How to use Moto G camera and change camera settings?

The specs of Moto G camera may be not so impressive. But the 5MP rear camera in  Moto G (and 8MP in Moto G 2nd Gen, and 13MP in Moto G 3rd Gen) can produce quite decent photos and videos. Most of the time, the photo quality is even comparable to that of some high-end smartphones.

Most owners like Moto G’s camera because using Moto G camera is so simple and straightforward.  And changing the settings of Moto G camera is very intuitive as well.

Please note, all generations of Moto G, Moto E and Moto X use an identical Motorola camera app (with slightly different options). This means this guide equally applies to Moto X and Moto E.

For Moto G 2015 (Moto g 3rd Gen), please check this special Moto G 2105 camera guide.

Use Moto G camera

Once camera is launched, you can touch anywhere on the screen to take photo, as shown in the image left.

To take multiple photos (burst mode), for example, the object is moving, and you want to capture different the object in different locations, you can just touch and hold the screen.

As updated in Android 4.4, Moto G camera also supports drag to focus and exposure. You can drag the green bracket anywhere in the screen. Moto G camera will adjust the focus and exposure of the photo based on this location.

To use the digital zoom (of course there is no optical zoom in smartphones) of Moto G camera, simple drag up or down with one finger (as shown in right). The available digital zoom of  Moto G camera is  between 1X – 4X.

To switch between front and rear camera, touch   in the camera screen

To switch to video mode and start recording, touch   in the camera screen

To stop video recording, touch   in the screen.

You can also take a still shot when you are using Moto G camera for video recording. To save a photo, touch anywhere on the screen while recording.

All photos and videos taken can be easily accessed from the Gallery app.

Moto G camera settings

Changing settings of Moto G camera is also a snap.

You can get the camera options by swiping the screen right. All  Moto G camera settings are there.

The interface is simple and very intuitive.

The symbols and meanings in Moto G camera settings are listed here for your reference.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) is best when used for landscapes or outdoor portraits. HDR mode will not work when Flash is set to On.

Flash – Set flash to On,Off or Auto

Touch on the screen (tap to focus) . In Android 4.4, it is updated to drag to focus and exposure

 Take a slow motion video

 Take a panorama photo

Tag your photos with a location

Change the aspect ratio of  the photo to 16:9. The photo will be saved with a 3.8MP resolution. The default is 4:3 and the corresponding resolution is 5MP.

Turn the shutter tone On or Off

Get help on using the camera. The tips and instructions will be shown on screen if it is tapped.

Updating Moto G camera

Unlike any other Android phones, Motorola puts the camera app in the the Google Play store. So you can update Moto G camera without waiting for the system update.

You can always check whether there is udate by launching Google Play app (then check for update). Of course, you can also set the update as automatic.

Changing Moto G camera resolution

Sometimes, due to the limitation in the Moot G  storage, you may want to use lower resolutions for your photo or videos.

But unfortunately, Motorola does not allow you to change the Moto G camera resolution. You can only change the ratio.

So, the resolution of photos taken from the Moto G’s rear camera is always 5MP (at 4:3, default) or 3.8MP (at 16:9). To change the aspect ratio of Moto G camera, you can swipe  the screen  to right to get the Moto G camera controls. Then tap 16:9.

Of course, you can use third-party camera apps to choose the Moto G camera resolution. For example, Camera360 Ultimate (it is free in Google Play store) allows you to do this easily.

For videos, Moto G camera will always capture the video at HD 720p with 30fps. You simply have no options to change the settings.

Any questions with the camera in your Moto G? Please let us know in the comment box below.

  • Hi, I want to use MOTO G8 Power to make videos for my new youtube channel and today i have created few video clips from this phone. the problem i have observed it that all those videos are created in Portrait mode and are not fitting into the screen. please help me to suggest how to create videos in Landscape (full screen) mode in Moto G8 power if the phone is placed vertically in the hand. Many thanks in advance

    • Normally, it should split the video at 4GB (this is the default video file size limit in the old API), not stopping the recording.

Anyway, you may try the Open Camera app (it is free) to see whether it works for you.

  • Hi
My moto G5 stops videoing after about 31mins saying that the video size limit is reached. The file is 3.79GB and there is plenty of storage space on the sd card. how can I increase the video size limit?

  • My moto g play camera's resolution is 72 DPI. How to increase/change the camera's DPI settings? Thanks...

    • DPI (dots-per-inch) is only for printing. The resolution usually refers to the number of pixels (dots).

In the recent Motorola camera app, you can only set the aspect ratio. The number of pixels is fixed.

  • Moto G9 power, normal cameras work fine (both front and rear). But using whatsapp, try take a photo and it's super zoomed in both front and rear camera although not using zoom. How can I fix this please?

  • The pictures taken by my MOTO g6 play do not give true colours. For example my grandson had a green top on and it turns out pale blue yet when I WhatApp it to my daughter who has a Samsung phone the picture shows the correct colour. This happens to pictures taken indoors and outdoors. Red Poppies turn out orange. If I had know this before buying I would have stuck with my samsung Galaxy Young which is an entry level phone and takes better pictures and offers so many more modes for taking pictures. Can this be fixed.

    • it sounds like a display colour issue because the photo shows the correct colour on Samsung phones.

In Settings, go to Display --color mode (or display --advanced --colors), you can try vibrant and standard to see whether it improves.

Also, you should turn off Night light in the Display settings.

  • All of the sudden, every time I take a photo, it snaps and then it says "processing." When it's done, it gives me some weird outlined photo like I applied a filter (which I did not), and it does this for every photo.

Please let me know what is causing this problem and how to resolve it. Thanks!

    • It sounds like you select some camera modes. Are you sure you are in the default photo mode? You can switch to video mode, then switch back to photo mode.

    • did you turn off the microphone when shooting the video?

When yous change to video mode, do you see a row of icons on the top (or left in landscape orientation). There is a button for you to mute (or unmute) microphone.

  • Actually I get my new phone three days ago ..at that time many options were visible at that time in camera when I swiped right like slow motion nd cut out nd many more but when now I m doing the same then many options are not seeming to me in the camera ... what should I do....????? Please tell me ....

    • The camera app does not tag you. Google Photos may identify different people in your albums. You can turn off "group similar faces" in Google Photos app.

Do you mean location tag? In the camera settings, you can choose to not to save location.

  • Since the last update, a message appears on my camera screen saying " you are in battery saver mode all functions may not work" I know I'm in battery saver mode, I want to be in battery saver mode. But I want the message to to not be there.bit doesn't go away, I can't figure how to turn it off. Before the update it was fine and didn't do this. It makes the camera useless. I don't want to turn the battery saver on if I'm hiking. How do I fix this or should I throw the phone out?

    • Unfortunately, there are no options to turn the message off. But you can use the camera and ignore it.

You can also quickly dismiss the message by switching to the video mode, then changing back.

  • My moto g4 camera app is posting the wrong time on my pictures. The time is off by 7 hrs. The time on my device is set correctly. Why then are my pics timed wrong? This was never an issue until March 2020, I am now noticing.

    • Is the timestamp in the filename correct? It seems the app did not get the correct time zone settings. You may try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

  • I have a Moto G Power and see nothing about using the wide angle lens. Or is it just a matter of zooming out all the way to 0.5? That's a wider shot than 1.0 but not by much. Is there no separate setting for wide angle shots?

    • Set the zoom to 0.5x. Tap 1x (on the left, below the row of buttons when holding the phone in landscape orientation), you should see the 0.5x (ultrawide) and 2x (telephoto).

  • I have just got the moto g8 plus so settings are all default. When i am taking pictures holding the phone in prtraite mode i see it in the full screen which is good. When I switch to video what i am am about to record is in widescreen with large sections of the scene top and bottom all blurred out. how can i record in the same way i take pictures i.e all what i see in the portrait camera.

    • You may just change the video size to see whether it helps (tap Gear icon in the camera interface, then tap video size, by default, it is FHD. You can change to anything else, check the preview, then switch back).

    • There is no dedicated sports mode. You can try manual mode (you can find the tap the A button in the viewfinder to enable it) which gives you full control.

There are 9 different Moto G8 models as explained here. If you are using Moto G8 Plus, Moto G Stylus, and Moto G Pro, then you can try the action cam to record video, then extract frames from the video.

You can also try slow-motion videos. Set fps to 120 at FHD, then extract frames.

Anyway, you need to experiment to see which is best for you (depending on the model as well).

  • My Moto G (1stGen) took panorama shots of about 180°, but my Moto G5 only takes about 120°. Is there a way to take wider shots on the G5?

    • No settings for the panorama mode in Moto camera app. You can try some third-party camera apps.

  • Hi,
On a Moto G5 Plus, I'm trying to take a selfie video, but don't want the wide-angle lens. Do you know of a way to switch the lens or adjust the settings?
    Thank you.
    Tony

    • Moto G5 Plus only has one front camera sensor. And it is a normal one.

Probably you are talking about the aspect ratio. The 16:9 photo will occupy the full screen and looks wider. You can change the photo size to 4:3. Open the camera app, switch to the front camera, then tap the gear icon in the camera app, under selfie camera settings, set Photo size to 4:3 (5MP).

  • Can you switch from the front to rear camera while recording? The switch button disappears when recording or pausing. I have a Moto E G7 power.

  • Is there a way to set a mass photo filter setting for ALL photos automatically? It's a real pain having to select photos one by one. I've found that the current setting is too dark, and would like to change it to "Auto" a general rule of thumb. True, some photos may need different filters (I've used "West," "Metro," "Blush," or Palma" for example), but for most photos, I'd like them to be set to "Auto." Can you advise? Thanks!

    • What's the Moto G generation of your phone? Normally, you can choose none. You can always add filter or effects when editing photos later.

  • I have the Moto G4, I have several issues with the camera.
1st There is a lag from the time I touch the screen to take a picture. I have searched the internet for a resolution to this and occasionally after a fix the camera resorts back to lag. This lag is not short. You see the circle in the screen when the picture is taken an it appears as it is circling at the end of the circle the picture is taken. This lag can be 3 seconds to 5 or 6 seconds. My pictures always come out blurred.

2nd I under stand the proper way to take a picture or video is to hold my Moto G4 horizontally ( not vertically ). When I take pictures or videos this way & transfer to my lap top the picture or video fill the entire laptop screen, looks great.
Take a picture or video with the phone held vertically you end up with a narrow picture or video with black on both left & right of the screen.
So what is my issue you say??? well all is great until I get out side. Try to take a picture or video out side with the phone held horizontally and the screen goes BLACK! yes black you can't see anything even though the phones camera although it is in fact taking pictures or videos.
Turn the phone vertically & wallah the picture looking through the phone appears. Turn it horizontal no picture can be seen even though it is taking pictures & videos. You just can't see what you are filming.
Again I can't find anyone else with this issue.
I took to a Motorola service center & they said just use it vertically & no problem. ( that was not the answer I was looking for)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    • It sounds like the phone is running low on resources. Are you using a SD card? What is the available internal storage? Are you using any antivirus or task manager apps?

  • Hi. I can't get the flash to work in with the front camera on my Moto G3. Fine on the rear facing one. I have tried setting the flash to both "on" and "automatic" but neither works. Any suggestions?

    • There is no flash for the front facing camera. In later models, you can use screen as flash. But it's not available in G3.

    • Nope. Almost all smartphone cameras don't offer this feature because date and location are saved automatically in the photos (as meta data). Some photo editing apps may can print the date on photos automatically.

  • I have a Moto G4 and the "Quick Capture" feature, where you can quickly turn the camera on from a sleeping phone with a twist of the wrist, now won't open, but directs me to change the app permissions. It seems the camera wants to know my location. Is there a way to prevent this (without storing my location with all my photos - which I don't want to do)? If I unlock the phone first, I can still use the camera without turning on location, though recently it does keep asking me to change that.

    • I understand your concerns. But your need to trust the developer when you use the app. Motorola up to now has a good reputation.

  • I have a motor g plus 5th gen. Why does the camera smooth or edit out details ie. Freckles? I would like to be able to turn this feature off if possible.

  • Is there any way to get a full screen view while taking pictures on a moto g5. It was there before but once the update happened it has changed the screen smaller.

    • It depends on the picture size settings. If you choose a picture with a 16:9 ratio, it should show in full screen in preview screen.

Anyway, why do you need the full-screen view when the photo has as different aspect ratio as the screen? Most people take photos with 4:3 aspect ratio, but the screen has a 16:9 ratio.

  • I have a Moto G1 and I have come to know that there is no update to the android 6.0 or 7.0 while there is a Android 8.0 craze going out in the recent 2018 smartphone market. Is there a way to upgrade my Moto G to Android 6.0 or higher?

  • I've a G5, but get terrible colour reproduction and focus, mainly on zoom. I see you recommend not using zoom, but you need to sometimes. Do other apps give a better result? Motorola had me reset everything to default and start again, but it had no effect - they say it's not a fault with the camera

    • You can try using Shotlight. It is truly a wonder for free. You can download it from the Play Store. I found that the zoom on this app gives out the shot very clearly without having the hazzle of the photo losing its quality after being zoomed.

    • Digital zoom always has that issue. It's often worsen than taking normal photos, then zoom in later on.

I don't think any apps can fix it. But you can try Snapseed. It's free from Google and very powerful.

Anyway, optical zoom in smartphone is not the mainstream due to the thickness of the phones. You should try not to use zoom when taking photos unless you have an optical zoom.

    • Moto G2 does not support the shutter option with a selfie stick. There is another simple alternative if you do not have a bluetooth selfie stick. Simply mount the phone on the selfie stick and use a headphone as the shutter to snap.

  • Recent purchase of a camera shutter wire control from Gosky to use with Moto G 5.1 Android phone. Will not work. How do I get it to work. Thanks.

      • Hi Simon
Thank you for this very useful guide. I have just got a bluetooth shutter release clicker which my Moto G5 recognises and pairs with ok but it does not respond to the click. Any thoughts? Thanks Maggie

    • You can use the HypoCam app available on Play Store for this purpose. HypoCam is specially designed for Black and White photography with extreme details.

  • Am using Moto 2nd gen..

  • My husband just got a Moto G Play phone and we are trying to figure out how to have the photo pop up right after you take a photo. His old phone displayed the picture right away for sharing. Is there a setting for this? Thank you.

    • Photo review is a feature in Samsung phones. Moto G don't have it. But you can tap the Google photos icon in the camera interface to check the photos.

  • I have the Moto 4. I do not understand the ratio settings for the camera. I do inspections and have to input the photos into a company format that the pictures are set at 640 x 480. Which setting to I use for this.

  • I have the Moto G5 with a 64GB Samsung SD Card installed, Pictures I take are easily transferred to My Nero 17 Nero MediaHome but with the Video Transfer I only get the sound that is recorded no Video, what can I do to rectify this problem. even taking the SD Card out of the phone and using a card reader I still get pictures to upload but with video it's sound only and no vision

  • New owner of moto 5g. I had been able to take and view pictures on my phone. Now when I take a picture and I go to photo app to view it is not there. There is a message that the backup is complete. Where are my pictures? How do I get to the backed up pictures?
    Thanks for any help.

    • You can clear cache and clear data for camera app to reset the camera. You can do this in Settings- apps.

  • Hi, I have a Moto G5 Plus and I can't seem to find a way to flip photos. I can rotate them clockwise but flipping horizontally and vertically doesn't seem to be an option. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • In camera app, switch to front camera first, then pull out settings from left side, then you can find the "Selfie photo mirror option"

  • I am unable to make use of selfi stick for taking 0hotos . I connected the selfi pin to camera but clicking the selfi button photos are not taken. No shutter action. What changes to the phone camera settings are to be done. Can Moto g5 phones be used with selfie stickwhich do not have Bluetooth

    • There is no software to support this function. You can simply use a headphone to snap your pictures with mic button in it. Simply connect your headphone to your phone. Then open your camera and click the microphone button. Ola! And the photo will be snapped. You can simply mount the phone on the selfie stick and connect a headphone to it.

  • Moto G4 plus camera phone is not recognising the button of selfie stick even with an app like selfie stick camera..but the app recognizes the earphone button and so it is configurable to camera shutter click. but i tried with various selfie stick button. they are not recognised by the app and i found there is no way to configure the selfie stick button to camera click. Help please

  • Halo I have Motorola second generation everything is just as expected but when launch camera it does not show selfie it only brings video sign

    • Did you mean there is no camera switch button? Did you try third-party camera apps?

You can try to reboot the phone to see where it helps.

  • I want to send pictures without the date on. Every time I send someone a photo by email it has the day it was taken on it. I have been searching for answers for ages but can't find anything. Thank you .

    • Did you mean date is printed on the photo? The picture delivered through email should look exactly as in your phone.

If date on file name, you can rename it.

  • Hello

I recorded a video of a show in slow motion witout knowing so I need to know if there's any way to get the sound back.

  • Selfie stick not working with my moto g4 plus. But the same works on my another g4 plus. When I click sound button it captures the picture.

    • Not sure. But it is better to get a Bluetooth selfie stick for Moto phones. Audio cable selfie stick may have problems with Moto phones.

  • Hello, having brand new Motorola G3 and having issue with camera. Although I have 4GB of free internal space, when I try to take a photo, I'm getting message: "Not enough space" . Os is 6.0.1.
I dont have SD card inside

    • Did you deny the permissions when you start the camera app? Can you check the Settings-- Storage & USB to find out the actual free storage.

You may try to reset the camera app. In Settings-- apps -- Camera. tap clear cache, then tap clear data. Now, try the camera app again.

You can also try Google camera app.

  • Hi.I have moto g2 .when i am using camera after two or three minute camera has hang. How to solve the problem

    • Reboot the phone. If you installed any battery saving app it task manager app, you can try to disable them.

  • I have moto g2. From last 3 months, when I get start camera. There is no option to switch camera on selfi mode.
    So I can't take selfie.

    • Did you try other camera apps, for example, Google camera?

Anyway, you can try to reset camera app in settings - apps - camera. You can clear cache and clear data to reset the camera app.

You can also reboot the phone to see where it helps.

  • My phone model is Moto 4 G [13 mp camera] . My phone picture quality is not good , very blur even not clear. If I take a pic of document then it will come very unclear seems took from 5 mp camera whereas front camera working fine pic quality is good. I reset the setting but non of things working for me.
    Please suggest ...

    • Did you try other camera apps, for example, Google camera?

For the Moto camera app, you can try to clear cache and clear data in Settings - apps.

  • My moto g2 camera doesn't take clear images at night, especially during low light. If I switch on auto flash, it captures unclear images with a purple kinda background. Is there anything i cud do to resolve this issue..
I've noted tat even Samsung phones (quite older models) have much better clarity comparatively. Please suggest something.

    • Did you try other camera apps, e.g., Google camera?

Anyway, Moto G2 camera is not good in low light conditions.

  • Hi, i have moto G4 and there is some issue with the pictures i take. everything seems to come in yellow tone, actual colours are not captured, can we fix this?

    • Did you try to turn on and off HDR? You can also try to use Google camera to see whether it makes any difference.

  • Hi my Motorola 3 G does not hve the "Focus" option in the camera setting, it goes from HDR to flash skipping Focus altogether. I cant zoom at all. I uninstalled , reinstalled , updated Motorola Camera to no avail. I can never add the Focus option to the settings. Is this the reason I can't use Zoom with my camera?

Could you please help and let me know what I should do?
    Thanks so much.
    Lee.

    • Hi Lee, I just downloaded the Camera360 app that was recommended in this article. I'm trying to change my aperture setting to take pics up close of smaller things to start my Etsy shop.
It's safe...and free. Maybe this app will help us both. :)

      USA!!

    • Zooming and focus are not related.

For focus, you just tap and hold the area top be focused in the preview screen.

For zooming, you should try not to use it because digital zoom is not good for photos. Anyway, you can pinch or spread to zoom in and out if you really want to use it.

  • I have a Motorola Moto G 3rd gen and I want to move my vacation photos from my camera/camera roll from my internal storage to my computer. Pictures are in my internal storage (is currently 15.01Gb/16Gb full, no SD card). When I attach my USB to my computer and open the MotoG3, I see a lot of folders but the DCIM folder only holds app folders and Facebook folder, no Camera folder. Not in Picture folder either (only holds app folders). I can see the pictures in my Gallery and in Images>Camera on my phone, but the folder that holds the photos (/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera/) cannot be found via my computer, and neither can the photo file name. How is this possible, and can someone help me find my photos on my computer? I have too many to transfer by hand, and I want to keep a few on my phone while removing the rest.

    • Not sure. But did you check it carefully? Your can take a screenshot and share it on our Facebook page so that others may have better idea.

    • Google search bar is part of the Google Now launcher. You cannot remove it. You have to use third-party launchers if you don't like the search bar.

  • my phone not working in front camera.once i have reset the camera settings, but can't view the front camera icon and not working now,how to slove it pls help me.

  • Hello, I think some thing is going wrong with my camera i want to reset it.During starting days of using my phone photos are good but now my photos are not coming good i think some went wrong with my camera options. So can you please tell me how can i reset camera ?? If i do reset is there any risk ???

    Thanks in advance

    • It's safe to reset camera app. You can reset camera app in settings - apps - camera, tap storage, then tap clear cache and clear data.

You may also try to clean the camera lens.

  • Hi ,

My motog phone hangs as soon as I take a picture and swipe left to see them . The lower screen options freeze and there is no way other than switching phone off and on. This happens most of the time I take pictures.

      • Hi Simon ,

I tried now with other camera app as you suggested - open camera ,and it did not hang for me so far .

        • If other camera apps work, you can try to reset Motorola camera app (settings--apps -- camera --storage, tap clear data, tap clear data, then try again.

  • On a Moto G, is it possible to disable the screen while actively capturing a video? Every method I have tried interrupts the capture/recording process.

    • No, I don't think you can turn off screen when recording videos. Most smartphones some have this feature.

  • Moto E 2nd Gen-when the phone has 0 charge then 100 charge, the phone powers on and then it scans every app, it can take up to an hr to complete and I can't stop it or use the phone. Is there a solution to this? Tks

Also, the Font/Text is in black and white for all correspondence? I can't see well and this makes it even harder. Where do I go to change this? I've looked everywhere! Tks

    • It's not necessary to power off the phone. I don't think it's scanning your apps. Your are probably taking about app optimisation. This is usually one time action after each update.

You can try some accessibility settings (settings - accessibility) to get different color schemes.

  • So i want to use a selfie stick with my moto g, but apparently the os is too advance for standard sticks, even with the 360 camera app, nothing will work, and this is a big dissappointment

  • Dear

    I have a Motorola G 2nd generation.
I was extremely happy with the camera with the factory settings, but once I have tried some settings, it seems I can't get back to my so loved factory settings.
Can you suggest me what to do?

    • Settings--Apps-- camera--storage, tap clear cache and clear data will reset camera app.

  • Well I changed to Video mode and now there is no option to photo mode, so how you do it, there are only 2 buttons change camera front to back and record, slide left to right are the options, right to left fotos and videos, up to down zoom, so how can i change it? Moto G lollipop

    • Motorola camera app does not use a separate video(recording) mode. Tap the recording/video button to start to record. Tap the stop button will bring you back. In this page, you can use gestures.

When you are recording, you can zoom in and out. There are no reasons to use other gestures.

  • Can you take a still picture while watching a video you had previously recorded? And if so..... How????

    • Yes, you can take a screenshot when the video is played.

The better way is to use video editor app which can extract any frames from video.

  • Why all my videos in every app including FB Instagram MX player are being played slow. Also the audio is disabled...how can i fix that?

    • Hi Pratik, I'm not yet a Moto G user (just reading up on it before I get one) so can't claim any great knowledge, but your problem reminds me of the same effect I had when playing back certain videos from my Panasonic TZ70 camera, i.e. too slow and no audio. I soon realised this was due to me forgetting I had recorded certain footage in slow motion, which doesn't record audio (and is slow!). Any chance your video record settings are on 'slow mo' by mistake? Just a thought...

  • How i can deactivate invert option in front cam. Of my moto x 1st gen .. And can u guide me on focus option .. Thank u..

  • Hi, I have second generation moto G . I have updated android 6.0 but after update we are facing restart device when I do on Internet connection and any app. Pls suggest some solutions.

  • How do i Take pictures with my selfie stick? It's audio one, not Bluetooth. I have Moto G 2nd gen

    • You may try some other Camera apps. Camera360 used to be a good one. But now it becomes something strange.

  • Hello can anyone help? I have been using my phone camera and using a cable to download to computer. Now I find I have photos in my gallery but the computer says there are no new photos. I didn't clean out my gallery so it's true some are already on my computer. What has gone wrong. I could clear the memory but that loses my photos which I still want. I'm wondering if there is a glitch? I had to change my sim to a different port because it makes a call but I can't hear. The other port works fine.

    • How did you transfer photos to the PC?

You can set USB mode to MTP on the phone. Then check DCIM folder.

  • How to off auto noise reducing mode.........because with auto noise reducing mode moto G3 gives less quality pics

    • You may have to try other camera apps. Motorola camera app is designed for owners who do not want to touch settings.

  • Hi I am using Moto 3rd Generation and when I open camera their is option coming to turn on the front camera .For last months I am facing this issue.

  • I'd like to open gallery / view a photo / make it opaque (see through) and WHILE it is still on my screen be able to take a photo. I am a designer and often use images in photo simulations and this would be the most amazing feature. How can I make it happen?

    • I don't know there are any camera apps with these features. Actually it's better to do such things in photo editor with layer support.

  • Hi I have moto g 3rd generation I bought this just a Month back and now suddenly I am facing some camera problems like there is a lot of lights spreading and photo is also not clear but in the beginning it was not like this after update to marshmallow the problem started

    • You can try to clear cache and clear data for the camera app on settings - apps - all - camera. This will reset your camera.

You can also try other camera apps, for example, Google camera.

  • Hi,

I have moto G second generation and it seems that the rear camera stopped working suddenly. Only front camera is working and there is no option to switch to rear camera, I have done factory reset and also tried with safe mode but the issue still persists. please help.

    • If factory reset doesn't solve the problem, it's probably a hardware problem in camera module and you need visit local Motorola service center took check the phone.

Did you try other camera apps, e.g., Google camera?

      • I Pull out the settings ring from left side in my camera app, I rotate it but it shows the HDR,FLASH,NIGHT MODE,VIDEO,PHOTO,TIMER,PANORAMA,LOCATION,QUICK CAPTURE that's all it doesn't show me that option...
but My friend MOTO E Has this option along with that camera app having some additional options like memory card, sound etc.. these are not present in my MOTO G3 ..

        • The tap to focus option is removed because the feature is always on in Marshmallow update for Moto G3. You can drag the focus ring to anywhere as before. Tap outside of the focus ring to take the picture.

Yes, some other options were also removed. The shutter sound control was removed, possibly for legal reasons. But Motorola probably will bring it back in some regions.

The SD card option was removed because now you have different options to use SD card in Marshmallow. You may follow this guide on using SD card on Moto G3 with Marshmallow update.

    • You should get a Bluetooth selfie stick, not audio cable one. Motorola camera app does not use volume button to take photos.

You can try some other camera apps.

  • I got the phone last month. I can't take any pictures but only videos. I have tried everything. What's going on?

    • Don't tap the video button. Tap anywhere on the screen to take photos. Motorola camera app doesn't use shutter button.

      • My camera won't work and the option no longer appears on the scroll out options. It will only take videos even when I touch the screen.

    • I thought I had the exact same problem. A friend turned it off by making a change on one of the camera settings. I think it was the video camera.

    • Shutter sound option was removed in camera app after you updated the phone to Android Marshmallow. You can try to lower the ringtone volume before taking photos to lower shutter sound.

    • You can mirror your photo in Gallery app. Start Gallery app, select the photo, then tap the Edit (pencil) icon, then tap crop icon. You can then find the mirror option.

      • Cannot send text with pictures attached. It says it is converting to MMS, sending and then timing out. Am I saving pictures in a different format? This has only happened recently, other wise it worked fine

        • Very likely, the APN settings for MMS were messed up. You should call your phone company, they can then send you the correct settings. Normally, when the message comes, it will ask you whether to apply it and you just apply it.

  • hii am using moto g genaration 2 handset ...when i start camera i gt one eror liike unable to start if this happen again plz power off ur phone u restart...so plz sugest...

    • Did you reboot the phone to see whether it helps? Can you use third party camera apps, e.g., Google camera?

        • Power off (hold power button, wait for power options). Then power on.

Of course, you can just hold power button for more than 10 seconds, it should reboot.

    • You can use APD TimeStamp to add timestamp top any photos on your phone.

For camera apps, camera360 used to have the option. But the new version of the app is a disaster. If you want to use camera app with time stamp, you may try Advance Camera.

    • The camera shutter sound option was removed in the camera app in Marshmallow update.

You can try to reduce the volume of the ringer to see whether it reduces the shutter sound volume.

  • My Name is Arif.

I have using Moto G 3rd Gen. Phone.

  • Hello I have a Motorola 2nd Gen moto g phone and the camera is playing up. When I turn the camera to take the photo as a landscape photo, the image is off centre. Have I done something inadvertently to the settings? Thanks.

  • even am facing the same issue, i got an moto camera update recently now am unable to turn off shutter sound[even when the device is in silent mode]

      • Hi, I am unable to mute the shutter sound. In fact don't see an option to change the shutter sound in the cam settings. Making phone on silent and minimizing the media sound does not help to reduce the shutter sound of the camera. Please suggest.

        Thank you.

  • HELLO I WANT TO BUY SELFI STICK FOR MOTO G 2ND GENERATION..WHICH IS THE BEST ONE..AND WHERE SHOULD I BUY...CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME..

    • There is no best one. You just get one that meets your needs (budget, size, weight...).

Just remember, you should get a Bluetooth selfie stick for Moto G, NOT the audio cable one.

  • HELLO..,I AM USING MOTO G 2ND GENERATION MOBILE..CAN I KNOW HOW TO USE SELFI STICK FOR MOTO G 2ND GENERATION..IF ANY ONE KNOWS PLEASE GIVE REPLY..THANK U

    • Most Bluetooth selfie sticks work with Moto G. Just don't buy audio cables ones. You should read the specs of the selfie stick. You can also confirm with the seller whether it supports Moto G.

      • THE SHOP KEEPER HAS SAID IT WORKS WITH MOTO G 2ND GENERATION..HE SAID TO DOWNLOAD CAMERA 360 APP BUT IT IS NOT WORKING AND NOT SUPPORTING...IS THERE ANY APP FOR CONNECTING MOTO G 2ND GENERATION..CAN ANYONE CAN TELL ME PLEASE...

        • As mentioned, you should get a Bluetooth one, not audio cable one.

Did you try it in Camera360? using volume button to take photo is buried somewhere in the latest version.

    • No, Moto G first Gen stopped at Lollipop. Moto G 2nd gen (Moto G 2014) in most (not all) resgions will get Marshmallow update. Moto G 3rd gen (Moto G 2015) will get Marshmallow update in all regions.

  • I am using moto 3g for the past two months. Recently I updated marshmallow, since then I an unable to mute the camera sound. I could also see that there is no sound option in camera settings. Please guide me

    • This is a known problem on Moto G Marshmallow update.

If you mute the ringer, you will also mute the shutter sound.

      • Hi,

Even after clearing Cache of camera and turning off the ringer volume, camera shutter sound is still there. Could you please help me in that?

        Thanks

        • If the volume of shutter sound ids not affected by ringer volume, then there are no solutions yet. But on my Moto X Pure, it does work.

      • Can’t able to turn off the camera shutter sound after marshmallow update in motog3
Even phone ringer is on silent mode still camera shutter sound cant stop
Plese help me out from this
I tried alot to stop it i put my phone on silent mute vibration but still facing the problem

        • The shutter sound use volume settings of the ringer.

You may try to clear cache and clear data for the camera app.

  • Hi, i have updated my Moto G 3rd Gen to marshmallow. Since the update I am unable to switch off the camera shutter sound. So please tell me how to switch off the camera shutter sound.

    • Silencing the phone should silence camera shutter sound. In home screen, when all apps are closed, press volume down and move the slider to the leftmost.

      • Problem is still the same
Put my phone on silent but camera shutter sound is still ON
After clearing camera caches and clear data shutters sound remains the same

      • I am having the same problem in Moto G3 after the Android 6 update. The shutter sound still persists even after phone is on total silence.

  • I purchased Motorola MOTO G 2 generation phone recently. However, I find that the camera could not focus very well. After making the camera aimed at the object, the focus often changes. Anyone konw why? Thanks!

  • The front camera of my moto g 2nd generation has stopped working, only the front camera works. How can I solve this problem

    • Can you switch cameras in the camera app? What's the error message?

You can try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

  • Can anyone plz say me how to connect a techfish click stick (selfie stick)to moto g3.plz help me with this.

    • If it use audio cable, you have to use third-party camera apps. You can try Camera360. Motorola camera only supports Bluetooth selfie sticks.

      • Even if I do so when I click the button Google is getting open instead of getting the picture clicked.can u plz help me with diz

        • You need contact the seller. As mentioned, you should get a Bluetooth selfie stick, not the audio cable one.

If you can, you can try to disable OK Google detection on all pages on Google settings.

    • In the camera app, pull out the settings ring from the left side, turn on control focus and exposure (the icon between flash and video settings.

Once control focus & exposure is enabled, you should see a yellow circle on camera interface, tgap and hold to move to the desired location. You can also change the exposure by rotating the small sun icon.

    • You can fix the mirrored photo in photo editors. Motorola camera does not offer the option to flip the photo.

  • I have a Moto G 2nd Gen and the front camera has stopped working. I tried clearing the data but it didn't work. I installed the Google Camera too but the front camera won't work for that app as well. What can I do?

  • my moto g2 mobile selfie and camera are not working only video mode supporting how can i get my camera mode in my mobile moto generation2.

    • Motorola camera does not have camera or video mode. There is no camera shutter button. Just tap anywhere on the screen to take photos.

    • 1. did you update Motorola camera app the the latest version?
      2. can you pull out the settings ring from left side in camera app, then rotate it?

  • What is sd card today I take photos then the mobile gots switched off after switching on the photo is not in my gallery I don't know what is happening its coming its not in ur sd card also I can't able to open the camera settings

    • Did the phone turn off automatically when you took photos? Or did you power it off? Can you check the SD card on a pc?

Anyway, you can try to clear cache and clear data for camera app in settings - apps, then try again.

    • Camera busy error usually indicates some other apps are using the camera app. You can try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

You can also reboot the phone into safe mode to find out whether the problem is caused by apps you installed or apps pre-installed.

  • I have Moto G 2015. Can't get flashlight to go on with vertical quick vertical top to down motion.

    • When I try to take a picture outdoors, I can almost never see what I am trying to photograph because there is so much glare, whether the sun is in front of me or behind me, and whether I am using the front camera or the back. What can I do to be able to see my subject?

      • Increase the brightness of the screen to use the screen outdoors.

If you need use the phone under the sunlight directly very often, you may consider use a mat screen protector which may reduce the reflection.

  • My moto G 3 has camera problem. When i open the camera its takes photos itself automatically. Is there any solution for this?

  • in my MOTO G 3rd gen phone camara clarity is littel bit dull compare to other moto g 3rd gen phone why this so..? in my phone clarity showing little yellow effect and in other its showing white ?

    • Did you compare photos on the same device? It could be just a display issue.

Also, you can try to use other camera apps, and turn on/off HDR to see whether it is improved.

In some phones, the camera lens is covered by plastic film. If yours get one, you can remove it.

      • No it remains same but I compared camara lence in tht my cel phone lence looks blue nd other phone lens looks yellow!

        • sir i compared both photos but in my cel clearity looks dull wether its camara problam .i can send u the images which took in my phone and with other....

          • Did you try different camera settings and camera apps?

Anyway, if you know it's a hardware problem, you need check with the seller or local service center indicated in the warranty card.

      • Hey, is there any way to see my pictures without closing the camera and opening up the gallery? It seems like most cameras actually show the picture you just took. It is a Motorola droid maxx2.
        Thanks

        • Swipe from the right edge of the screen to left side in camera app. (Just opposite to that getting settings ring).

  • Ok I like the feature of Time delay picture taking..with the Icon if a stop watch it looks like..but when I got on WiFi II didn't realize I hadsettings on update all apps when on WiFi.. Couldn't stop it and now I got a mess to clean up on Apps..my Camera phone added a couple more options but the Time Delay option is gone.. It usually gives you a choice of 3 or 10 seconds..I really want it back..but How???

    • The timer option should still be there. Why don't you want to update apps? You can disable auto app update in play store app.

    • There is no such an option in Motorola camera app. Not sure whether there are any camera apps have this feature of printing date/time on photos.

  • in my phone while switching on to rear camera i can able to zoom only 4*o and in frount camera also i can able to zoom only 4*o ...........so actually rear camera of moto g3 is 13 MP naa then why i should'nt able to near by13*0 MP ...........................please rell me the wt is the problem

  • Hello sir
I have one problems on moto g2 second gen.in front camera mode I took my face normally then I go to gallary it shows mirror image how to change. Plz help us

    • You need edit it in the gallery app. The Motorola camera does not offer the option to turn on/off saving mirrored photos. Some third-party camera apps may offer this option.

Anyway, you can edit the photo in any photo editors.

  • While taking selfie, the camera is taking 2-3 secs before taking the picture. How to change such setting?

    • Swipe upwards.

In Lollipop (with Google Now launcher), swipe up to unlock the screen (or to enter password), swipe to left to open camera, and swipe right to open dial (for emergency calls).

    • If hard reset (factory data reset) doesn't solve the camera problem, you should visit the service center to check the phone.

You can also try other camera apps, for example, Google camera.

  • When I take a pic using the front camera, the post processing just dims the pic. This wasn't happening before. Any solution? Moto x Gen1

    • This is normal. The Motorola camera app does not offer the option to turn on/off mirror for front camera.

You can always edit the photo in gallery app. tap the pencil (edit) icon, then you can mirror it again to get your desired photos.

Of course, you can use some third-party camera apps which may offer the option to turn on/off the mirror effect for front camera.

  • I am trying to use the headphone jack to connect my Xtreme Selfie Stick with shutter button to the Moto 2G with Motorola Camera. Instructions say tell the camera app to use phone volume control as shutter, but I see no way to do this. Questions: is the Moto 2G compatible with a plug-in shutter? Is there another camera app that will permit this if the Motorola Camera does not? thanks!

    • The vendor should tell you the selfie stick doesn't work with Moto G. You should get a Bluetooth one.

      You can try camera360 app.

  • Hi Simon, Could you plese let me know which service centre I should visit. I stay at Fermilab, Batavia

    • Then it is probably a hardware problem. You may have to visit local Motorola service center.

Of course, before you visit there, you need back up your phone. You can also try to reset the phone to see whether the problem persists after backing up your data.

  • I tried to clear the cache partition and rebooted the phone but still I din't get my front camera back

  • Hi Simon, Could you please let me know why front camera option is not there when i try to use the phone's camera

  • I purchased moto g3, but its camera quality seems to be not good even as 8 mp, even i changed it quality to 13 mp;is it required to update camera software?

    • You should always try to use the latest version of the camera app.

Moto G is one of the best "middle-range" smartphone under $200. The photo quality is probably not comparable to that $600-800 phones.

In outdoor, Moto G3 camera should be quite good. In low light conditions, the quality may be not good. It does not have optical image stabilizer (OIS).

  • My front camera option just disappeared from my phone , I tried to reboot to operate in the safe mode as described bit still I din't get the front camera back. I just bought the phone 2 weeks ago

    • Motorola thinks you are beautiful enough, so this feature is not available.

You can always edit the photo in Galley app or other photo editors.

You can try some third-party camera apps (e.g., camera360) if you need this feature.

      • While taking photos sometimes a circle emerges before clicking.. And such photos come with slightly blurring the background and sharpening the object resulting brilliant pic.. I want to learn how to give this effect whenever I want to.. Please help

        • This is manual control focus and exposure. You can move the green circle (with a rectangle inside) to change the focus and exposure level based on current area. You can also set the exposure levels manually by moving the little sun icon along the circle.

You can enable it in the settings ring (pull out from left side, rotate the ring, you can find the icon with a finder and a rectangle). Tap the icon to enable it. This setting should be persistent. If the green circle is not shown (but it is enabled), you can try to disable it and then enable it again.

  • Is there any solution for moto e first gen.
Problem is that camera quality for read text document is very very very bad .
    Feeling sad.

    • No solution. The problem is due to hardware limitation. The camera sensor in Moto E 1st Gen doesn't support auto focus. The camera is improved in 2nd Gen.

  • I have moto g 1st gen.. Whenever I update galary my images don't show up in the updated gallery.. Why is that so?? Any solutions

    • Do you mean gallery app update?

You can try to reboot the phone. This will force the phone to scan your media files and then show pictures in Gallery app.

  • Recently I have purchased Moto G 16GB (3rd Gen) 2015.The issue is with the Calendar App. The weekly days (Mon.Tue & so on) not visible in some months e.g. Aug,2015 don't shows these days.Even date 30 & 31 is also missing.Like this Nov,2015,where days & date 30 not visible! Likewise the same problem is with few months of 2016 & 2017!!
Secondly Moto G do not have File Manger? So I have downloaded 'File Commander"App.Is it Ok..?

    • Today I updated my Calendar & to my pleasant surprise the above referred problem with this app is no more now.

  • I am facing with my moto g 3rd gen camera saying ‘Camera Busy. Camera unable to startnd– I tried restarting and I tried stopping the camera on phone but its not working, I just got the phone a day back is there some persistent defect with the phone camera? How do I resolve the current problem? How can i operate moto G3 in safe mode?
Or how to enter in safe mode?

  • I have a Moto X and purchased a generic selfie stick. I have downloaded the Camera 360 Ultimate App and made sure the volume is set on "capture". However, I still cannot make the selfie stick work with my phone. Any suggestions? Sherri

  • I am using Moto g 3rd generation. I am facing problem in gallery. it is showing only that images and videos which is in SD card and not Phone memory. when I open file manager it is showing there. it is not even showing in Google photos. please help me out how to change the settings of the gallery.

    • Some apps does not allow media scan. Media files in these folders will not be shown in Gallery or Photos. This is normal.

You can remove the .nomedia file in these folders individually. You need turn on show hidden files in file explorer. But some apps may re-create it again.

  • Hi
I have a Moto G2 ..i am having issues with the size of the videos ...a video of just 1 minutes is showing as a 70 MB file.. is there any way to reduce the size

    • No, the Moto G2 camera always record video on 720p. You can save videos and photos to SD card.

You can try third party camera apps which may support different settings for videos and photos. You can try Google camera app.

  • Hi,

I have moto G 1st gen: And how can i set a timer to take a picture myself in moto g ? Please help.

    Thanks,
    Sai

    • The updated camera app has a timer.

Did you update your phone? Once updated, pull out the settings ring from left side in camera interface and you can set timer.

      • I don't see an icon that indicates a timer on the settings ring.

Nor do I understand when people write about using volume keys to take pictures while using a selfie stick. I have had my Moto G 1st gen for a year now and I am still so confused about how to take a selfie that I haven't even bought a selfie stick - fearing it might not work, as I have seen other people write about, and not understanding how to get it to work if it doesn't! Why oh why is none of this intuitive??

        • Did you update your phone? The original camera app doesn't have the timer.

Also, for the ring, you need rotate it to access more options.

The Motorola camera app does NOT support volume button to take photos. So, you should get a Bluetooth selfie stick, not the ones using 3.5mm jack.

Of course, you can also try third party camera apps. Fir example, camera360 has a timer and support volume buttons took take photos.

  • Moto G 3rd Gen, trying to attach photos from the gallery to an email but there is no longer and option to reduce the file size like I could on my old Samsung. I sued to be able to just select the photo and a pop up asked what size original, small, medium or large. Is there a way to do this on the 3rd Gen moto G?

    • I don't think the email app on Moto G has this feature. Yes, Samsung email app will ask you to go choose the size when you select pictures from gallery.

  • I m facing a problem with moto g 3rd generation's camera..when i open the camera it takes pictures itself..please tell me something about it...

    • Because you touched the screen. Moto G camera app doesn't have a shutter button. You tap shutter to take photos.

  • In my moto G 3rd generation when i take photo and zoom it than its clearity no longer exist. Than it not shown clear image. Os there any setting for it.

  • Camera360 supports volume keys,but...The application sees the stick, but do not act. Where can we write to Motorola, to consider making to go with a simple selfiestick. Thank you !

    • You should use Bluetooth selfie stick. The seller should tell you the 3.5mm jack one does not work on Moto devices.

I don't think Motorola has an universal feedback channel. But you can always try to check their website.

  • my moto g third gen fails to focus on micro shots sometimes,as there is no micro mode option in camera what to do

    • Be patient. The auto focus may be slow when the object is too close. Most smartphone cameras do not have macro mode.

      • I am not saying that it's not focusing.. I have to try from different angles to maintain the detailed image while close shots..motorola should improve their camera software.

        • as i tried all third party apps ,all same result. You see The camera actually can focus very sharp close up shots while autofocus process but capture blured,it not happens always but sometimes.I can show you my micro shots which are very good in detail.Only camera 360 do well in micro mode try it. but I think default camera is best in colour detail and clearity than all others although it fails in micro shots

        • It won't focus on the small things. With or without the manual focus. Point is, the CA.era focus feature does not work at all. I fail to see why a customer would need to download some other camera app in order to have the camera on their phone work properly. That defeats the purpose. OBVIOUSLY I will have to get some other camera app since this version that came with the phone is worthless.

It needs to be fixed. Period.

        • The camera will NOT focus no matter what I do. I can move that stupid box all over and it continues to "attempt to focus" then only makes the background sharp despite where the box is.
I'm trying to take a picture of my son's sliced open toe and the camera REFUSES to focus on the toe but wow, the sheet or carpet beneath the toe looks fabulous.
FIX THE CAMERA! Worst camera phone I have ever used. Worthless to me and a complete waste of money to have gone with this phone.

          • Did you try other camera apps, e.g., Google camera?

When you have problem with focus, you can turn off touch to focus and try again.

        • The Moto G 3rd Gen camera sensor actually is quite good. Did you try Google camera app to see whether it improves the photo?

  • my moto g 3rd gen camera keeps saying 'Camera Busy. Camera unable to start. If this repeats please power off your phone and restart.' - I tried restarting and I tried stopping the camera service on phone. No luck. Can't get camera to work from any app.

    • I am facing the same problem as ronenosity with my moto g 3rd gen camera saying ‘Camera Busy. Camera unable to start. If this repeats please power off your phone and restart.’ – I tried restarting and I tried stopping the camera on phone but its not working, I just got the phone a day back is there some persistent defect with the phone camera? How do I resolve the current problem?

  • front camera is not proper wen I suppose to click selfie its getting mirror image..... and I have reset my device but its dat only!!!1 plz help me wat can i do for dis prblm

    • Motorola camera app does not offer the option to flip the the photo. You can flip the photo in Gallery app after taking the photo.

  • When the Flash is ON in camera settings for MOTO g3 and I try to take photo using front camera..
I observed yellow color screen display(it like a flash in the screen) and then photo is taken
    Is this the behavior ???

    • Yes, this is normal. Moto G 2015 (3rd Gen) uses the screen as flash (if enabled) for the front camera. (Similar to the snapchat feature).

  • Is there any way to use an external microphone to get better sound? Setups that work with other android devices don't work with the moto g :(

  • When I use the front camera of the Moto G3, the phone does not save a mirror image but a "flipped" image in the gallery. How can I change the settings so that only the mirror image gets saved?

        • The Motorola camera app is designed to work in this way. It has nothing to do with the hardware or the firmware.

You can try some third-party camera apps. Some have the option for you to choose whether you saved mirrored or not.

  • I was at a concert taking pictures and videos and the band members faces came out white as a ghost. Why is that? My friends smart phones take better photos at concerts than my digital camera. I thought the Moto G would capture better photos than my digital camera but was soo wrong. isn't the Moto G HD?

    • Normally, a camera is better than smartphone camera because of the tiny camera sensor in smartphones.

Moto G can take HD 720p videos. But in low light conditions, the quality is not so good.

        • are you using the stock camera app? what are the settings you applied?

You can try Google camera to see whether you have the identical issue.

  • Camera can't capture multiple photos of moving objects anymore....Captured images are all blur...How do i fix it??

    • The default camera does not have a sports mode. You may try to use other camera app with more camera modes.

You may also try to turn off HDR to see whether it helps a bit.

      • And i cant unlock my screen every time i locked it...My 'back' key gts stuck and stops working.....I've tried everything..factory erased my phone..etc..still doesn't work...how do i fix it?

        • If factory reset doesn't solve the problem, you need visit local Motorola service center.

Of course, you can try some other keyboard, e.g., SwiftKey.

    • I think you are referring to resolution of the photo (how many pixels in the photo). You need use third party camera apps to get this option. Motorola camera app only allow adjust aspect ratio, not resolution.

      • Thank you for your answer.
But what I am looking for is not the dimensions or the ratio is the quality of the photos the DPI (Dot Per Inch) Now my photos have 3264 x 2448 and is now at 72 DPI.
Is it possible to have it at 200DPI for better quality?

        • Dpi has nothing to do with photo quality. Only some very old printers use it. You can change it to whatever values on pcs with most photo editors.

Modern printers and OSes have their own way to adjust it based on resolution and paper/display size. They don't use the value you specified in the photo.

    • I think the flash controls disappeared with the lollipop update on mine. I use my flash to fill flash in backlit pictures mostly, so having a control for the overall brightness instead doesn't really help me.

      • oops! never mind. I found my flash control again. For some reason I couldn't get the controller wheel to spin when I tried it before, but I finally got it to work. I am happy once more!

  • I recently got a selfie stick that has a plug to plug into the headphone jack & allows u to take pic my clicking the button on the stick. Instructions were to just plug it in & it should work. Well that didnt happen & others have told me I might need to change my settings to volume key takes pics. But I do not see anywhere on the camera app settings to change this. Is this something that I can change & is this selfie stick even compatible with the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen phone.. Thanks

    • Motorola camera app doesn't support taking photodynamic with volume keys. You need use other camera apps. Camera360 supports volume keys.

Most Bluetooth selfie sticks work with Motorola camera. Next time, you'd better buy this type sticks.

  • When I try to record the phone says please restart camera or unfortunately camera has stop. I think because its on HD 720 but how do I take it out of HD mode?

    • If you take the video on landscape orientation, the video should be in landscape mode even when auto rotate screen is off.

But when you play the video, you need make sure auto rotate screen is turned on.

      • When I shoot video in landscape using say MEERKAT it looks great on the phone, but when I replay it using Katchkat/YouTube, it appears 90 degrees rotated and unwatchable. I don't understand why what was shot in landscape doesn't stay in landscape? Same if I just connect to my desktop PC and watch in Windows, 90 deg rotated!

        • Autorotate is turned on. The same problem occurs if I record a video, transfer it to my desktop and play it. This is driving me mad because I hate recording video in portrait mode.

          • it seems the orientation info was messed up. You may reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

        • You can try to record a video with the camera app and see whether you can play locally in correct orientation.

The problem is very likely due to misinterpretation of the phone orientation by the app. You should turn on autorotate on the phone before recording. You also make sure the front camera is in the left side when you look at the screen.

  • Photos clocked with MotoG camera are very big in size sometimes even 2-3 MB
How change the settings so that pic size is small ?

    • Use other camera apps that allow you to change picture size. For example, Google camera or canera360.

  • I am having problem with my camera. I can't focus on object that are far away. But I can focus perfect in close objects....

  • I just bought a selfie stick that uses the headphone jack. even though my MOTO G does use the volume as trigger for pictures, I still cant get it to work. My husbands iphone works fine.. but for some reason it is not acknowledging my Moto G Any suggestions on how to get this to be compatible before I download Google Camera?

    • plenty of apps that will support that selfie stick just a pain that you have to launch a separate camera app to take photos

      • What app would u Suggest?Because I downloaded The Camera 360 App.But it still didn't work? The selfie stick says no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Needed just plug into headphone jack turn on selfie mode... And snap away with the button...But It Never Worked,And I returned it to the store thinking I brought a malfunction one,and still nothing....
        Thanks,
        TaylorMade

  • I'm using moto g2 since dec..now i'm facing camera issue...whenever i open camera it shows camera busy if its happens again poweroff ur phn and restart...i had done all troubleshoot steps, clear caeche, format phone but nothing happens its still facing same problem...now what to do..

        • Press and hold power button until you see the power options. Tap and hold power off until it asks you to reboot into safe mode.

        • if other camera apps get the same error, it is possible, one of your other apps is hogging the resource.

You can try to reboot the phone into safe mode to test.

  • Hello, I am trying to geotag photos taken with my moto g. I have enabled the "location" option in the camera settings. The gps location appears to be captured correctly as I can view the location in google maps when I select "show on map" from the photo's menu. However, the problem lies when I download the photos to my PC. The gps data is not stored in the photo's EXIF meta data (I have confirmed this by looking at the photo properties directly in Windows 8 and also with an online EXIF viewer). How do I get the gps data from my phone onto my PC?

    • I tested it and found the GPS info is still there.

You may try to directly "copy" and "paste" (without any conversions). All the info was written in the jpg file. So, when you directly copy and paste, it must be copied.

      • I've downloaded to Google Photos but I can't find the location data anywhere. You mentioned 'show on map' from the photo's menu. I can't find that either. The location is allowed in the settings. Where am I going wrong?

        • In Google photos, ope the photo, tap the "i" button to get info page. The detailed location will be shown on a map. You need internet connection to show the map.

Can you see the details (data taken, file size, ....) of the photo?

    • The new camera app does have a timer. Pull out the setting ring, rotate it and you should be able to find it.

  • So ive got a moto g model. And my friend recorded a video but what he didnt realise was that he was recording upside down. So when the video was done we found that it ended up playing sideways is there anyway to rotate the video so it is playing horizontally? Or do we have to record the video again? I've tried to edit it and there doesn't seem to be a way as far as I can see. Thanks

    • Most video players can rotate the view when playing the video.

Also, most video editors can rotate the view.

  • after i take pictures from Moto G camera, the details of the pictures show wrong date and time as in the time taken.

please guide me get correct date and time, as details in all pictures or videos that i shoot.

    thanks

      • Yes..the file name under subhead path shows correct time.
        Thanks
So what do I do to get oorect time as in picture taken?

        • Did you check the details on the phone or on other devices? It sounds like the app/program tries to use utc.

        • It could be a timezone setting issue. But normally, the camera app should take time from your system directly,

Are the file names consistent with actual time or the wrong time? The file name should be in format of IMG_YYYYMMDD__HHMMSSNNN.

  • I have a Moto G second gen.
Just recently it has stopped giving me the option to switch to switch to the 'selfie' camera. The icon no longer appears on the camera screen. It won't switch over on apps like snapchat either, even though the button is present.
I have tried the above Settings > Force Stop > Clear memory > Clear Cache --> Restart phone, but no success.
    Any other suggestions?

  • I have a Moto G Gen 2.

When recording longer videos it sometimes stops because of lack of storage space on the internal memory. Can I change a setting to have the videos record to the SD card?

Right now I have to go to Storage and select move media to SD to free up space.

    • On the camera settings, you can set the storage as sd card so that all new photos and videos will be saved to sd card.

You can pull out the settings ring from left edge of the screen in camera app.

      • The circle of camera settings must be scrolled in order to find the storage icon. Stupid design, hiding options like that!

        • Wow, thanks! That is exactly the piece of information I was missing. I don't know why all of the instructions online to change the default save location didn't mention that the circle menu scrolls.

          Many many thanks!

  • hi i baught a new moto g 2 earlier but front cam is not working. cam opend then error message comes (please restart the camera). how to solve the problem please reply me any one

  • Whenever I try to click a picture, a circle comes in the center of the screen and keeps rotating. Ultimately I have to close the camera and start again. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

    • Settings-- Apps --Camera, tap clear cache, then tap clear data. Then try again.

You can also try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

  • My Moto g2 front camera not working.it throws Camera Error "please restart camera". Any solution for that?

  • I have a new Moto G, 2nd generation. After I take a picture, I am unable to find it in the gallery or in Google+ photos. I have EZ File Explorer. I could search in there, but I don't know what file name the device would save the pictures I took under since I was not given any options, such as to "Save As."

    • You may try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

Ate the photos saved to sd card or internal storage? You can check the settings in camera app.

    • The default camera app in moto g doesn't allow you to change the resolution. But you can some third party camera apps. Most of them allow you to change the resolution. You may try camera360 or Google camera.

  • Moto G ... Is there a difference between "Photos" and "Gallery"? I was playing with it. Taking a few pictures. And when it asked, "All the Time" or "Just This Once" I inadvertently touched, "All the Time" and I guess all the pictures are going to Gallery. How can I can that to "Photos"? and do I want to?

    • They are two different apps. Gallery is the default media manager. Photos are part of Google plus.

The location of photos saved in your moto g is independent of such apps. Both gallery and photos get file location from media scanner. Your camera app save photos in the fixed folder. You can still open gallery app to manage all photos.

In android, if more than one app can handle the same task, then when you want to perform this task, the system need know which app you are going to use.

To reset the default app, go to settings- apps- Google+, tap clear defaults.

  • I want to know how to zoom and save a particular portion of the photo already taken and available in gallery. In moto g

    • You can edit photos in the Gallery app or photos app. Open the photo, then you have the edit option. You can crop the photo as you want.

  • I bought a new MOTO G 2nd generation. everything going well but front camera is not working :( please suggest me for solution

  • I updated my moto g 1 gen last month, I can't see pics and video taken by camera in gallery.. Till day before yesterday I could see..what happen? Pls guide me as those pics are important.

    • Very likely, you swipe from left edge of the lock screen. This is the quick way to access camera from lock screen.

The digital zoom should work when spread your two fingers.

  • Is there any issue saving pictures and videos direct to SD? To overcome the storage limitation?

    • In the camera app, there is an option for you to save photos and videos to SD card (if the model supports SD card).

I don't think there are any know issues for saving photos and videos into the SD card if you choose a branded SD card (Class 10 is preferred),

  • I can't get to the photos I took. I want to get to "Gallery", but seem to be "stuck" and can only take a picture or selfie and record.

  • Why is there no sound on videos I recorded when the sound was not working? I presumed the microphone would not be affected? The sound is now working again after I turned it on and off but the videos still have no sound... Is there any way of restoring the sound? Thank you

  • The camera on my new Moto G (2nd-gen) is useless indoors. Without natural sunlight through the window pictures are distorted or have different hues such as blue or red. It is a good phone but I believe Motorola should have put a better camera in this phone. Each camera phone I have purchased over 10 years the cameras seems to get progressively worse. I thought progress was meant to go the other way and consumer products would improve. The Cameras in phones 10 years ago were better because companies did not use the cheapest lenses to maximize their profits..

  • Hi!

I have a Moto G 2nd Gen and every time I record a video it is not smooth, the image jumps from time to time... Any Idea on how to solve this?

As aditional Info I'm recording to my SD card which is a Class 10 Card, and it also happens if I record to the internal storage...

    Thanks!

    • I don't think you can. But you can use tap to focus if you want to change focus.

What do you want to achieve?

Please note cameras in smartphones are designed to be simpler than point and shot cameras. Take out of phone and take a photo without much manual settings.

        • In the setting ring (which can be pulled out from left side, aka, swiping from left edge of he screen), you should be able to find the clock symbol. Tap it to set 3 to 3 or 10 seconds.

If you cannot find the icon, try to check update in Play store.

  • Hi simon.. I have been using moto g 2nd gen for two months now.. However two days back I noticed that any picture taken through front camera reverses itself. Could you please help me on this?
    Thank you!

        • Most third-party camera apps offer the option for you to choose mirrored or not. Motorola camera and Google camera app do not offer the option.

Anyway, you can always use photo editing tool to recover the desired image.

  • i am not able to view old camera photos (which i took a month ago). I can only see them if i connecct phone throuhgh a data cable with my laptop... can someone help???

  • I can get my camera to work fine just wen I push the the camera that switches to the front facing camera it says " camera busy ,camera unable to start if this repeats turn off phone...well I turned my phone off a couple times it still won't work

    • You may try to clear data and clear cache for the camera app in settings-apps-camera.

You can also try third party camera apps to see whether you have the same problem when switching the camera. You may try camera360.

  • I can't view the photos and videos taken with the phone's camera. Everything else can be seen. Is it because I haven't updated my phone?

  • My camera is apparently on all the time. How do I turn it off so no one I don't want to see can see where I am and what I'm doing? I have done a factory reset twice and still the camera is on.

    • Not sure how do you know the camera is on.

By the way, the camera need take photos to record anything. Do you find any photos that are not taken by you.

If you do not want to be tracked, you can turn off location service: but your phone company can always track you with your mobile signal.

  • Hi . I took pictures today in my moto g. After taking the pictures , I saw that the date in my phone was 17.1.15 . I changed the date in settings but the pictures were in 17.1.15 folder. Any idea how to change it ?????? Please help me.

    • It's always auto focus. Motorola camera app doesn't provide options to enable or disable it. What you can change is tapping to focus, in other words, you can change the focus area. You can find the setting in the ring.

  • what is the advantage in android 4.4.4 kit over 5.0.2 lollipop version can you explain me plz
explain advantage as well as dis advantage plz after updating to 5.0.2 my phone was slow thats y i am asking

  • Hi,
I update my Moto G2 two days back from Android 4.4.4 to Android 5.0.2, after which the phone worked just fine but later i noticed that in my camera i can only use the front camera & the option to toggle between the front & back camera is no more there. nor is the flash light option on the drop down menu. I have tried to hard reset the phone, safe mode, enable disable camera app, clear cache, disable 3rd part software's, restart the phone, even install 3rd party camera apps & even removed the memory card, but nothing helps. in all cases only the front camera works. This has happened only after updating the phone to Android 5.0.2, prior to that the phone was just perfect & had no issues. also there is no physical damage to the phone & it was never dropped sat upon or miss handled. So how do i get my camera back to how it was when i had Android 4.4.4.I am sure its not a hardware issue its a bug with the Android 5.0.2 update on the Moto-G2
    Motorola Moto-G 2nd Generation 16GB Black. Model XT1068, System Version 22.21.28.en.03
    Thanks & Regards,
    Nikhil Mohan.

    • Not about the bug. It seems you have done everything you can do.

If the camera switch does not appear in other camera apps, it usually is a hardware issue. You may visit local Motorola service center to check the phone.

    • Yes the lollipop update was released in both Moto G and Moto G 2nd Gen. But this depends on your region. You can check whether the update is available for your handset in settings - about phone.

    • It's not functional. The cast screen is for Chromecast on nexus devices.

On Moto G, including Moto G 2nd Gen, you still have to use Chromecast app of you want to mirror the screen to TV.

    • In the camera settings. Pull the ring out from left side, and you can find the clock icon for timer. If you cannot find the clock icon in the ring, try to check whether you need update the camera app from Play store.

      • I have moto g first gen love the phone but the camera has green tint over every photo can you help

        • You may try to turn on/off HDR in camera settings to see whether it helps.

You may also try some other camera apps, e.g.,camera360 to see whether the problem is hardware related or caused by the app.

  • Hii I am using moto g 2nd generation. Is there any way to take a photo while the vedio is recording. Can you tell me

  • How to manage photo in grid... I don't want to display image of latest photo from any album on front when I open gallery..

    Is that possible?

    • The Gallery app does not provide you such an option.

You can choose camera roll, highlights, albums and videos. I think the default is album. Camera is only one of the albums.

    • You may try other camera apps, e.g., camera360 or LINE canera to see whether the problem is caused by the camera app.

You may also clean the lens cover if it's dirty.

  • hi simon..i bought the mobile 2 days back,All working conditions are good,,,but whenever i am capturing the pic from my moto g2 camera,,,the picture shows some light red/orange shade ......the problem persists at day time and night time too.

    • You may check whether the plastic film is removed from the camera lens.

You may also try other camera apps, e.g., camera 360 to see whether the photos have the similar issues.

  • Hi Guys,

I lost my switching camera icon on Motorola G. Any ideas on how to bring it back? I don't see any options in settings.

    Please help.

    Ankur

    • You may reset the camera app in settings -apps - camera, tap clear cache, then tap cleat data.

If it does not work, you may try some other camera apps, e.g., camera360 to see whether you can switch to front camera.

  • Hi.

i've just transfered all my photos from my Moto G phone to my computer and am now trying to mass delete them from the phone and can't figure out how.

any suggestions? i've googled it and can't find the answer yet. is this possible?

    thanks.

  • How can you change how you take pictures on a moto g mine is on the volume keys i bought a selfie button and can't change how you take pictures instead of on the volume button please help

    • Why not use voice command? If Motorola voice commands are not available in your region, you can use Google Now voice command.

        • In the camera app, you should have an icon for you to switch between front and rear cameras. If not, you can try to clear cache and clear data for the camera app.

You can try other camera apps, for example, canera360 or LINE camera.

  • When I take picture with my frilont cam. While seeing in the screen it looks brighter . after I take the picture it goes dim . what's d reason fr this. I want the real image which was seen. Any tips for this ?

  • How can I set contact pictures? I want to crop but it says it cannot save the new changes and won't let me put the pictures.

    • You may try it again when the phone is connected to the internet.

Alternatively, you can edit contacts on a PC. Go to your Google dashboard.

      • I OK I got that...now one more problem is dear
When I play music from Google play.....there is no sound it comes for ½hr n again goes...for 3 or 4 hr m getting too disturb...because I cnt here music n wen I plug earphone also there is no sound....I have call to the moto care he give me the solution. Of reebot n switching off phone but still its same....so got to the gallery they put the new software....today......but its still happening again....so can u help me please...m wating for u reply...

  • Can any plz help with front camera when I use for video calling like Skype or any other video calling app.my foto is very dark I mean other party cannot see my face clear...I had tried settings and increase brightness...does not help.

  • when I first got my moto g I could delete pictures by swiping them up or down. now I have to use the delete icon. what did I Change?!

    • Camera sensor only can focus one area. If you want to change the focus, you can use tap to focus.

If you need some special effects, you can use apps to do these on any photos.

  • My old photos no longer show up on Gallery - I can only see photos taken today on my 'Camera Roll'. Same with the Photos app. I know they're all still stores on the phone because I've used a third-party file manager app to navigate to the folder DCIM/Camera and there I can see (and open) today's pictures AND all of my old pictures. Any idea why this is happening? I've tried restarting but it didn't help.

      • That didn't help, but thanks anyway. It's a mystery. My photos are synced to cloud storage anyway so they're safe, and I have to delete photos from the phone periodically or I'd fill up my storage - so I won't lose sleep over it.

  • I am new to Moto G. When I go into camera to take a photo it automatically starts taking photos and I can't stop it, what have I done wrong?

    • Moto G camera app does not come with timer. You may try third-party camera apps that have timer. e.g., camera360 or LINE camera.

  • My Camera display blinks and some blue lights gets on and off at the time of capturing the pics. Can you please let me know the solution for this ?

    • Normally, you can simply reboot the phone.

If reboot doesn't solve the problem, you may try to clear cache and clear data for camera app in settings - apps.

You cabn also test the camera with other camera apps, e.g., camera360.

    • You can use any video editors to extract any frames.

You can also play the video, then pause, take screenshot.

You can also copy the video to the PC. Play it with VLC media player, which has the feature to extract frames.

  • When I try to take a photo, the focus circle starts rotating and takes ages to click a photo. It happens like once every 3 times I take a photo. Kindly help with the issue.

      • I've had this problem - I think for me it's been a problem with a dirty lens (finger marks?) stopping the camera from focusing properly. Clean it (a clean/ new microfibre cloth works well) and see if that works better.

    • You just need set flash to auto.

Anyway, if the lighting condition is not good, the photo quality will be not so good as well.

  • it is fine on the phone. It's just a problem when I look at it on my PC. Its sideways and I cannot get it to rotate.

    • Then you probably can use a video editor to rotate the video. Anyway, most players on pc can rotate the view.

  • I turned my camera vertically to record a speaker. When I moved the video to my PC, the video displays horizontally. I need to rotate it for viewing on my PC. Can you tell me how to do that?

    Thanks!

  • i recorded a normal videos and everytime i try to use the slow motion Editting tool its say slow motion edit error .how can i solve this please?

  • Hi,
The photos I take with my moto g front camera automatically rotate after the picture is taken...i.e the left becomes right and right becomes left.what should be done?

    • By default, the front camera always takes photos as mirrored. The camera app in Moto G does not have the option to flip it. Burt you can do this in any photo editing tool.

Some third-party camera apps, e.g., camera360, line camera, allow you to choose mirror or not.

    • There is no special night mode in moto g. If to set flash as auto, the camera will automatically adjust its settings to match the lighting conditions.

  • I can't figure out how to switch back to my camera from video. The icon in the bottom only is showing a recorder and not a camera. I used to be able to press the icon and it would switch back but now it doesn't. Please help

    • You can tap anywhere except the video recording button to take photos.

It's not necessary to switch. There is no such a switch on Moto G. There is no camera button as well.

The camera is always ready for photo and video.

    • The camera app in Moto G doesn't have a timer. You may try camera360 app, which had a timer. Many other third party camera apps have it.

  • Really confused I have the video setting on my camera at present--not sure how or why this is. How do I return to just the ability to take pictures?

    • Tap anywhere except the video button to take photos. When you open camera app, you can either take photos or videos. There is no photo mode or video mode.

The intention of this design is to make it simple and to avoid the operation of switching between the photo mode and video mode.

          • Yes exactly d button seems to have disappeared. I tried everything rebooting, restored to factory settings etc but none seem to work please find a solution

          • You probably have to visit the service center as indicated in the warranty card.

It is probably a hardware issue if factory data reset and updating cannot solve it.

  • even when the screen locked, the phone screen sometimes accidentally slides to left side which automatically put the camera ON even inside my pocket. Is there a way to prevent this as it leads to multiple blank photos in gallery.

    • You can install another camera app, e.g., camera360. The camera app in the widget actually is not linked to the camera app. If you have more than one camera app on the phone, it will ask you to select. But if the phone is locked, you cannot make the selection.

The purpose of the widget is for you to take photos workout unlocking the phone. But it's very easily triggered accidently. Try the workaround if you want to avoid accidental activation.

  • I have got the new phone today......but after clicking in camera nothing is capturing....any problem with my set?

    • you just need touch anywhere on the screen to take a photo. Did you check the Gallery?

You can turn on the shutter sound by pulling out the setting ring from the left side.

  • Hi there. I transferred images to my moto g (running kitkat 4.4.4) recently using a Bluetooth transfer, and now i cannot view them using the gallery app nor the photo app, even though there is a grey silhouette of the images. I am still able to view all my camera roll images and other saved images on my device. Any reason for this discrepancy?

  • Hi,

My moto g camera is saving the image with google photos but I want to save it with phone gallery and there is no option to save image with phone gallery as by mistake i used the feature to save pics with google photos always.

Is there any way to change it, I tried to find the solution but didn't find any. Please help!!

    • First, your photos are ALWAYS saved in your phone under DCIM/camera folder. Photos app only backups your photos to your Google+. You should be able to view photos in both apps.

Gallery and Photos are two apps for managing photos and images on the phone. They do NOT save photos. They scan the whole phone and show you all pictures in your phone.

You can manage files manually with a file manager, e.g., ES file explorer.

If you want to clear defaults for photos app, go to Settings--Apps -Google+, tap clear defaults.

  • Hi is there anyway to change how to take a screenshot? I find holding down the 2 buttons tricky at times.

    • Most screenshot taken apps require root.

If you need take a lot of screenshots from your Moto G, it's better to take them with a pc. What you need is the android sdk and Motorola USB driver in the pc.

  • I quite literally can't switch between front and rear camera. Not on the screen; not on the settings ring; not on whatsapp; not on viber; nor Skype. Not even the camera360 will download..........

  • My front view camera has disappeared!!
    Helpppp!!!
I'm not a selfie obsessive, but Skype convos are proving most difficult!
    Kindest regards,

    Lisa

    • What do you mean disappear? In the setting ring, can you switch front/rear?

You may try Camra360 app to see whether you can switch between the front and rear within that app.

  • when i take a photo by using flash in dark suddenly it changes to red in colour...i dont get clear image...Any sloution for this

  • The picture images have the date/time of the picture within the file name, there appears no recording of the date/time the picture was taken. This means all photos have the same date, in my case 01-12-2011, not very good for loading into other apps like picassa. Is there a way of enabling a date stamp on the images

    • I checked the photos. The taken time is correct. Did you check the details of individual photo in photos or gallery?

  • when I am trying to take any picture from my camera of motog, getting a black line in the middle of screen. cleaned the lens also.still appearing

  • My Moto G camera is set at 16:9. It is supposed to be "switchable" to 4:3, but I can't find the button described in sliding the screen to the riht as mentioned in the online manual...
    Any idea?

  • in my moto g camera one line came in midddle of the picture, how to remove this please tell me, when i click th pic, in that image that line appears i had checked the setting , but didnt get, please help me

    • You may check whether the lens cover is dirty.

If it is clean, and you still get a line in all photos, you probably have to visit local service centre because it could be a hardware issue.

  • I have Moto G with 16GB but when I have checked it from settings >> Storage. It shows the Total space 12.92GB.
    Why?
please give some idea about that as the app and other resources is showing correct.

    • The total space in Moto G means 16GB minus space occupied by system files (OS). The number seems correct. System image size for Moto G is close to 3GB. Motorola also reserve some for future update.

  • How do I change the video to camera mode? Yesterday I had taken some videos and now I m not able to change to camera mode.

    • It is not necessary to switch, just tap anywhere (except the video icon) on the screen to take photos.

  • When I take a photo in flash the photo will turn reddish in color so can you plz tell how to clear these redishnes

    • If the lighting condition is ok, you should avoid flash. Most smartphones' cameras suffer from this issue.

You can try to edit the photo with some apps, e.g., photos app.

You can also try some other camera app to see whether you can get better photos.

        • I don't think there are any easy solution. You probably have to rely on photo editing software to improve the photo.

The flash on most smartphones sucks. Normally, we need avoid to use flash unless the lighting is really bad.

  • Hiii how can I put a timer for taking snaps in moto g......this is very much disa.ppointing.Help me out.

    • There is no timer in the Moto G camera app.

You can try some third-party camera app that has a timer, for example, camera360.

  • I wondered if there was any way of getting a timer on the camera as this is a very handy tool when using the camera especially when you have no hands free or need a family photo could you tell me if it has this feature, if not I highly recommend it

    • The camera app in Moto G does not have a timer. You can install many third-party camera apps with timer, for example, camera360 and line camera.

  • Is there any way to turn off the shutter sound on screenshots? I turned off the shutter sounds in the camera settings but it still sounds on screenshots?

  • Hi, when I take a pictures from moto g with flash, I get the reddish pictures . I was cleared cache, but still have problem.....,.

    • Most middle-range smartphone camera suffers similar issue. I don't think there are any solutions.

  • A good camera always has a self timer but I can't seem to find it on on this phones camera or googles camera?

    • You can try many third-party camera apps with timer, for example, camera360.

Motorola and Google is trying to make it simple and keeps only essential features.

  • Ok - now I got the geo tagging sorted :-) Any idea how to switch back to using Moto Gallery for previews for images. The Photos app takes too long to load.

    • I found it. Go to settings apps, locate Google+. Click on the app, then in the apps settings page click clear defaults.

Now go into the Camera in swipe from right edge to left. This will ask you which application to use. Select Gallery and Always and it will use the gallery app from now on.

  • My motog phone's camera was giving error as camera error frequently. After restarting phone it starts working. But it happens almost every day or more than one time a day. After installing camera update. It gives error as restart your camera and same issue. I also cleared chach data and all. Please help me.

  • Hi again
I got 1 to 2 dots on screen when I open my rear camera. Is it normal to have so? Is it called pixelation?

  • hi. All the pics on my moto g have turned black. when i go to the gallery its all black. how can i fix this i just took grad pics and now i dont have any of them?

    • Copy them to pc to check.

You may also reboot the phone. Sometimes, the issue was just caused by software problems.

By default, all photos are backed up to your Google + unless you disabled it.

  • Geotag seems to have been removed from the interface, and none of my photos are being tagged with location. Rather annoying.

      • Now I found it - I had no idea that you could scroll the fly out menu. Maybe worth mentioning it in the article as it really isn't obvious to everyone. I've had this phone for months and thought I knew it inside out....

  • Hello...sir...How can I pause a video during a video recording...is there any option....???!!!

    • Motorola added the pause button for Moto G camera app in KitKat 4.4.3. Check whether the update is available for you.

Prior to 4.4.3, there is no pause button. You have to use other camera apps if you need the button.

    • Did you try Camera 360? If it does not work either, you probably have to factory reset your Moto G.

  • Hiya I'm loving my MotoG which i have had since b4 Christmas, replacing my nokia N8. & considering that it has less than 1/2 the resolution I'm still happy with the pics most of the time. the only time i have problems is when photographing something red it always over saturates it! any tips??

  • Hello Simon,
On your suggestion I had reset my phone since my camera app was crashing. But even resetting the phone has not been able to solve the issue.what do I do now ?

  • I am unable to change the aspect ratio in my Moto G ....its set to 16:9, when i tap it, it only goes on wide screen on thats it , is there any problem?

    • Moto G camera provides you two aspect ratio 16:9 or 4:3. it seems you get the setting already. Did you find any problems in applying the aspect ratio?

      • Yes , i dont get the option to change the aspect ratio, whenever i tap 16:9 it just activates the Wide screen, i dont even get to see the other aspect ratio to set. Other functions i can access in camera like HDR, Flash, Location, Panaroma, Slow motion , but unable to change the aspect ratio at all, is this how it works in all Moto G?

        • Moto G camera only have two aspect ratios. When you tap the 16:9, it actually toggle between 16:9 and 4:3.You can differ them from the black area in both sides. When in 16:9 mode, no black area.

Most camera in smartphones have only these two aspect ratios.

What missed in Moto G camera is the resolution settings. The camera always shoots in maximum pixels. If you want to use lower resolution, you may try other third party apps, for example, camera 360.

  • Hy.... when I take pics in front camera ... the image gets saved as mirror image....... How to change it to normal......

  • Hey there ! I have an extremely serious and urgent problem with the camera on moto G. The app crashes as soon as I take a photo and also it is stuck in the front camera and the app crashes when I try to shift to the back camera. I have restarted, updated and cleared and rebooted the app and the phone but in vain. What do I do now ? Are there any third party apps to solve this or do I have replace my phone ? Or should I reset my phone ?

    • Backup your data, then perform a factory data reset (settings--backup& reset--factory data reset).

Again, back up your data before resetting because factory reset will erase all your data in Moto G.

  • once uploaded photos to computer is there an easy way to delete all photos off phone or do I have to do 1 at a time? Thanks

  • when i click the images by my moto g it creates the reddishness in the picture........whats that for

  • Hi Simon
My moto g mobile's Wifi sometimes shows full signal but it does not connect to internet. It works after I restart the Wifi again. It happens very often and I'm worried if its a problem with hardware. Is there any way to solve this.

    • When the Moto G cannot connect to Internet, can other devices that connected to the same router connect to Internet?

      • I tried Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos and it worked well at the time of moto g's Wifi failed to connect. It shows the signal bar with full strength but its like in idle state. It works only after restarting the wifi.

        • You may go to Settings--WiFi. Tap menu key (3 vertical dots), tap advanced. Uncheck "avoid poor connections" and uncheck "WiFi Optimization".

  • The slow motion doesn't work on my front facing camera, however it works on the other side. Is that the way the phone is made or should my phone be able to do that?

  • Hey is it possible to change the default camera to the new one that Google made? I really prefer it to the moto camera. So is there a way?

    • Unlike other apps, I don't think you can set default camera on Moto G. What you can do is to replace the camera in your favorite tray and home screen.

  • Is their any default sound recording app in moto g... in my moto g in settings->app->all ,thr is sound recording app bt i cnt find it with my apps.. and i cant record the phone calls too

    • You need install third-party voice recorder. The one you saw is for Motorola apps/functions.

In some regions, recording phone calls may be illegal. You need use some third-party apps to do it. Most of them need rooted moto g.

  • I recorded something in slow motion accidentally and also for some reason, there is no volume. I figured out how to play it at regular speed but still no volume. Any suggestions for getting volume on the recording?

  • My Moto G has an issue where the camera comes on (still or sometimes video) while the phone is in my pocket and the screen locked. I took 8 pictures of the inside of my pocket plus 2 videos. How is that happening with the phone locked?

    • In Moto G (and other Nexus devices), you can take photos without unlock the phone. In the lock screen, if you scroll left, you will get the camera.

Unfortunately, this feature cannot be disabled, as I know.

    • The usable space is about 12gb. You may have some apps and a few other files. You may end up with maximum about 8gb for your photos.

Each photo is about 1mb. So, you can save a few thousands photos.

If course, you can always move your photos to pc or cloud storage of your storage is low.

Please note, videos will take far more space.

  • Silly question but does the video camera only video in slow motion? Is there no regularcspeed option?

    • Some video players allow this. In your pc, vlc player can do this easily.

Most video editors also can extract individual frames.

  • I would love to know how you get your videos to be upright once you transfer them from your phone to your computer they show up sideways, I can't figure it out Please help! Thanks

  • The front camera of my phone has b/w as it's default colour setting. Is there anyway I can change the settings myself?

  • While swiping right to left on camera screen it asked if i wanted to view pics on gallery or by google photos named some app..by mistake i chose that the pics to always open by that google photo app..i want to view the photos by gallery app..how to change this setting now?..

  • Why is my front camera always very dark? Only when I am next to light is when it isn't

    • The front camera needs good lighting conditions. It is also slow. So, you need hold it a while so that it can fully adjust to the environment.

  • I need to know how to change the default app to see the images which captured by camera. Earlier when I capture a picture and do right swipe, show option to choose to see the captured image. I set Google Photo app as a default application. So It is possible to revert back the default app to see images. I already clear data of Camera application but now worked.

  • Quite simply my previous phone an Expedia could be set with a ten second delay on the camera which I cannot seem to do with this Motorola mobile I have now .this feature was helpful and allowed me to use my camera on more occasions to get better pictures

    • Motorola removed a lot of useful features for camera in Moto G (and Moto X) to make it extremely simple to use for first-time smartphone users.

But this annoys a lot of users as well.

Anyway, if you need a timer for your Moto G camera, you have to use third-party camera apps, e.g., camera360.

  • Can you please help me on how to take photo in HDR Mode? I tried a few times but end up with lots of photos in series,
please guide me in step by step
    thanks in advance

    • You need tap HDR button/icon in the dial in the left side, then take picture as normal in your Moto G.

You get many photos very likely because you touch and hold the screen. This will make your camera in burst mode and it will take multiple shots.

  • I am not able to pause in the video camera. Please help. I hav tried in many ways. But not at all working...

    • The pause feature is not available in the camera app. You can stop the recording and combine the clips later with a video editing tool.

  • Hi when the phone is in locked state, we can still take snaps. How to control it or any child locking tools do you suggest? I have tried an applock app for restricting the camera from working. But my kid is intelligent enough to figure out a tweak to it by clicking volume button also we can take snaps even the camera app is locked with locking app. Can you please suggest any solution.

    • You cannot disable it in KitKat because it is not a widget.

But you can install another camera app from Play store (e.g., camera360), then next time, it will ask which camera app to use. To proceed, you need provide unlock the phone.

Anyway, for parental control, you can try some apps, e.g., kids place.

  • Simon,
Have had my Moto G about a month and used camera to take photos for contacts.Saved about a dozen pics but now when l take image phone not allowing me to save pics to contacts.Above the image in gallery it says Done and will not allow me to crop and save image. Any thoughts many thanks
    Patrick

  • Hi
I have taken videos in portrait position but when I play them back on my computer they are rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise on the screen. Is there any way to rotate them back upright?
    Thanks
    Michelle

    • Most video players can rotate the display. You can use any video editor to fix the orientation.

Anyway, in Moto G, it is assumed the camera is in landscape orientation.

  • How to remove an icon when v see photos we have share photo icon after selecting it the icon of the app remains beside it how to remove that icon?? Plzz help

    • After you navigate away, it should disappear.

I'm assume you are talking about gallery app. Did you refer to something else.

  • I m not able to see my old photos in gallery.photos appearing with a black mark.pls suggest what to do.

    • You can try to connect the phone to your pc using the USB cable , then check the files from pc. Sometimes, a reboot may help as well.

        • Then very likely, the files are corrupted.

Next time, you may turn on t auto-backup in Google+. You probably should choose WiFi only to avoid mobile data usage.

  • Hey Simon,

Whenever I take a photo from front Camera, it is coming as a mirror image .. . hope u understand my concern . .please help me out from this. .:(

    • Did you check the photo? The screen (view finder) for front camera is designed as mirrored. But the photo taken should be normal.

If not, you can try to clear cache and clear data for the camera app.

      • Hi,

I checked d photo , it is resulting as mirror image. . . I mean when I take photo of myself it is coming In opposite position. . . if I take from right side position the PIC will look like left side position. . . I cleared d cache also. . please help me , is the any settings that I need to change?

If I use other Camera app like Camera 360 the photo coming normal .. .

        • Unfortunately, Motorola camera app does not give such settings. For existing photos, you can edit by mirroring it again in any photo editing apps.

So, for selfie, you can use camera360, which is better than the stock camera app.

  • i want to know that does moto g camera outside glass is scratch resistance as main screen (corning gorilla glass) ?

    • No, there is no timer in Moto G camera app. You can try third-party camera app, e.g., camera 360.

  • How can we set timer in Moto G to auto click????
I have tried all options & helps also goggled for this information, but i was not successful.
Is there any solution for it; by any kind of download

    • Moto G camera doesn't have a timer. You can try some third-party camera app, for example, camera360.

  • When the phone is locked and just in my pocket it takes pictures all the time. This option has probably been added to have easy and rapid access to the camera but it doesn't work for me. Can the camera option be switched off when phone is locked?

      • No, this is an issue with the Moto G: If you're using the camera app and press the power button, the phone sleeps, But, you can wake it with just the power button (i.e. you don't need to swipe to unlock). Try it.

So, if you last used your phone to take a picture, put the phone in your pocket, the power button can easily be pressed accidentally and you'll start taking pictures without realizing. (The volume down key takes pictures when it's pressed). This happens to me often!

  • can we customize moto g without any third party launchers, means can we change font, can we minimize the num. of home screens & all & main thing can we keep separate wallpapers for lock screen & main screen ????????????

  • Moto g camera initialization error have done clear cache thing still not working
Even reset the phone still not work

    • If factory reset doesn't work, you'd better send the phone to the local service center for a check.

  • How to zoom image in Moto g..in my phone only triple tapping on the screen makes the picture zoom. Can any setting be changed so that double tap will let me zoom the picture?

    • Pinch to zoom (touch the screen with two fingers and then drag them apart) should always work.

In my Moto G, double-tap also zooms in.

  • I have no am not able to get audio in slow motion recording in my moto g.
    what should I do?

    • When recording the video, you have no option to control the audio for the video. It is always recorded.

If you just need audio, you can use voice recorder for audio recording. If you cannot find the app in your Moto G, you can try to get a free one from play store.

      • I want call recorder for my MOTO G. I tried downloading from google play store. downloaded one but not worked at all. I uninstalled it. How can I get call recorder and where from? Pls advise.

  • when i try to take video the camera stops and it shows and error as "Unfortunately camera has stopped".Then i need to restart the phone to set to normal and then it works. Even when i play videos taken it shows "video cannot be played"..
what is the problem and how to fix it?

    • The camera issue is very likely due to other apps or insufficient ram. You can install Greenify (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify) to force inactive apps to close. You can use widget to quickly closer all apps in the list. Please follow the instructions of the app.

For playing videos, if the video was taken with Moto G camera, you should be able to play it. If the video is from other sources, the format may be not support. Anyway, you can always install some third-party video player, e.g., MX Player.

  • How to pause video recording in moto g means i want to pause my recording and continue what i have to do i dint get any optn.

    • Motorola does not provide the pause options for video recording in Moto G.

You can use any video editing tools to combine the multiple videos into one.

      • k thanx. one more issue that can we clear the data counter, i mean to say i want to clear all data counter to 0

        • You can move the photos, then go to Settings--apps--Camera, clear cache and clear data. Please note, this will reset your camera settings.

  • At times when I open my camera on my moto g 16gb phone...it shows camera error... why is this so...n how to rectify...this has been number of times within a month of using it.

    • You may try to check (Google play) whether there are any updates for the camera.

You can also try to reboot (restart) your Moto G. If an app keeps crashing, you should reboot you phone.

  • There are several options none say anything about switching back to the camera mode.
?? Am I moss reading one?

  • Hi, silly question. Somehow my camera icon switched to video. How do I switch it back to camera?

  • Hello,

My problem here is when I click a picture and swipe right to view it I'm able to see the picture in Google photos but not in gallery... I changed the setting initially to photos. So now how do I change the settings back to gallery???

    Please help me on this!

    • You can go to settings - apps and locate photos app. Then tap clear defaults.

If your Moto G was upgraded to kitkat, you can manage default apps under settings. (it may be not available in some regions)

      • Hi Simon
Thanks for such a value able informations,
Regarding changing default program viewer in Camera, you told to clear default for Photo app under setting and apps.
I am using Moto g with Kitkat4.4.2 but not able to find Photo app or google photo app pls help

        Vikas

        • It should be Google+. But you can quickly reset the default apps at settings--App, tap menu key (3 vertical dots). tap reset app preferences.

You can install any clear /reset defaults app.

          • Thanks Simon
I had did the same and it has solved the it but It has reset the defaults for all the applications.
But how come there is no app in all for Photos

    • You may try to reboot your Moto G to see whether the problem persists.

If the problem is still there, you can then try to clear cache and clear data for you camera app (settings – apps).

  • My front camera option disapeard on every camera app even the built in camera. I've tried restarting my phone and everything.

      • my phone has d same prob. it does not work after clearing cache n clearing data. s there any other solution?

        • You may try to backup your data, and perform a factory reset.

You may also try to visit local Motorola service center.

  • Hi my camera is not working..when I go to use it it cones up with a message box..camera error..help!

    • No, the option is not available. You can use tap to focus which partially eliminates the necessity of the grid lines.

  • i think use third party camera app so you can change res
i used camera360 and it can change the res of camera
open app - setting- advance setting - photo setting - photo size
where you can change size to 5mp, 4mp, 3mp,2mp and 1mp
    easy :-)

  • Hey! Thanks for all the guidance. But how do we change the default settings for viewing our video? (i.e. Movies/Gallery)

    • You can install a third-party player, and the can set it as default player for certain video types.

Most players also scan the storage automatically, so you can play the supported videos inside the app.

  • Moto G photos seem to have a lot of in-camera smoothing. Finer details seem to be missing. In lower light, Curtains and carpets take on the texture of paper. Reminds me of an old Sony digital camera I had. I've also done lots of Photshop work, ans the Moto G's pictures look like I applied too much smoothing.

Can someone look into backing off the smoothing in the next update? More details would be preserved and you can apply smoothing or sharpening after, if you want.

    • You can try some third-party camera apps, which usually have more controls, for example, camera360.

Motorola tried to make Moto G camera settings so simple so that users just press the button to take a nice picture. But it seems it was overdone.

      • I agree with the overdone part. If the original photo is smoothed to the point of losing detail, you can't get it back by sharpening. On the other hand, turning down the smoothing factor may result in more grain. And that's the issue I see in lower light conditions.

I can't expect too much from the camera on a $100 phone, so my comments are more a suggestion than a complaint.

  • What is the green line across the top of the screen whon I take photos on moto g? Can I remove this.

    • Moto G camera has HDR, which usually can give reasonable quality of photos under sunlight, especially when the sun is behind the person.

Moto G's camera is excellent for its price. Of course, it may be not as good as that in Sony Xperia Z1 or LG G2.

      • But i just want to know that the Moto g camera is better than Samsung Core Duos,Micromax Canvas 2,Micromax Canvas HD,Nokia Lumia 520 and Samsung Galaxy Core I8262?
Because these above phone also have same price list and camera.

        • For the phone itself, Moto G probably is far better than the models you mentioned.

But for camera, it is too subjective.

I think you can go to the local shop to test Moto G, which is available in many countries now.

    • You can use flash in low light conditions. The photo quality usually is not good under low light conditions, just like other smartphones or point-and-shot cameras.

To get a HD picture (1280*720), you can take photo as normal, then view the photo in Gallery. Taking a screenshot then will give you the 1280*720 photo.

  • Hi, good news but how can i change video/photo resolution?
My Moto G 8gb has only 1gb free and every (little) video is 100/200mb every time.. :-((

    • Unfortunately, Moto G does NOT allow you to change the resolution. The photo is always 5MP (at 4:3 ) or 3.8 MP (at 16:9). For photos you can only change the ration (4:3, default, or 16:9) The video is always 720p.

I will update this page to add such info.
