around 7.2GB used (my actual usage) out of 12.79GB. But i could not get the details for those 7.2GB exactly, as i can able to see the details for only 4.4GB.
  I could not find in the allocation details for the remaining data of around 3 GB. I was able to get those details exactly before 1 month.
  Now i am facing this Internal Storage details mismatch.

  Could you please let me know what is the issue here as its taking around 3GB which is hard to digest I am facing this issue from past 1 month. Please let me know how to resolve this.
  Also let me know in case of any other details required.

  • It could be used for some temp files and log files.

    Also, if you are using file manager apps, some may use recycle bin to hold deleted files.

      I had one File Manager App and un installed it now, even after that also i have the same issue. Could not get the details for the missing 3GB data.
      Also i have cleared all the Temp & Log files, but still not able to get the missing 3GB data.

        I took the back p using ES File Explorer App only, it have the option to back up all the APPS and i took it with that App. Later after Factory resetting, i had re installed from the back up which i took.
        Again the same issue of 3GB exists. Not sure as i had installed from the same APP..
        Will it cause this issue or should i go uninstall all the Apps and should install it from Play store freshly?

        • As mentioned, I have no idea on the missing storage. It can be caused by some apps. That's the reason why I recommend you to reinstall from play store, not local backupsb after factory data reset. Some apps may allow you to backup their own app data.

        • Not sure. But how did you do the backup and reinstall, Helium or Titian?

          Anyway, if I were you, after I resetting, I would reinstall a few apps from play store and check the storage to see whether the issue is caused by temp/dump files of some apps.

          Anyway, you can try to use es file explorer to analysis the storage usage.

        1. Will my Marshmallow OS be reverted to Kitkat OS?
        2. Also if i move all my installed APPs to SD card and do the factory reset, can i move back those Apps to internal storage after factory reset?

        • 1. No, you will be on Marshmallow. Actually, there are no easy ways to revert back in Android.
          2. No, you cannot. You should reinstall apps from play store. Some apps offer backup their own data and restore them. Some may not. Some may not allow you to use backup at all. Anyway, you need additional tools and apps to backup apps.

        I have rebooted and checked again still the issue persists.
        Also i have installed CCleaner and analysed but no luck.
        Also i have moved all my Gallery items to SD Card and i have only APPs in my mobile Internal Storage.
        Still that 3GB data mismatch issue exists.
        Could you please provide me a solution to get rid of this issue.

        • No idea. It's possibly used by some corrupted files.

          Very rarely, some log files may be not rotated properly. Even more rarely, memory dump files(due to phone crash or crash of some apps) are not listed.

          Anyway, if it's convenient, you can try to backup the phone, factory data reset the phone, wipe data, then set up the phone again.

      • Not sure. Sometimes, the cache and temp files may be not counted properly.

        Did you try to reboot the phone and check again?

  • It is for Chromecast, not for Miracast. You need Chromecast dongle to use screencast.

  I have been taken marshmallow update and everything was going smooth.But for the past 3 weeks my device is getting heated while charging as well while using in wifi..I have tried to use 500mah charger and heating issue while charging is resolved..But if use my phone with wifi on,its temperature crosses around 40 degree Celsius with in 5 minutes. I have removed some apps,done wiping cache partition still it exists.used some cooler apps for cpu..Only thing left is a factory reset.

  So guys,do you have any suggestion before doing reset, any thing i can try to figure it out the culprit?

  • How did you measure the temperature?

    Normally, you should not worry about temperature unless your battery life is affected significantly. The phone has its own overheating protection mechanisms.

• I have a moto G 3rd Edition with Marshmallow, when I pair with my car via bluetooth the sound from the caller is garbled. Any thoughts? I have repaired and soft reset a couple of times.

  • I updated to MM 6.0.1 quite a few months back. My phone started behaving weirdly that very second. The small notifications that we get on the top right corner of the phone, like battery, wifi symbols etc....started to overlap and had one icon over the other. Been living with that since a long time. Since the last few days, the problems have worsened.

    The notifications pull down menu and the quick settings pull down, just disappeared. My phone also started opening without a password, and the home button is not working. Incoming calls have completely stopped. I tried to do a backup and then do a factory reset. But my computer isn't reading the phone, even though all the drivers and device manager is on my computer. How do I take a backup of SMS's, pictures, contacts, music, videos, whatsapp, notes, etc ?

    • It seems you have to reset the phone.

      For the USB connection, you have to access notification to set the USB option as MTP. The default is charging only. You may refer to this guide on USB options in Android Marshmallow.

      For your case, as you cannot access the notifications, you can still enable MTP in Settings --developer options --Select USB configuration, tap Charging only, then tap MTP. Of course, you need make sure Motorola device manager has been installed properly on the PC. To enable developer options, you may follow this guide.

      For photos and videos, you can backup them automatically with Google Photos app (which was pre-installed on the phone already).

      For contacts, you can sync them with your Google account.

      For Notes, it depends on the app you are using. Google Keep notes are automatically synced to cloud.

      For music or other files, you can copy them to SD card or to PC or to Google Drive.

      For SMS, you can use this SMS backup app. Copy the backup files to a safe place. You can later restore them.

      Anyway, make sure you have everything before resetting.

  • Unfortunately, there are no audio quality settings for this. Do you have problems with other Bluetooth devices?

    • My car is the only blue tooth I am using and it works fine with my old Blackberry. Now the calls connect but revert from the car back to the phone. Something that never happened with my BB. I have looked at a couple of android forums and it seems this is a common problem with car bluetooth and the new Marshmallow update. I guess I need to wait for a fix?

      • Not sure about the issue. Sometimes, it is due to the car Bluetooth system. Many car manufacturers do not follow the standard, and try to add something special. Android, as I know, follows the Bluetooth standard carefully.

        Marshmallow did introduce some new Bluetooth stacks. But if the old system followed the standard, there should be no issues.

        Anyway, I am not optimistic on any fixes in Android side for such issues.

  • I have the same problems with moto g2014. Did you manage to get rid of this problem? If yes, how?

    • Did you try to copy the mps file into the Ringtones folder (or Music) folder?

  • What's the available internal storage? Anyway you can try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps.

      • I seem to have the same issues as the two of you, but then with my Motorola Moto E2. When I make/get a call, I can't hear the other party, but they can hear me. This is only resolvable when putting them on speaker or using the headsed.

        This is clearly impractical when receaving a call when you don't have your headset with you and you can't put someone on speaker due to people around you.

        This problem also occurs when trying to call from whatsapp, so not only with the normal calling app.

        I hope someone can help me fix this, otherwise I will probably have to use the warranty on the phone and send it back.

        • You should send the phone back if it's possible.

  • Did you try VLC player? When playing music, you then adjust volume.

    Anyway, if the problem persists, you may have to back up the phone and then try a factory data reset.

  • If you are using two sim cards, you can try it with one sim card only.

• I don't remember if I had the problem immediately after update to version 6, but now when updating applications via play store, my device sometimes hung (black screen) or reboot while doing the installation. If I continue to use the smartphone, apparently it first becomes very slow and then reboot. The reboot is also very slow at that moment. After reboot most of the time the application that was updating before the reboot is updated but not always. Updated because it doesn't appear on the apps to be updated.
  So far i doesn't seems to be one application in particular (to be confirmed). I think it depends of the size of the application, that the problem comes with large applications, I will confirm later. For info I'm using the SD as internal storage and all my application are on it.

  • High quality and high speed of SD card are important when using SD card as internal storage.

• Roughly two months ago I bought a SanDisk Ultra Class 10 32GB micro-SD card for my Motorola Moto G 3 (2015) phone. On initial use of the card I formatted it as internal storage, not portable. In the last month it has been causing increasingly difficult issues - initially it would suddenly lose recognition of the card being in the phone and as such I believed that it must be minor bumps of the phone moving the card out of place just slightly. So I would take it out and put it back in or just restart the phone and eventually (within 10 or so seconds) it would re-recognise it and everything go back to normal. However, it has got to the point where the phone won’t recognise it, even with repeated attempts of turning the phone off, taking the card out, rebooting, shutting down again, placing the card in and rebooting (which worked a week ago), which no longer solves the issue. When I turn power on with the card in and go into storage settings now it comes up with the message “SanDisk SD card… Checking…” before after roughly a minute returning to the message “SanDisk SD card… Not inserted”. It seems the only options left here is to forget/reset the card on the phone or reformat with FAT32 on my PC which would erase all saved data that was on it, and not even be guaranteed to work after that. This leaves me with the further issue that the data is inaccessible on any other device so seems essentially irretrievable. A range of apps such as camera, gallery, downloads as well as other non-necessary but apps I use constantly will not start up without this card as important app data appears to be saved on the card. Does this mean if I forgot the card then I would lose these functions from the phone? I have read that the recent system update (Marshmallow) may have been central to or contributed to this issue, which I installed as soon as I was notified that an update available. The phone says it is completely up to date still, and I have not tried restoring to older/factory versions as I don’t want to mess with things and not be able to fix these issues. I’m afraid this problem will prevent restoring my data containing important files, prevent camera and other key functions from working again on my phone and mean the SD card which I spent considerable money on won’t work properly. Also, I have read some forums online with people stating that there is a certain compatibility issue with the class 10 card and Moto G 3 phone, although I do not understand this well? I must note the card is in pristine condition and the phone is less than 6 months old and as such am 99% certain that this is a phone software issue but have no understanding or idea how or why it has occurred and how to solve it, if there is a way. It appears I am not the only one experiencing such difficulties and it is ridiculous that this has happened in the first place. Any suggestions on how to approach this issue would be appreciated.   • Unfortunately, using SD card as internal storage is a new feature. It depends on many factors. You need backup the phone frequently when using SD card as internal storage.

  • well you have to fo a hard reste by using fastboot (if u don't know how find it in internet)

  • For pictures, you can sync to Google through photos app. You can also copy them to SD card.

    For the navigation button issues, you probably have to backup the phone and try a factory data reset.

      • Nobody can guarantee the real world performance of SD card. But overall, class 10 should perform better than class 4 one.

  • You should not use clean master or similar apps. They make the situation worse.

    When you mentioned "overheating", does the phone reboot itself or slow down? If not, don't worry about the temperature.

• I am absolutely not smartphone savvy but since the marshmellow update (6.0 ? • Since updating my moto g 3rd gen to Marshmallow the phone has been running very slowly. I finally got fedup and followed the advise to clear clear cache partition. After which the speed in processing improved. Then the next day I noticed that

  • 1. Did you try other camera apps? For example, Google camera. You can you try to clear cache and clear data for camera app.

    2. Not sure. Are you using WiFi or mobile data?

    • Yes I tried downloading other camera apps, the first one kept crashing when I tried to take a picture. I uninstalled and tried installing another camera app but the installation was unsuccessful.

      I tried clearing the cache via 1. settings > apps > force stop 2. settings storage and USB >internal storage > apps > camera > clear cache .... no response!

        Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. I think there is more to the problems I'm having with my phone. So I have not been able to install Google camera. I have noticed over the past 2.5 weeks and more that the phone rectifies the problems without my intervention. I am suddenly able to use the phone's original installed camera app, download images and audio from whatsapp and upload pictures. Then after some hours (I think max 6 hours) the problem starts for about 3 or 4 days, then I it self resolves.... and the cycle goes on. :(

• Since I upgraded my Moto G3 to Marshmallow my SD micro card 32 gb used as internal storage was crashing from time to time, so that I could not access my files and my pictures were vanished. But everytime I switched the mobile off and then on it was working again. And recently I went all the way with my procedure and the files won't come back. I can not access my storage anymore, even though I switched my Motorola on and off many times, including de-charging it and taking the card in and out. I could hard-reset the card and then maybe access it as empty storage, but I want to get my unique pictures first!

    If the internal storage crashes often, you probably should try a better SD card.

    Unfortunately, if the SD card is used as internal storage, only the phone can read the SD card. If you reset the phone, the SD card cannot be read by any devices unless you format it.

• I am trying to turn off network switch using marshmallow, however this option doesnt seem to exist anymore.. How can i do this?

  • Smart network switch is a carrier (e.g., at&t) or vendor (e.g.,Samsung) feature. It's not an Android feature. I don't think Moto devices have this.

• So I had read about some problems with the marshmallow update before and decided to make the upgrade thinking that the Wipe cache/partition would solve the problems reported; it didn't help. Problems reported included apps running very slowly, which I also experienced.I tried to downgrade twice, but that failed every time. What did help was moving files from my SD to my internal storage. Apps that were slow before now worked fine. I thought it was a whim so I moved them back to the SD card and they slowed down again. So moving to internal storage allows everything to work all fine and great now. No problems to report, except maybe battery life. It's a new phone so I am not sure if it was like this before, but it charges quickly well so I am ok for now. I hope this can help someone.

• I have one problem that I haven't found anyone else having. Ever since the update when playing audio it just randomly stops. It doesn't matter which app I play it from, neither is there a difference for headphones or speakers. There doesn't seem to be a regularity with the stops, I can be listening to something for 5 minutes before it stops or 30 minutes. Then sometimes I just have to press the play button again on the homescreen, sometimes I have to unlock the phone and go back to the app.
  It has never happened before the update but now it's really just annoying and I haven't figured out any way to make it stop.
  I would really appreciate any help or guesses as to what I could do, thanks!

  • Did you install any task manager apps or battery saving apps?

    • No, I have never downloaded any of that, it only started happening after the update, I had installed no new apps whatsoever.

      • Not sure. Did you try it in safe mode? Also try to turn off battery saving if enabled.

    • I have the same problem this morning, after the 32G card working fine for 7 months. “SanDisk SD card Not inserted”

      • You can try to power off the phone, reinsert the SD card, then power on to see whether the SD card is detected.

    • I'm having the same problem. Yesterday everything was fine until I managed somehow to get my SIM card PUK'd meaning locked. So I had to call the service provider to get the PIN to unlock it. Which I did and it was unlocked. Afterwards everything was work fine, until this morning when I went to use it to listen to an Audible book the app was gone and when I went to look at storage it told me that the "SD card is "not inserted". When I updated to Android 6.0 I made the SD card part of internal memory(32Gig). Never had any problems till today. Can anyone help me, please?

      PS When I remove then put it back in it tells me "SD card Checking" after its run it tells me "Not inserted". I've done it with power off n on and get the same message and it doesn't give me a option to mount/unmount SD card.

      • It seems the SD card is not detected. This usually is caused by the connector or a dead SD card.

  I just bought Moto G+ gen4 in India, I see two issues:
  1) USB copy is very slow - copying 100MB of small files takes 50min
  2) while the USB is connected to Laptop, suddenly the all the screens keep toggling, i mean all background programs comes and goes like pressing "Windows+Tab" key on the laptop.

  • 1. are you using USB OTG? or PC? from or to the phone? Anyway, you should try to copy a few files in one batch.
    2. it can be triggered by some buggy apps. Rebooting the phone, then trying again should solve the issue.

  • 1. you need check files with a file explorer.

    2. you should NEVER install such apps at all. You should not get apps from other sources either.

    3. there are many in play store. it depends in your needs.

    4. copy one or two files to test. Also, try VLC for Android to test files you copied.

  Similar to some people here I am faced with the problems that my MotoG 3gen 4G is no longer functioning properly with my BlueTooth carkit after the upgrade to Android 6.

  To answer one of the questions, yes I have tried with multiple devices and to my dismay the problem is persistent with all other devices.

  Incoming calls seems to work fine in most of the cases, outgoing calls only once or twice after I reboot the phone. And after that the call control is working properly via the Carkit but the audio is only going via the phones earpiece.

  Do you have any suggestions that I could try to fix this problem?

Battery drains very rapidly but it takes so long time to charge my phone. portable charger is needed everywhere :( and im sick of this. My phone's brightness is always low.     From couple of weeks, my moto g2 is not detecting the sim card in either of the slots.
    Initially, a restart would solve the problem, later re-insert SIM card or exchange between the slots would solve..later on these steps haven't solved the problem. but , by luck once or twice it would detect by trying different combinations of restart/re-insert SIM steps. Suddenly, it stops detecting.
    Google search showed some results with similar problems for other users where they are not able to tell the cause but mostly deciding that it is hard ware problem.

    Can you please help me resolve this problem?

    • Do you have the problem if you use only one sim card?

      • I updated my new Moto G turbo and it stopped reading SIM CARD. It was impossible to solve and clasified as a hardware problem.

        My operator gave me a new phone (warranty).
        I will not update it for a while...

        • But sure about such a problem. What did you get in status bar and in settings - about phone - status - sim status, when you mentioned it stopped reading the sim card?

      • I am using only one SIM card. both slots same problem and slot 2 is little better

        • When the SIM card is not detected, you can go to sim settings, and specify the carrier network to see whether it works.

          Of course, you may check the SIM card slot in the service center to see whether it's physically damaged.

          You should power off the phone when removing it inserting sim card.

  • You need see battery usage details....

    You can try to clear cache partition to seer whether it helps.

    Longer charging time usually means aging battery.

• I have a Moto E and have recently been upgraded to Marshmallow. Now I am getting no ring tone or notification tones at all. If I connect headphone then I can hear the ring tone. If I make a call I can hear the other person through the speaker . I have checked all the settings which may cause this problem e.g. Airplane mode, Silent mode, App notification settings etc but nothing helps. I see many other people are having a similar problem. Any ideas please as my phone is now virtually useless, and please don't suggest full reset as I know from other people's experience it does not work

  • Hi Eric, had the same problem and have found solution that avoids factory reset! Switch to guest user then switch back and all should be restored :) good luck!

      • it depends on what you want to backup. For photos, you can automatically back up them to Google drive through Google Photos. Other files can be copied to Google drive manually.

• My Moto G2 has started playing up since the upgrade. The log in screen has just disappeared to when you turn it on it goes to the home page. The home page button doesn't work and the camera sometimes just shows a black screen. The upload to google drive of photos only seems to work when the battery is fully charged. All a bit wonky. Any ideas please? Many thanks.

  • If home button does not work, you should back up the phone and try to reset the phone.

      • You need backup all your files and data. Factory data reset will remove all your data and files. You cannot undo it or recover any files.

        It is not necessary to remove the SD card. But it is recommended to format the SD card after factory data reset. You should backup your files on the SD card as well. You may follow this guide on decide whether you want to sue SD card portable storage or internal storage.

        You should also read this guide before resetting the phone.

        To reset Moto G, go to Settings--backup and reset--factory data reset.

• Since updarding to marshmallow by moto g has become unbearably slow. It takes ages to switch between apps and the touch screen is lagging for as long as 15 seconds at times when typing. Some webpages are also not loading at all while others will. I also have a notice saying that my storage space is running out, despite the fact that I have deleted the majority of my pictures and apps with no change. It also doesn't recognise any of my photos when connected to the computer except screenshots. I have cleared the cache partition but still there is no change!!!
  I have lots of photos that I have not been able to back up due and so don't want to do a factory reset and lose all my photos.

  • Can you view photos on the phone? You can install a file explorer to manage files on the phone.

    The slowness can be caused insufficient internal storage.

      Yes I can see the images on the phone. As to the slowness each time I delete things no extra space appears int he settings. Yesterday I deleted around 700 photos and this was not even registered by the phone. When I plugged it in to the computer both before and after deleting things it said I had 0 space available out of the 5 or so GB in the internal storage.

      • If you can view photos, you can always check the details and find the exact location. You can then navigate to the folder on the PC.

        Are you using a SD card? Are you using it as portable storage or internal storage>

          I am using my SD card as portable storage. I have opened all of the flowers that appear when I connect my phone to the computer but they are all empty, except for the screen shots. The photos are also on the SD card when I search on the phone, but again when I open all the folders when it is connected To the computer the folders are empty.

        • After updating to Marshmallow, even you use the SD card as portable storage, you need format the SD card once.

          When connecting the phone to the PC, you need change USB option to MTP as shown in this guide.

          Anyway, as the SD card is set as portable storage, you can always use the SD card with a SD card reader or on other devices to check files.

      • Is it a new SD card? What's the capacity?

        For sim card issue, it's probably a separate problem. You need check SIM status when it shows emergency calls only.

  • If you use the micro SD card as internal storage, you should let the system manage files.

    Anyway, you can go to Settings-- Apps, tap the app, tap Storage, under storage used, you can find CHANGE button (if the app can be manually moved to SD card). Change button will not appear if it is not movable by user.

• Before the Marshmallow update I was able to simply connect my new Moto G3 to my laptop and immediatey transfer photos or musc files. Now I have to drag down the USB connection options on my phone screen and specify "transfer files" before it will work. And even then, it doesn't save the option choice. Every time I disconnect from the laptop and then connect again I have to go through the option process again. Why would they design it like this??? Is there any way for me to go back to the old Lollipop and wipe off the update to Marshmallow? I've never owned a smart phone before so I'm not savvy about these things. Also, after this bad experience, what can happen if I no longer accept updates?

  • This is the default option on Android Marshmallow. There is no easy to make your selection persistent currently. In developer options, there is an option to use MTP as default. But it's also not persistent. It will change to default after a reboot.

• New Moto G3 running Android 5.1 - everything fine. Upgraded to Android 6.0 now have have no ringtones. Did factory reset hoping that android 5.1 would return - no luck. Still have the same problem. Thoughts before I chuck this phone??? Haven't even got to the point of checking out the rest of the apps, etc.

  • What do you mean no ringtones? What did you get when you try to set ringtones?

    • No tones; Settings/Sound & Notification - all volumes at max, Phone Ringtone - pick any from list - no tone! Default Ringtone - pick from list - no tone!

        • this is a brand new phone - no apps, contacts, etc. The Ringtone was selected from the Settings/Sounds & Notifications screen. No warning/error msg.

        • I can select any of the ringtones and the result is the same - no sample ring. If I then call the phone, there is no "ringing" on the phone just the msg displayed for an incoming call.

• I faced a problem with my Moto G.

  It updated automatically yesterday. It re-started and now I faced with some problems.

  1. The most important is I lost my incoming calls. everybody who want calls my face with busy line (something like auto reject). So I am not accessible to anybody with busy beep.

  2. I lost my drop down short cut at the top of the screen. where that I could do everything on my quick setting such as WiFi on/of, Bluetooth, Torch, etc.. I also lost access to my account from this side.

  3. The home icon, in the middle of bottom of screen does not work. two other touch button (back and ram sorting) is work but not about "Home" touch button.

  I would be appreciate if you answer these question to make my phone usable.

    • No easy solution. You can try to enable developer options, then enable MTP. This may work, but not always.

      Please note, you can still access Settings through Settings app.

      • Hi simon, I am facing the same issues as the above people. No notifications, quick access not working, home button not working, incoming call getting rejected and lots of other issues. When i try to enable developer settings and tap build number multiple number of times, nothing happens. No matter how much i try, i am not able to enable developer settings. USB debugging is not working of course and computer won't recognise the phone, not even in mtp mode. Since quicksettings/notification pulldown is not working, there is no way to change it to MTP mode.
        Further, when i go to backup and reset in settings, i see that that the reset option is grayed out. When i try to go to recoveryto hard reset, it won't go to the recovery, just stays on that stupid 'no input' screen despite pressing power and volume up key together. I am out of options and since the usb debugging is not working i dunno what more i can do to salvage the phone! Please help me if you can...

        • As mentioned in previous discussions, missing notification panel (and malfunction of home buttons) is very likely caused interrupted system update.

          You probably have to factory reset the phone in recovery mode. You can follow this guide to reboot the phone into recovery mode (instead of choosing clearing cache partition, you can choose factory reset).

          If you cannot backup files into PC, you can try to backup to cloud (Google drive) or to a new micro SD card.

  • I don't think the phone updates itself. You need tap the install button.

    Anyway, for these problems, you probably should try to backup the phone and then try a factory data reset.

  I have problem with my SDCard. Second one. First I have 32GB Kingstone SD card. Now I use 16GB SanDisk. When I formatted it as an internal storage, everything works perfect but after a few weeks it say that there is no SDCard and I should reinsert it. When I reboot my phone it work for about 5 - 10 minutes then the notification appears and I cannot use my SDCard. To solve it I need to reformat my SDCard and it works for another few weeks. I thougt that this is issue with Kingstone card so I changed it to SanDisk. It works the same. The problem start when I upgrade my Motorola G2 (XT1072) to Marshmallow. Can I fix this problem somehow?

  • Same problem here, tried with different cards of different brands and it keeps happening.
    Also made a factory restore, that seemed to solve the problem (it worked fine for a longer period of time), but again the same problem...

    Did you find any solution?

  • Did you check whether the SD card slot is loose? You can visit local service center to check the slot.

    • I only use that slot couple of times - to insert first card, then to chceck if reisert solve the problem and then to insert new card. I never take it out from there and my Motorola has 1 year. It was all fine at Android 5.0. But if you say that this is a common problem and this should work fine then I will check it. Thanks!

      • As I know, there are no known software issues regarding micro SD card in the Android Marshmallow update for Moto G. It sounds like connector/slot issue. But nobody can confirm it without checking the phone.

• Another thing I noticed some are asking about happened to me as well: I want to access the phone via USB to copy files to the External SD Card, and I cannot do it. I have chosen MTP and I can see the internal SD card just fine, with all its contents. The External SD Card also appears in Explorer, but it will not display its contents or allow me to write there.

  I am aware that there is an option to "merge" the External Card with the internal one so that they work like one, but I have chosen not to do that when offered the choice. Is my External card already "locked" with this phone exclusively since the upgrade anyway? Thanks again.

  • If you choose to use the SD card as portable storage, you should also format it once after the Marshmallow update. After formatting it, you can see it on PC. Backup the data on the SD card before formatting.

    • It is not as convenient, but I take my SD card out and read it with a card reader

• My MotoG2 seems to be having problems waking up after I upgraded to Marshmallow. It will work perfectly for days but then it will stop responding to the power button to wake up, requiring a soft reset. May this be a problem with the Doze mode?

  • Not sure about this issue. Did you install any task manager/antivirus/battery saving apps?

    When you cannot wake up it, you can try to call the number to see whether it rings.

• I have a 3rd gen that is under 2 months old and am running andorid marshmellow. All of a sudden my phone will not lock even are a hard reset. I am unable to access the quick menu and the home button will not work. It says that it is registering and also i am unable to recieve any notifications at this time. Any help would be very helpful.

  • If factory data reset doesn't solve the problem, you have to visit local Motorola service center. It seems the problem is due to interrupted Marshmallow update. But factory data reset should solve the issue due to interrupted update.

  I have the moto G 3rd gen dual sim phone. I am unable to connect to T-Mobile's 3G or 4G/H/LTE network in the US. The phone only connects to 2G (Edge). I have reset all the APNs to T-Mobile's default. I have verified that if I swap out my sim card and put it into other phones, I get 3G or 4G/H/LTE signals.   • Is the phone compatible with T-Mobile network? Most dual SIM models are for overseas market. The 4G band is probably different.

    Anyway, you can test it with single SIM card. If you still cannot get 3G connection, you can visit T-mobile service center ans ask them to check whether the phone is compatible.

• After updating my moto e 2nd gen to marshmallow my internet speed has decreased a lot. I can teven WhatsApp messages . I am using the same data packs but suddenly after the update the connection is very poor. Please help .

  • The connection speed may always change depending on network signal and congestion. Your can check with your service provider whether the APN is correct.

    Also when you feel the connection is slow, what icon can you see in status bar (h, h+ or 3g or something else). You can take a screenshot and share it in our Facebook page.

    You can also consider to clear cache position to see whether it helps.

  • If you provide details, other member can help you better. You need tell us what you got. It's hard to guess what the problem is based "not working".

    For connection to PC, after connecting the logins to the PC, check notifications on the phone, change USB option to MTP. The default is charging only.

• Moto G2: After update the phone is very slow. Has to close apps to make it work. Apps crash and drain battery. Sometimes the phone crash during night (charging). Restart of phone takes 10 min. Had no problems before update to Android 6.

  • i do have similar problems with my moto g2 (upgraded to marshmallow)
    Battery drains up in just 5-6 hours even when it is idle.
    Additionally, since yesterday internal storage's download data is missing.

    • Have the same problem and I think it is to do with the memory card. If the memory card is removed the phone works perfectly. After you put in a new card it takes a few days before the problem starts all over again.

    • First, you should NOT install such cleaning apps/ battery saving apps. They just make the situation worse.

      When you feel you have battery issues, check the battery usage details. You can also try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps.

• After uptate tof Moto G2 to MM my sound has deteriorated - in phone, speakers and with headphones, distorted as if too loud even on very low settings. I have tried many suggestions (sound 'effects', equaliser etc. but no difference. Basically the phone is unuseable.
  Very dissapointing - until update had good sound for music etc. now unbearable.

  • Probably the sound settings were messed up. You can backup the phone and try a factory data reset. Do not change settings in sound effects after resetting.

    You may also clear cache and clear data for the apps that don't get GPS info.

      I did a factory reset and created a new google profile to start from scratch.
      Result: same issue.
      My guess is there's something wrong with new API version and the way apps try to get their location. Apps that force the gps work ok, others that relies on the system don't get an accurate position. It seems the system doesn't deal correctly the gps location...

      • I am not aware of such an issue. You may check with local service center to check the phone.

• Hi. Coming back to my GPS problem on my MotoG. All the location permissions for al the programs are enabled.On Google maps when I tap current position the map just rotate slowly around, and it doesn't come up with the small blue dot. It just give a grey little circle. I can see the the gps indication icon comes on in the top status bar of the phone when I try to use my gps programs.
  My son also upgraded his MotoG to MM and the same happened to his phone. So I think there must be a bug in the MM upgrade regarding the GPS.
  I would appreciate it if there is a fix to this problem because I use my gps daily on my farm.

  • Not sure about any bugs on GPS in Marshmallow update.

    As you already tried factory data reset, you probably have to visit the service center to check the phone.

• I have a Moto G second generation. I update to Marshmellow. At that time I had a old 16BG slow SD card. But I could update apps and load new ones. As per instructions I ordered a SanDisk Extreme microSDHC UHS-1 card so I could make it part of my internal storage which I did following the instructions. But for some reason now I can not load app updates or new app because it keeps saying my device does not have sufficient storage. I have some space left as I have used 4.88 of 5.5 GB of internal stoarge but it does not seems to be using the SD card as internal storage. I reformatted it and tried again but same results.

  • What's the output of settings - storage?

• Since I upgraded my MotoG 2nd from Lolipop to Marshmallow my GPS cannot find any Gps location.
  None of the programs that I always use like Google maps is working. I did a factory reset as well as a clear cache.
  I can put it in High accuracy mode or any other mode it will not get a satellite fix. The only program that seems to work is
  GPS Status.

  • Did you happen to disable location permissions? Go to settings - apps, tap gear button near top right, tap app permissions, tap locations to see whether the permission is removed for various apps.

    Also, on Google maps, what error did you get if you tap current location button?

  • What method are you using? What error did you get? Did you try a file explorer?

• Pauses included in Contact Telephone Numbers Not Recognised since upgrade to Android 6

  I raised this issue before and it is recognised as a problem. If the number, including a pause is entered into the dialler directly there is no problem. The problem arises when calling the number from Contacts when only the numbers before the pause are dialled. I tried to download a new Phone dialler but it seems to be for Android 5. Is it possible to update the dialler that came with the phone or is it just a question of waiting for Motorola to issue an update. I assume they are aware of the problem? Thanks for any feedback.

  • I guess you have to wait. You cannot update the system dialer.

  Hope you can help me. I have a Moto G 2nd generation. I updated to marshmallow a few weeks ago and formatted my sd card to be used as storage. I moved a lot of apps over onto the sd card which was great, it freed up space and improved performance. But I notice now that whenever I update an app it automatically moves it back onto the internal phone storage.

  I can't move some of the apps back onto the sd card now, I get an error message saying 'couldn't move app, internal error'. I was able to move my Instagram and buffer app back onto the card but not Twitter or Facebook and there's plenty of room on the sd card.

  • If you set micro SD card as internal storage, you should NOT move apps or files. The system can do a better job to decide where to save files considering performamce and available internal storage.

    • Hi Simon, sorry not very techy here but I thought the whole idea of having the extra storage was so you could move apps over to save space on the phone and make it run better? You the option in settings to move certain apps over which I did but they ended up back on internal storage after I updated any of them in the play store. Does the phone just choose what can be moved itself then?? :(

      • If you format the sd card as internal storage, you should let the system to manage all files. And you can just relax.

        The system is smart enough to find the best storage strategies. It will adjust its storage based on available phone storage and file types.

        • As confirmed by one user, if your phone storage is already close to full before adding the SD card as internal storage, you can try to backup the phone and try a factory reset.

• I have the Moto G2 and ever since I updated the OS to 6.0 I no longer am able to listen to media through my Bluetooth. I've tried the options in settings and I'm not given an option to connect my Bluetooth to the media, just phone aduio and contact share. Lollipop was so much better, wish I hadn't upgrade to marshmallow.

  • Can you pair the Bluetooth device with the phone? By default, it is not necessary to do settings.

• Hi, have been using moto g3 from over 6 months..after recent update I have weird problem. Touch sensitivity have become erratic...as in when I try to scroll, it opens off some thing on the screen. For eg..in contacts fav screen, if I try to scroll...it dials off the number I have pointed on. Its.more of annoying when I am browsing or using fb app...unnecessary topics opens unintentionally.

• Hi. 2 days ago I recently updated from Lollipop to Andriod 6 Marshmellow on my Moto G Gen 2 dual sim phone. I believe there are a few gliches with the upgrade. Mine is only one of my Sims has data allowance so normally I would turn "mobile data" to on when I need it from that respective sim. Now when I do this, the H on the notification bar is only displayed for about 1 second before it disappears hence not being able to access the internet. I have tried safe mode and also have done the clear cache parition. Does anyone have any advice please? Thank you.

  • What happens if you use one SIM card only?

      • You need check dual sim settings. You need set one for mobile data. Only one sim card can connect to 3G network.

        If you get problems, check SIM card status in settings - about phone - status- SIM status.

      • Even I am having this issue. Some times the signal shows with ! mark. I suspect that the restriction for Data on single SIM is not properly applying while I have dual SIM in place.

        • ! usually indicates some mobile signal or connection problem. It should disappear automatically once network is good.

Since then I have done 3 factory resets, and for a few days can make phone calls, i can talk on the phone, but after few days it stops working again and can't talk and hear other person without a headset.

• Previously I was able to transfer files, photos, music, etc., between my Moto G 3rd generation and my computer but now when I connect the phone to the computer and go to file explorer, a message says "This folder is empty". This is obviously an error as I have a lot on the phone. Also it shows almost nothing on the SD card, although I stored a lot of music on there. I have no idea whether the Marshmallow update is the cause, or whether the phone itself is defective?

  • Check notification on the phone after it is connected to the PC. You need change USB setting to MTP. In most regions, the default is charging only.

• Sincé upgrading my Moto G to Android 6 the pauses (commas) included in phone numbers are not recognised. I use an Access Number for cheaper calls to the UK from Spain. The access number needs to be followed by a pause before dialling the contacts number. Now only the access number is called and I have to add the contacts number manually - a pain with my memory! Any advice gratefully received. I have not noticed any other problems following the upgrade, at least in the way I use my first Smartphone.

  • As I know there are always recognized. You can test it in dialer. Type the access number, then tap menu key (3 vertical dots in the same line) in left side, tap add 2 seconds pause, then continue the number.

    You can also edit number in contacts. When you need add pause, tap *# key in the number input keypad, then you can find pause option, or type , directly.

    • Thanks Simon. I have tested entering a number direct into the dialer including the pause and it works fine. The problem arises when I use my Contacts to dial the number and the dialing stops at the pause and goes no further. I have tried editing the contacts and re-entering a number but the problem remains.I have tried entering a totally new contact including the access code and pause and still the problema remains. Any suggestions?

      Sorry if you have already replied - there seems to be an issue with viewing my initial reply - I am using a PC? In reply to your question on how the dialler is treating the pause - the only numbers displayed on the dialler are those of the access number which I get through to and are then asked to dial the number I want.

      • Not sure. I just tested it and it seems I also got the same problem when dialing from contacts.

    • Thanks Simon. If I enter the entire number manually using the dialler and adding the pause - no problems. If I use my contacts the problem is there. I have tried removing and replacing the contact from scratch but still the problem occurs - strange.

• Hi there! I have a problem with my dialer icon. When my homescreen is turned on and I have an incoming call, tapping on the dialer icon (stock) will only get me to a second screen where I have to tap the option of going back to the active call. After doing that, it finally takes me to a third screen where I can actually tap a phone icon to answer the call.
  Secondly, someone told me that, when receiving a call with homescreen turned on, there should be a notification of this in the notification bar, but there's nothing there.
  Is this all normal? I find it very inconvenient to take three steps before the call can be answered.

  • You should swipe (or drag), not tap the icon as indicated to accept call or reject calls.

    you should get a missed call notification if you do not pick up the phone.

    When you can on a call, you can tap home button to use other apps. In this case, you also have an icon until you end the call.

• The proximity Sensor is not working after i upgraded my moto g2 from lollipop to marshmallow. Is there any solution for this

  • You may just try to reboot the phone. Please note some screen protectors may block the proximity sensor.

• Installed marshmallow update for moto g2 one month back. Every thing was working fine. But from last one week I am not able to see any items in status bar.   • Did you try to reboot the phone?

    • Same thing happened to me. I reboot the device twice and still have this problem.

        if the factory reset option is grayed out, you can boot the phone into recovery mode to reset the phone. This guide shows you how to reboot Moto G into recovery mode. You can then reset the phone, instead of clearing cache partition.

  • Mobile data option is still there. In the quick settings panel, tap the mobile network signal, then you have the option to turn on/off mobile data.

    You can also turn on/off mobile data in Settings--Data usage.

  • Not sure. But did you finish the setup process after updating to Marshmallow? You need set it up once even you use it as portable storage.

  • if you placed a call or accept a call, it should exit silent mode.

    The slowness is probably due to other apps or settings.

  • Moto phones don't write to sim card. All contacts can sync with Google account and it's not necessary to save till sim card. Contacts in sim card can only save one number for one contact. And you cannot save email and other contact info.

    Anyway, you can export contacts to a file and import them into sim card in other phones if you really want to.

• I upgraded my Moto g 3Gen android version to marshmallow 6.0. but after that my camera shutter on/ off option is removed. so how I can recovered the same option?

  • You cannot get the option. In some regions, shutter sound option was removed in the Marshmallow update. Not sure Motorola will bring it back or not. In some regions, the option is still available.

• Single sim Moto g 2nd gen phone recently upgraded to MM and now following a reboot the sim looks OK for a few minutes and phone will receive calls, but after a few minutes the mobile signal is lost and sim shows as invalid. I have removed/reinserted the sim, obtained and inserted a new sim from my supplier, tried factory reset/restore, tried airplane mode followed by reboot. All resulted in same issue. Only when I first tried the new sim did the signal last for more than a few minutes, but even so it still eventually failed, and now fails within minutes of reboot. Any ideas? Do I need to do a clear cache if I have done a factory reset? Is there any point doing a factory reset and then taking the new phone option instead of a restore? I appreciate I will have to start from scratch taking this approach but if it will fix the issue I am happy to try it.

  • Check Settings--More--Cellular network--network operators, you can manually set your carrier's network as preferred.

    • All I did in the end was to set phone to airplane mode, power off, power on, airplane mode off, sim was ok for a few mins then went invalid, so powered off again and waited 12 hrs plus ( not sure if this length of time was significant), then turned on a nod the sim then worked for most of the day, but still went invalid eventually, so powered off and on again, and now the issue seems to be resolved. At no stage did I change settings other than the initial airplane mode bit. Weird! I have no idea what made the difference here.

  All Apps keeps on crashing let it be Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, Google App, Inbox by Gmail, Snapchat etc.
  Navigation from apps has slowed down and shown a BLACK screen. It has become very slow.
  I have around 5GB free in my internal memory, have done factory reset still the problem persists.
  I couldn't find any cure for this.

  • For battery usage, always check details in settings -battery.

    If factory data reset doesn't solve the issue, it's probably caused by some third party apps or some settings. After factory data reset, you should the phone before re-install apps or change settings.

  I am using Moto G2, updated Android version from 5.0.2 to 6.0 (Marshmallow). After upgrading 3G service is not running am getting 2G service in my phone. Earlier I thought that there was problem from sim card service provider and done manual settings 3-4 times. It's a dual sim phone so I tried with both the sim but it's not working in any of the sim.
  Also spoken to Motorola executive on phone, they asked me to do factory reset, done that as well but still 3G is not working.
  Kindly provide an solution for my problem ASAP Because it is really difficult to work on 2G service.

  • Did you try your Moto G2 with single SIM card? With single SIM card, if you still cannot get 3G, it could be due to signal issue (no 3G signal or 3G signal is too weak) or network issue. You need check with the service provider on such issues.

    After enabling mobile data, you can check SIM card status in Settings-- about phone--status--SIM status.

    • After Marshmallow update, 3G is not working in my Moto g2. I am using only one sim. When I set the preferred network to 3G, it is still showing E and it never changes. I tried the same SIM in another handset and it is working fine. I tried to move the SIM from slot1 to 2. But the problem persists. I have checked the SIM status as mentioned in previous comments and everything seems to be pretty normal. I see that several others faced the same issue. If anyone has solution, please suggest. Thanks in advance.

      • If the phone determines the 3G connection is not stable (too weak signal, over congested..), it wil automatically switch to 2G.

        Anyway, you may also check APN settings

• Recently my moto g 2nd generation got updated to marshmallow. I bought this phone whilst I was in the UK and was using just one sim. Y yesterday I put a data sim aswell which just works in sim 1and nit in sim 2. Now any sim works in sim 1 but sim 2 doesn't read any sim and keeps in saying NO SIM CARD. Alsobin the settings, I get no sim selection options at all!!? Just one sim appears and it does not allow me to change the settings ifbi want to change them as desired. The person am calling will hear me but I can't hear anything unless I use an earpiece. What's happening?   • I'm having the exact opposite problem. I can't make calls with a bluetooth headset. Callers can hear me but I can't hear anything through my bluetooth. Rebooting the phone fixes it temporarily but it comes back within a couple hours.

    • It could be due to the firmware of the bluetooth headset.

      Did you try other Bluetooth headsets?

• My Moto G2 Android OS is taking more battery than any other application after upgrading to Marshmallow. I have removed all auto sync option from apps and I am not keeping much applications also in my mobile. I charge my phone in the late evening to 100% and by morning it is reducing to 80% and battery consumption data says 15% is consumed by Android OS and remaining by Mobile stand by, screen etc. Why OS is taking so much of power and is there is any solution for this.

• I updated last week my moto g 2nd gen to the android 6.0 And Since about 2 days I saw a issue with the phone's gallery I saw my whole files duplicated and I don't know why this is happening I tried to format the micro sd and I did it and it didn't work the problem was still there and an intersting fact about this is that when I conect my phone to the pc I can see all my original files there are not duplicated ones but in my phone I see my files twice I tried everything to fix it and I couldn't fix it I turn off the google photos option cause I thought this was the app that was causing the problem but still same thing I haven't sought if same thing happens with music but so far I have seen this issue just in my gallery.   • When you see duplicated photos, you can tap the photo, then check the details to find exact location of the two files. Are there in the same location with same file name (unlikely).

    You can also try to reset Gallery app by clearing cache and clearing data in Settings --App -- Gallery.

      • Very likely, after updating to Marshmallow, you did not answer the question to set SD card as portable storage or internal storage.

        Are you using SD card as portable storage? If yes, power off the phone, remove the SD card, power on the phone, check the Gallery.

    • I did it but I can't find the location I just see the original files and the duplicated ones shows the location on where they are once I see it in details options on gallery but then I can't find it!       • Are the locations of duplicate files in the same location? Without seeing the details, it is hard to give suggestions.

        But personally, I would NOT recommend clean master. Google the company behind the app.

    • I cleaned gallery cache but it didn't work I still having same problem and there is something very strange with this problem is I deleted a picture from the duplicated carpet and when I tried to look the picture in the original file carpet I wasn't able to look it. it said that the picture I tried to look was no longer in my phone. Data only works OK if 1 SIM inserted, either slot 1 or 2. So a dual-SIM phone became a single-SIM phone. Changed APN no help, provider inserted the original APN. Before upgrade, no problem at all.   • When you use one SIM card, do you get 2G data or 3G data connection? Did you specify the SIM card correctly for the mobile data?

    • Simon, simple answer is YES, when using 1 SIM, the icon bar sometimes shows 3G sometimes shows H, in both cases, data works OK. APN correctly shows the provider's 3G network. Preferred network is set to 3G. But adding one more SIM, cannot see 3G or H in the icon bar, and the phone is not connected to data. APN and Preferred Network settings remain the same for the data SIM. The Voice SIM also has its APN setting correct.

      • When using two SIMs, you may check SIM status in Settings--about phone--status--SIM status.

• Whenever I reboot my Moto G3, it shows “Android is Starting, Optimizing app 1 of 1” and takes a long time to get into home screen. Could you please let me know why and provide me any solution ?

    It sounds like that the problem is caused by apps you installed. Did you install any ringtone apps? Or any file explorer apps? You can go to settings - apps, tap menu key, tap reset app preferences.

    In quick settings, you can also quickly toggle between priority only and do not disturb (total silence, priority only, alarms only)

  I'm preparing to back up my data to do a factory reset. My photos are stored on my sd card but I am unable to locate them when I connect my phone to my PC. I've tried changing the 'use usb for' to 'transfer files (MTP)' and 'Transfer photos (PTP)' but still cannot locate my photos.

  I have gone to SD settings on my phone and the following options appear:

  -Eject
  -Format
  -Format as internal
  -Move media

  I pressed 'move to media' and on the next page, the option is to move media to sd card which I do not want to do. I need to save all of my files to my computer so I can do a factory reset, but as mentioned I am unable to locate the pictures on my sd card via my pc.

  • On the phone, start gallery app, find the photo you want to know there location, tap and hold it. Then you can find the detailed info of the photo, including the folder it's in.

    For photos taken with camera, it should be under DCIM folder

      I have tried this previously. My photos are stored in /storage/DCIM/Camera

      When I connect my phone to my pc and go to internal storage on my pc, it says the DCIM folder is empty.

      When I go to the SD card folder on my pc, it shows that 24GB of 28GB is used, so my pictures are in there. When I click on it, it says 'this folder is empty.'

      • I have now fixed the CD card by removing it, rebooting phone, then rebooting again with it reinstalled. It is currently installed as 'portable' SD card. However my big problem remains the internal storage. When connected to the PC it only shows photos taken after upgrade to Marshmallow in DCIM. Under Storage/Internal Storage/Images, it now shows TWO different Camera folders - one with images before upgrade to Marshmallow which is not recognised when connected to PC, and another Camera folder with photos taken after upgrade - which is visible when connected to the PC. Very strange. Also, I seem unable to move anything over to the SD card. When I select 'copy to', the only option I get is to Google Drive, not SD card.

        • Not sure about the SD card issue. But you can always backup the phone, then reset (factory date reset) the phone to start from scratch.

          To move files, you can install a file eexploer., e,g. ES file explorer.

      • I am having this same issue as Emma. On my phone I have hundreds of photos saved in DCIM folder which I can still view on the phone's Gallery, but after connecting with USB and navigating to that folder it shows the CIM folder as empty, except for photos I took after upgrading to Marshmallow. The SD card is also showing as empty

        • Did you choose to use SD card as internal or portable storage? Did you finish the setup process and format the SD card after updating to Marshmallow?

      • are other folders also empty?

        You can check Settings--storage & USB, tap on internal storage or SD card to navigate them to find out where the photos are.

        If your PC has a SD card reader, you can directly use the SD card on the PC because it seems you use the SD card as portable storage.

        • The LED on Moto G devices sometimes does not work as expected in some models.

          When charging, it should not flash. But for notifications, if LED works, it should flash.

        • One more question while setting ringtone i by mistakenly selected from sd card always how can i select from ringtone provided by moto. Because if i go to setting nd sound notifications nd select ringtone it directly links to sd card not in moto provided ringtone.

        • if you don't know the app that is handling it, go to Settings--apps, tap menu key (3 vertical dots) in top right, tap reset app preferences.

          If you know the app that is handling the ringtone settings, go to settings--apps--APP you knoe (e.g, Es file explorer), tap clear defaults.

        • if the app holds location service, itself usually is in awake state. In battery usage, you can see whether your phone is awake when screen is off.

          anyway, the problem usually disappears after a reboot.

        • Turn off WiFi and turn off WiFi for location service.

          Very likely, a buggy app is holding location service. You should reboot the phone as well.

        • Disable WiFi if you don't use it. If it's on, it will still scan networks available. Location service may also use Wi-Fi for higher accuracy. You can also disable it as well.

  • Is it a company phone? Some companies may install apps that disables factory data reset.

    • Not a company phone. But it was having a lot of problems (no phone ring nor notification of missed calls, no text notification, no facebook messenger notifs until you open messenger, home button wouldn't work, pics wouldn't back up to Photos, etc.) but the recovery mode or "hard reset" seems to have done the trick. Everything working so far, even the factory reset button looks like it would work now.

  • When charging your phone, you need make sure the USB cable is inserted tightly.

    When it stops at 68%, is it still showing charging in lock screen?

    For battery drain, you need check battery usage details.

  • If you set SD card as internal storage, the SD card will be merged with phone storage and you cannot copy files directly to the SD card. On the PC, using Windows explorer to access the phone, create a folder. Then copy files to that folder. Of course, your cannot control the location of the files: actual phone storage or SD card. • GPS is inaccurate on Moto G 2ndgen! I use maps/navigation often, and this is incredibly aggravating. Using 'high accuracy' location setting does not fix the problem. If this can't be fixed soon, I will be switching to an iPhone! Any ideas? Thanks.

• I m using moto g2 updated the 6.o version but now I m unable to use the internet from sim 1 . Able to.make and receive calls but not able to use the internet, changed the sim to 2nd slot but still not able to use the internet. In setting whenever choosing the option for sim 1 for internet it says it will take few minutes to change from sim 2 to sim 1 but it does not change and I have to use internet from sim 2 only.

  • What happen if you use only one SIM card?

    Please note, only one SIM card can connect to 3G.

      In your case, it seems no one can re-produce the problem you have.

      If I were you, I would try another media player, e.g., VLC for android.

  • This is probably normal. Optimizing app is for apps that are not targeted at Marshmallow. You cannot bypass that stage unless you uninstall the app.

    You are supposed not to reboot Moto G so often.

      • I use Boldbeast Recorder Pro. Pros: it works! I had tried several apps but none would record both sides of a call. Boldbeast Recorder Pro does. Relatively simple to setup. Cons: Expensive - it cost me 8 GBP, the most I've ever spent on a Play Store app but I don't regret it. But, calls are recorded in AMR format, so you have to get a format converter app or program to create a CD copy, or to play recordings in your computer. In short, buy this if you want something that works on a Moto G 2nd gen phone.

• So, in my Moto G 2nd gen, I've been downloading media from tumblr and several sites to my internal storage and then moving them to my external storage to avoid problems of performance for over-saturation of media but ever since the Marshmallow update, another folder with the same name was created at the gallery but not the storage and even if I try to move that media to the correct folder, it is already there, yet in the gallery it appears as two different folders with the same name. I already erased chache and boot it up from recovery but there has been no change.

  • Gallery app itself doesn't have any folders. It get media info from media scanner services.

    When you see a duplicated file, you can check the detail info and find the exactly location and compare the details in the info.

    For voice search, you can go to Settings--Google --Search & Now --voice -- OK Google detection, disable "from any screen".

      • Voice search and SD are not related. Very likely, you pressed some buttons and Google search was launched. In Marshmallow, if you hold home button, Google Now will be launched. This is a new feature named as Now on tap.

  • Android doesn't offer uninstall option for updates. You have to visit local service center and ask them to flash the old firmware for you.

    As mentioned, there are a lot of problems after Marshmallow update for Moto G, you can backup up the phone and try a factory data reset. It should solve most of the problems.

• Last month I have updated my Moto G2 to Marshmallow OS. Everything is working fine apart from battery drain issue. I can identify clearly that more battery is getting used in marshmallow then lollipop. As suggested in one of previous comments I have checked battery usage of every application (by going at Settings -> Battery). I found that Apart from Android OS and Display, battery usage of other apps seems OK.

  So, please any one suggest me which thing should I check apart from app's battery usage.

    For SD card, if you set it as internal storage, you should not see it on PC at all.

• Since upgrading, my brand-new Moto 3G is constantly playing my default sound whenever it detects a wifi hotspot that needs login credentials. At first we thought it was the BT Wifi app, so removed it, but phone will not shut-up.

  it's SO darned annoying when walking around an urban area or shopping centre as it now plays my airraid siren sound every few minutes as it switches between open wifi access points that then require a login to be used.

  • You need turn off network notification in Settings --WiFi--Menu (3 vertical dots) --Advanced--network notification.

      • Only one sim card can connect to 3G. You should set the sim card for mobile data as 3G.

        Using 2G mobile data will disconnect there other sim.

  My Moto G 2nd Generation was updated to Marshmallow yesterday and since then I have had problems with hearing my phone calls. There is no dialing sound and neither do the recipients hear me on their end of the conversation. The first time, when I did a reboot, the sound would come back only on the first call that I made and ONLY when the speaker phone was activated and not through the earpiece!

  I tried clearing the cache partition and when that did not work, I finally brought myself to do a factory reset.
  Still, to no avail.

  I read on a forum that I can do an audio check through the developer's options. I tried that with the buzz test, I could hear some noise, but I'm not quite sure what I was supposed to look for.

  I would really appreciate any help you can offer. this is getting very frustrating. Could it be that maybe an app is not compatible with the new updates?

  • You can test the ear speaker by dial (in phone app): *#*#2486#*#* Select CQA menu mode--Audio --Ear speaker. by default it is buzz test, and you can tap Play harvard speech pattern.

    If you can hear the buzz sound clearly or the recording, it means the speaker itself is ok.

    • Same issue, buzz test works but doesn't solve issue.

      • Buzz test only test the hardware. If it is OK, you can try to backup the phone and try a factory reset again. You should try phone calls before re-installing apps.

        You can also test phone calls in safe mode.

• So I've had a problem with do not disturb since I upgraded a few months back.

  No matter how I configure it, do-not-disturb keeps turning itself off when a call comes in (even if I don't answer it). It's a real pain at work because as soon as I miss or take a call all the notifications come back on again.

  • When you set do not disturb, did you set any exceptions? You need check settings --sound & notification --do not disturb -- priority only allows

    • I set a couple of rules to be on do not disturb within certain hours (i.e when I work) and it's during these hours where it will randomly go on loud. And manually setting it to do not disturb didn't seem to work either...

      I never set any rule to allow certain calls or alarms.

      I've just removed these rules completely so I'm just manually setting it now, let's see what happens!

  Ihave updated to Android mashmallow a few days ago. yesterday my battery died, charged my phone all night. Since then i have lost all notifications icons (it doesn't show any notification when I recive sms, emails, facebook etc.), my motodisplay has gone and also the choice of put airplane mode on by scrolling on the home screen.
  Can you help?! tried to turn phone on/off many times, putting it back to charge, change settings..nothing happens. My moto g3 is only a month old! was working fine before then..

  • I have the same problems with the touch response, It's kind of hard to make click, it feels like you have to press harder in order to it responds to the touch. (this only happens sometimes and in some apps). It's pretty annoying.

      If it happens to some specific apps, you can try to clear cache and clear data for the app in Settings --Apps.

    For calling issues, can you use the phone with loud speaker or a headset? Anyway, it's better to backup the phone and try a factory reset. If the problem persists after factory data reset, you may visit service center to check the hardware.

  • For mobile data switching, it's better to turn off mobile data, change settings, then enable mobile data.

      • Not sure as Motorola doesn't expect you to change mobile data frequently. If you disable mobile data, change settings in sim card settings, then turn on mobile data, there should be no issues.

        You can also try to switch to flight mode, wait a min, then turn off flight mode, the mobile data should be connected based on you sim card settings.

        Factory reset may solve some problems. You may try it if problem persists.

  • You can just try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

    You cannot remove the Marshmallow update by yourself. You can visit local service center and ask them to flash lollipop for the phone.

• While upgrading to android 6, i have used SD card option as a portable storage, but sd card not showing files when connected to pc. It is only showing as SD card but not showing the contents of card. After using in adapter, card is showing all contents.

  • When connecting to PC, can you see any files in the internal storage?

    After connecting the phone to the PC, you need unlock lock screen once. Also check notification panel.

      I am having the same issue. After connecting my andriod phone (XT1068) to PC (windows and linux, tried both) after a marshmallow update, i tried selecting both (transfer files, transfer photos) from the USB options (MTP and PTP)
      On my PC , I can see internal storage folders and inside DCIM i can't see any photos. For external storage, it shows as Samsung SD Card, clicking on it shows nothing, its empty. Even tried unlocking the phone, after connecting to the PC, nothing changes ! I can view all files, folder, photos when using the phone, but not when phone is connected to PC. Tried in both MTP and PTP modes, see above... Pls advise. Thanks --deepak

        Seeing one more issue. Post marshmallow update, I am seeing that the SMS application (Not using hangouts, the native sms app) doesn't mark a sms as read, even after opening up and reading the sms. I don't see any settings which i can use to say "mark the sms as read after its opened for say 5 secs). So when i recv a new SMS i still end up seeing other old/stale SMS'es as non-read (bold). Any idea how to fix this one ?

        • Not sure about the issue. I don't have that issue. What happens if you reboot the phone?

        • Tried rebooting several times, doesn't help at all. The old SMS'es un-read status goes off after some time, sometimes after a few minutes sometimes after a few days.. sometimes never :)

        • But sure about this issue. If you switch to hangouts, do you have the same problem?

        • I don't like to use hangouts for SMS. I can switch and try, but does it allow me to switch back to the native SMS app ?

        • Of course, you can switch back and forth at any time. Actually, you only have one copy of the messages. Just use different apps to access them.

        • Did that, switched to hangouts and after some time switched back to SMS native app, the problem still persists.
          Even after opening a new SMS and closing it, it still shows up as bold (i.e. unread) :((

        • How about in Hangouts app? Did you get the similar issue?

      • You need format the SD card once (even you choose to use the sd card as portable storage). So, backup the files in SD card to internal storage or use card readers to backup the files, then format it in the phone. After this, you can use it normally. This is due to some old Android files in the SD card.

          Nevermind, got my SD card to work, had to reboot my phone, after a failed/corrupt SD card, post which andriod gives
          me a option to fix the corrupted SD card, which i did. Now i am able to view/browse the SD files and folders on my PC. Thanks for your help and quick response.

          Backed up all my data and tried formatting the card via the "Storage and USB" option in settings... Selected format as portable storage, it went to around 40% or so, and then gave some error. Now i don't see any external SD card in "Storage and USB" :(( Tried removing the card and using a card reader, inserted in my PC.. that too doesn't mount and / or recognize the card. What do i do now ?

  • 1. Clear cache and clear data for that app, then try again. You can also clear cache partition.

    2. When the phone is connected to the PC, unlock the phone, check the notifications. Tap the USB notification. Make sure it is not charging only.
    3. Clear cache partition. If battery drain problem is not solved, check the battery usage details. You may also backup there phone and try a factory data reset.

    • I'm also facing the same problem in my moto g2. Most of the apps are not working properly. It always shows a notification stating 'not responding'. Whether it be facebook, whatsapp, instagram or any other app. I can't operate my device with such a slow speed.

  • You cannot downgrade in Android by yourself. Top downgrade from Marshmallow to lollipop, you should visit local service centre and ask them to flash the old ROM for the phone. Using the wrong ROM may make the phone unusable.

  After 2/3 days of updating Android 6 in my Moto G2, I am facing hell lot of problems. Major problem are:
  1. Unable to Receive any calls, people are always getting busy tone only. I have checked with other SIM cards, it is giving same result.
  2. No Notification is showing, if I try to drop down, it is not showing anything than "No Notifications"
  3. Screen lock and App locks are not working.
  4. Home screen button not working.
  5. Unable to connect with PC through data cable. PC is not able to open the folders.

  Kindly help, at lest I have to Fix the 1st problem anyway as it is affecting me so much.

    2,3 and 4, you can try to clear cache partition to see whether the notification panel restores. If not, you probably have to backup the phone and try a factory reset.
    5. You need unlock the screen and tap the USB options in notification panel to see whether it's charging only.

    It is really a bad idea to put phone app on lock screen (if you can) because you will make numerous unwanted calls.

  • For apps that are not target for Marshmallow, your phone will "optimize" them when rebooting. You should not worry about it.

    If the phone hangs out heating, you can try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps. You can also check battery usage to find out the apps that drains battery in background.

  1 marshmallow up date I lost the pull down setting.

  • You can still use Settings app in app drawer to reset the phone.

    You can also use power button to reboot into recovery mode to clear cache partition or reset the phone.

      • Are the missed contacts in your Google account? You can check them in your Google dashboard from a PC. Does the phone have issues to user other Google services, e.g., Gmail?

• My problem since upgrading is that certain apps seem to override my volume settings. For instance: I have my phone in do not disturb or priority mode, and I play this game "Dice With Buddies". This is an add which displays an ad (image or movie clip) at certain times. The moment that an ad is displayed, I notice that my volume setting is being overruled. So when my phone is in priority, do-not-disturb, or vibrate mode, it switches back to sound. Very annoying because I have to change it back manually every time I use the app.

  Am I alone in this, or are there more people who have noticed that certain apps change the volume settings of your phone?

  • With Marshmallows Android by default, your phone (or tablet) will be in USB charging only mode. This means no data is going back and forth between your phone and your computer's USB port, and only the 5 volt power is active.

    What you'll need to do is go into your notifications, and tap the USB connection entry. You'll get a dialog that allows you to change settings to file transfer.

    • Had bought moto x play a day back, post upgrade to Android 6.0 facing strange issue, whenever the number in Moto x is being dialled from any network/device it says that phone is busy, have checked the sim using other device but sim is fine, also checked call forwarding settings but they were also fine.   • I think you just wait for the testing results. It is hard to give any meaningful suggestions without detailed battery usage report. The service center can get more data to diagnose the issue.

    For warranty, it depends on regions. In most regions, if the problem is reported before warranty expires, the service center will solve it. So, if the problem is not solved, you need report to the service center promptly.

• I use my phone as a mobile hotspot at a work location where wi-fi is not available. Upon turning on the wifi hotspot last night for the first time since the Marshmallow update the phone crashed, requiring a forced shutdown. The hotspot now takes an age to turn on, and although the "hotspot" notification is showing in the notification bar, it is not visible to any other device. My tablet (Samsung Tab4) is showing as "out of range" despite being inches away, and tests with other devices show that the device is not visible.

      • Edge connection usually means 3G connection is not available. You may try the phone in different location or different time.

        You can also set mobile network preference as 3G for the the SIM card that is used for data.

        • You cannot rollback to Lollipop by yourself. You need visit service center and they can help you flash the old firmware.

  • Not sure about such bugs. Often, it's due to too old firmware on the wifi routers.

    I am also facing the same problem. With Single SIM the Mobile Data gets connected everything is normal. The Moment I place the second SIM in the slot and restart the phone. The connection is lost. Tired the following without success - 1) Checked the roaming status as ON. 2) Aero plane Mode on and Off 3) Change the sim Slot 4) Reset the Network Setting. nothing works. Spoke to the service provider - They stated everything is fine as far as data and connectivity is concerned
    While the Wi- works.
    Hope Google acknowledges that there is a problem while operating in a Dual Sim and accessing Mobile Data.

  • How about voice? Check network status in settings - about phone - status - sim status.

    For mobile data, you also need check APN settings. Anyway, you can try to switch to airplane mode, wait a min, then disable it.

  • Not sure. You have the list to see which app is drain battery. it seems the battery is drained by background data/process because 3% battery for screen means you are using screen less than 20 mins.

  • Are the contacts saved on the SIM card or in your Google account? Start Contacts app, tap menu key (3 vertical dots), tap import/export, choose import from SIM card. This will import your SIM card contacts to the phone and your Google account. For contacts synced with your Google account, you can manually sync them in Settings--Accounts --Google, tap the Google account, then make sure Contacts is syncing.

    For battery drain problems after Android Marshmallow update for Moto G, you need post the battery usage details. You can get such info in Settings--battery. You can post the screenshot in our new facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/gadgetguideonline

  • Hi, same problem here with heads-up notifications. Also whatsapp popups only work randomly.
    Did you find a solution? I cleared the partition cache, reinstalled whatsapp and rebooted several times, no luck

    • backup the phone, and try a factory data reset.

      Prasanth Kumar Samala did mention that he found a solution if you scroll down a bit. But if the setup wizard is not finished properly, it is better to reset the phone because you may face other issues sooner or later.

        For notifications, check Settings--sound & notifications -- app notifications -- WhatsApp, make sure allow peeking is enabled.

          1. for your own files, copy them to SD card or PC or Google drive..
          2. camera photos. You should use Photos app on the phone to backup them to Google server automatically. Check them from your desktop on photos.google.com
          3. contacts, gmail, calendar not necessary as they are synced with Google server already. Check them from Google dashboard on a PC.
          4. sms: SMS backup and restore.

    • Hi, yesterday I updated OS of my Moto G 2nd Gen to marshmallow android 6. It was an official update from Motorola. My device has dual SIM options and I use 2 SIMs -> SIM-1 & SIM-2.

      SIM-1 is having Data.
      SIM-2 is without Data.

      But After update MM, Data is not working for SIM-1 while Data is enabled and APN is correct (as checked/rechecked with ISP).

      There is no problem in voice, both the SIMs works fine for voice.

      If, I insert the SIM-1 in SIM-2's slot and remove SIM-2 then data works fine.

      This means, after updating to MM, I am unable to use both SIMs for data.

      What to do? Any suggestion please

        But, since yesterday evening I find data connection is being established and showing H on the status bar. But it is not permanent, instant and automatic.
        To explain -
        when I change the physical location of device, the H disappear. I then reboot the device, Off/On the mobile data connection button under Settings -> SIM Cards and after sometime (approx 1 - 2 minutes) H reappears. Sometimes H does not appear too. So I repeat the process of rebooting the device and Off/On again till H appears.
        Also I find H does not change automatically from Wi-Fi to Mobile Data connection i.e. H when there is no Wi-Fi connectivity.
        Could you please suggest any way?

        • Not sure. But for mobile data connection, it can be related to signal quality. Normally, it is not necessary to reboot the phone. Switching to airplane mode and switching back will also reset the antenna and mobile network.

          If your Wifi have active internet connection, H should disappear. The delay should be less than 1 min. But if your WiFi loses connections, the switching back to mobile data may take longer time as it will try a few times before switching. In this case, you can turn off wifi and it should switch to mobile data immediately.

        • Factory data reset will erase all your data and settings. You should backup them. Also, after factory data reset, you will be asked to use your Google account to reactivate the phone.         • Call forwarding is better done through your carrier to avoid paying fees twice.

      • Adding to above reply, I would like to inform Mr. Simon that I tried both SIMs in different device having dual SIMs features and found no problem there. I mean to say both the SIMs are fine working in other devices without "marshmallow" OS.
        I even removed many apps from my device but found no relief.
        "Wi Fi" and "mobile data network" does not change automatically when one is not available at the device location. This problem was never before "marshmallow" OS update.

        Please suggest, how can I restore the OS to last OS i.e. lollypop?

        However all of a sudden yesterday evening, data started working but not in a "regular", "without interruption" way. It shows H on the status bar for SIM-1 (which have 3G connectivity). H sometimes appear and then goes off automatically, means mobile network "connect" and "disconnect" frequently. I need to restart the device and then do "Off/On" the mobile data function and then wait to appear H on status bar ( means connection active). If I change the location, the H goes off and then need to restart the device and do activity to restore the data connectivity.
        This was not before "marshmallow".
        Could you suggest what should be the best right now? I am very much frustrated since last 2 days that started after "marshmallow". It seems a non-sense OS of Android.

        • Not sure. But you can backup the phone and try a factory data reset.

          You cannot roll back to lollipop by yourself. If you have to, you need visit local Motorola service center and ask them to flash the lollipop for you.

        It does not show any data icon such as 3G or H or E on the status bar when both the SIMs are in use. When I remove SIM-2 (where data is not active) and only keep SIM-1 (either SIM-1 slot or SIM-2 slot) the status bar shows H (some times 3G..the same way it was showing before upgrade to marshmallow) and data works fine.

        When both SIMs are in use and first SIM is connected to 3G network, in this condition, the SIM status shows as below;

        Status of SIM-1 (this is connected to 3G network):
        Network -> Airtel
        Signal Strength -> -79 dBm 17 asu
        Mobile network -> UMTS
        Service Status -> Voice: In service / Data: Out of Service
        Mobile Network state -> disconnected

        Status of SIM-2 (this is not connected to 3G network):
        Network -> airtel
        Signal Strength -> -73 dBm 20 asu

          1. "When only SIM-1 (in Slot-1 which SIM is connected to 3G network) is used....", it seems you did not turn on mobile data because it is connected to HSPA network already. In this case, you can disable mobile data gloablly, then enable it.

          2. "When both SIMs are in use and first SIM is connected to 3G network......", it seems you did not turn on enable mobile data for SIM 1. it was connected to WCDMA (UMTS, which is 3G), but data is not enabled. Please note, you need enable mobile data in SIM setting for this card, and enable mobile data globally. If both are enabled, you can switch to airplane mode, wait a min, then turn off airplane mode.

      • When mobile data is enabled, what's shown on the status bar? Any mobile data icons? You may also check mobile network status in settings -about phone - status - sim status. Make sure the first sim card is connected to 3g network.

• So after updating to Marshmallow my g3 can't do anything with sd card, since i can't format it as internal storage i tried like 50 times and it's not working, but than i tried using it as portable again so i can at least have my music and photos and stuff, guess what, it's not working either, so i guessed maybe the sd card got fried or whatever agter trying 50 times to format that damn thing as internal storage, so i bought a new sd card to use as portable and on my suprise it won't work either, so i guess im gonna reset my whole damn phone to factory setting and not update anything at all, because so far android 6.0 sucks big time, only got problems with it

  • There are no known SD card issues in Marshmallow update for Moto G. When you use the SD card for internal storage, the initial setup and formatting may take some time. What messages or errors did you get?

    If you use the SD card as portable storage, you can test it on a PC.

    You may explain "not working" with details, e.g., what did you get? Can you see as card in the settings-storage. Otherwise, it's hard for others to guess your problem.

      That's the thing i def reset the phone to factory settings and tried again and no use, and btw i can't read any of the 2 sd cards on the pc after i tried to format them as internal, and it bugs me since everything was fine until i updated to Marshmallow, but if this is the only case where the phone won't format the card but instead fries it than im sending the phone back since this makes no sense .

      • After formatting the SD card as internal storage, your PC cannot read it. This is normal. To use the SD card on the PC, you must format it on the PC. If you intend to use the SD card on both PC and the phone, you should choose portable storage.

        Your PC should always be able to format the SD card unless the SD card is physically damaged/corrupted.

        Anyway, if you still have problem with it, you can visit local service center. They can check whether there are any issues in SD card slot.

    • well it's for the portable data i get the message that the sd card is formatted and when i tap the ok, it's still saying that the card is corrupted and that i have to format it, and when i do the format for the internal storage it takes a few minutes and than i get some tekst but it dissapers after 1 sec so i can't get a real look at it, but however the sd card just dissapers and i have to unplug it and plug it again or sometimes i need to restart the phone just so i can get the message that it's still corrupted and that it can't be used unless i set it up

        im aware that i can't see it or directly acces it on my pc and that is not even the issue here, the issue is that i can't acces it on the phone since i get the message that it's not supported and that i should set it up, and the funny thing is that i did it countless times but the phone just won't accept the sd card neither as internal nor portable, and i used 2 different types of cards just to be sure (samsung and sandisk) one sd hc and the other is sd xc so that's around 100 bucks thrown away since both of those card are now useless for any other device except the phone and the phone won't format them as portable storage so that i can at least use them on other devices.
        I read all the info about it and i know when you format it as internal storage it merges the phone memory and the card memory and than you should read the combined memory when you connect the phone to the pc, and ofc when you set the card up as internal that it can only be used by the phone and no other devices can use it,
        So what i would really like to know is if this is a bug or something similar, or the phone just fried both cards while attempting to format them as internal since that's when i got the error message, and after that the cards were useless since even after formatting them as portable i get the message that the cards were successfully formatted and after hitting ok it's the same story again that the card is not supported.

        • You may try to backup the phone and try a factory data reset. Then try again.

          It's not a known problem in the Marshmallow update, as I know.

          The SD card can still be used in other devices after you format it as internal storage unless it's physically damaged. Other devices just cannot read the data because they are encrypted. But you can format it again so that you can use it on any other devices.

          If you use it as portable storage, it's not necessary to format it off you can use the SD card directly on the PC. You can also format it on the PC, then insert into the phone. It should be ready for using as portable storage.

          Probably the SD card was messed when you tried to format it as internal storage. You can remove it andtry to format it on the PC.

      • yeah i tried it on the pc before i tried to use it as internal storage and it worked, after i tried it as internal it didn't show on the pc, the same thing happend with the second sd card i bought and now i can't see any of them on the pc and can't use them on the phone for no apparent reason and im really getting frustrated so im considering downgrading my phone back to lollipop since this farce with marshmallow makes no sense at all

        • If you use the SD card as internal storage, you will NOT see it on a PC. The SD card is no longer a standalone SD card; it's part of internal storage array. This is explained to you when you enable this option. This SD card cannot be used on other devices unless you formatted again.

          This is actually a welcomed feature for phones with limited internal storage such as Moto G and Moto E.

          You have the option to use SD card as portable storage. You can change it at anytime. In this case, you cannot save apps or app data on it. But you can use it on other devices. You can see it on PC.

      • Did you try the SD card on a PC? You can try to format it on the PC, then try it on the phone.

        If you adopt the SD card as internal storage, you cannot access the SD card storage directly. It will be managed by the system.

        Anyway, make sure you can copy files to the SD card on a PC.

        • Not sure about the message exactly. You can test the SD card on a PC to see whether you can write files to it.

  • Fur smart lock, you need set lock screen security to anything except none or swipe.

      About copy and paste, no news instead: I can copy, but if I tap and hold in an input area, nothing happens.

      • Problem solved: the way to paste changed. You don't need to tap and hold, but you need to tap, select the "drop" shape and the paste shortcut appears.

      • If i tap and hold on some text, i.e. your message, the copy button appears and pressing it I get the message "text copied in the clipboard". After doing it, if I go in an input area (every input area, I tried sms, whatsapp, telegram, the URL area, this message) and i tap and hold...nothing happens. Before the update I was used to do IT without any issue.

      • Not sure. if you tap and hold input area of he message, what do you get?

        Copy and paste should not show at the same time.

• I have mot g3 and the memory card is automatically ejected after few minutes

  • it could be just due to poor contact. You may try to remove the the SD card, then insert it again tightly.

    • I've tried it, placing the card properly, doesn't help. The sd card ejection happens from software only since, if problem was because of loose contact, it shouldn't be detected after reboot either.

      • Hey simon, I did the format and it's been almost a week now that the problem (SD card auto-ejection) has not recurred.

        Often, it is because the contact is not "good" enough. So, most of time, it works. But occasionally, it may lose contact and the phone will see it is disconnected. Did you try other SD card?

        • No, haven't tried another SD card but it was functioning properly before the update.
          And those two options of how to use the SD card has also created a problem. As far as I recall, I had chosen "as a portable storage" as the option and still many of the folders are not visible on my pc. Now I'm copying all of my files into other folders on my SD card and these are visible on my pc so that I'll be able to backup things before trying a format.

        • It's better to format the SD card once even if you use the SD card as portable storage.

  • You may try to transfer a few files in one go, not so many files.

    You also need update Google Play services after firmware update. In Play store app, tap My apps, and try to update all.

• I cannot answer calls from the lock screen. This is a new G3 and I'm new to Android. I just got the phone, updated to Marshmallow and then inserted the SIM. My first call came through while the phone was asleep (screen dark) and the phone showed it and rang. But I could not answer. After many tries I answered one call by swiping to the right (is this the normal way?) though that had not worked before. What is going on?

  • You need swipe to the direction from the button as indicated, NOT tap the button.

      We have bought a new phone (Moto G, 3rd gen) for my father in law and we have exactly the same issue. Although I'm quite experienced with Android, I cannot find a fix for it. For me it looks like the issue was caused after the automatic upgrade to 6.0.1.

      So the phone rings but without any 'pickup call' buttons. When screen is still active and you push the call button, a 'switch to active call' option appears. By doing so, you get the normal pickup buttons to swipe. So it is a workaround but it still quite annoying.

      Is there any solution available yet?

  • Yes I've had the exact same problem. Just today someone said "oh you went very faint there for a moment." I've had other parties complain about "clicking" and other random noises. This phone has been a nightmare - I will never again buy Motorola.

  • No, Moto G3 always checks update automatically when connected to WiFi. There are no options to disable this.

    Actually, after the major update, if you have some problems, you can try to reset the phone to clear old stuff completely. Please note, once updated, you cannot roll back to older versions unless you visit local service centre to flash the phone.

• I have many problems after updating my moto g3 from lollipop to marshmallow. I can list it below.....

  1. Camera shutter sound which is most required, is missing.

  2. Problem with OTG connecting. USB 3.0 pendrive is not getting connected. And problems with other normal pendrives also.
  External storage canot be seen in the ES file manager (which am using and most rexommended). Then tried other file managers and facing the same problem. Finally azus file manager shows the external storage , but forced stopping when copying/moving some data from/to the external storage. This is a very bi problwm for me.

  3. Canot see my internal and sd card when connecting to a PC. Only the "moto g3" drive is seen in the pc and nothing inside that. So this is also a reason for me to hate the marshmalow update.

  4. Am not using many apps in my phone. I am using the same apps when the android lollipop is is working on my phone. But battery drain faster than the lollipop.

  Hope, will fix it in the next update and again hope that the update will come sooooooon!!

  • 1. It's a known problem. You can try to lower the volume for the ringer to lower the shutter sound.
    2. It depends on OTG devices. You may try to clear cache partition to see whether it helps.
    3. Very likely, because you adopted the SD card as internal storage. If you set SD card as internal storage in Marshmallow, it becomes part of the internal storage and you cannot access it separately.

    • I have the same problem - #3 - and I can say for sure on my phone your answer about internal storage is not the problem. My internal storage and SD card are separate. and I'm not it was clear from Noyal's post but since the update suddenly our computers thing the Moto G has neither SD card NOR internal storage. Syncing is no longer an option. My Win 7 computer which opened both internal storage and SD card very happily when using lollipop now thinks that my Moto G 3rd Gen is a tablet, and a black box tablet at that. Help?

      • If your Moto G is listed on the PC, but no storage, it could be caused by:
        1. You don't unlock the screen after you connect there phone to the PC. You only need unlock the screen once after i it is connected to the PC.
        2. The USB is not on MTP mode. Check the notifications on the phone.

• I got earpeice issues in moto g3 after marshmallows update, sound in earpiece is very low plz resolve.

  • You can ask the guys in service centre to adjust the volume a bit. Don't try do it yourself.

        • You cannot go back in Android by yourself. If you really have to, you can visit local Motorola service center. They can flash the old firmware for you.

          Anyway, if you feel the phone is slower, you can try to clear cache partition. If it doesn't solve the problem, you can backup the phone and try a factory data reset.

• I get a notification that Google Play Services needs to be updated but when I open the app the only button is Deactivate. When pressed it opens a dialogue box that tells me only the administrator can do this. How do I fix this? I have a Moto G 3rd gen with the marshmallow update. The problem started after the update.

  • Tapping the notification should bring you to Google play app. You can then tap update. It can also update in background after tapping it. So, if the notification doesn't come up, it means it's updated.

      • Then very likely it's updated already. You can dismiss the notification and try to reboot the phone.

• The moment I updated my phone to marshmallow. Gmail has stopped functioning. Every time it says sync error. I have also uninstalled the updates on gmail and Google Android system Web view but of no help.

  So far what I found in Marshmallow update is:
  As mental before, so sad for Moto Assist removed. Do not disturb is on and only contacts starred are selected but there is no difference from normal.
  My photos are arrange by folders previously created, however any new pic I send to an existing folder: Moto G creates a new folder same name as duplicate with new photo. The old folder remain with no new photos.
  Battery life poor.
  I installed Clean Master as recommended before under Lollipop and use to improve my battery. Now I'm not sure if this slow or drain more power.

  • For do not disturb, do you mean it silences all incoming calls or it fails to silence any calls? Did you see the do not disturb icon when you are in that mode?

    For managing photos, it's better to use a file manager, not the gallery app. You can try es file explorer to play with files and folders directly. It seems there Gallery app has some bugs on caching.

    Clean Master is NOT recommended. You can google the reputation of the company behind it. The only useful feature is to clean junk files. But you can use ES file explorer to do it.

    For battery issue, you can try to check the details of battery usage. You may also clean the cache partition to see whether it helps.

    • For do not disturb, it's active. I have the icon in the upper right. Is set priority and only starred contacts. Fails to silence sounds in WhatsApp. Calls works well but WhatsApp.

      I already uninstalled Clean Master and reinstall Files ES as you suggested :) Expect to understand better or easy cause Gallery App was fantastic before "upgrade".

      For Battery life, how can I clean cache partition?

      • WhatsApp doesn't respect starred contacts. You should not grant priority notification for the app if you want to block some notifications in priority mode. Of course, this will block all.

      I have recently updated the Android to 6.0. Since then I am not able to download the camera pictures through USB to my laptop. when I connect the MOTOG2 to laptop, I was able to go into camera and whats app images and was able to import into laptop.
      Now the laptop sees the device, but shows that there are no files in the device

      Can you help and suggest the method by which I can get the usb port operational.

      I am able to use the USB port for charging the MOTOG2 from laptop.

      • Check notifications on the phone after you connect it to the PC. You need change the USB option to MTP from notification panel. The default in Marshmallow is charging only.

    In my opinion whit Moto Assist gone, my Moto G 3Gen is not anymore smartphone.
    I loved that Moto Assist detected automatically where I was. Now is manual. :(

      How abt the cast screen option, it was said that it may get enabled in marshmallow.

      • Cast screen on Moto G is for Chromecast. It should work.

          Will you recommend using the SD card as internal storage.?

        • It is up to your requirements. If you need more storage for apps and photos, you have no choice, but to use the SD card as internal storage. In this case, you should get a high speed SD card.

  • It depends on your region. But in most regions, the Marshmallow update for Moto G 2014 will very likely be rolled out in March/April.

      • Very likely within this month Android Marshmallow update for Moto G 2014 will be released in India, as I know.
