Meaning of Moto G notification icons

In the Moto G status bar, there are always a few icons depending on the features or apps you are using.

Normally, in the top left, there are notification icons. You usually get the corresponding notification messages.

In the top right, there are status icons. These icons indicates the system status, e.g., mobile network signal strength, WiFi status, battery level…

In this guide, to make it simple, we use notification icons or status icons to include all icons.

Most of the Moto G notification icons are straightforward for experienced Android users. But for new users, especially those who just switch to smartphones, occasionally, it is a bit difficult to under stand the meaning of these Moto G notification icons.

This Moto G  how-to guide  lists the most commonly encountered Moto G notification icons, and their meaning.

  Google Hangouts notification. When new SMS, MMS, or Hangout message/notification comes, you will see this notification icon.

 

 Screen lock is enabled.

 

  A trusted device is connected to your Moto G. This is a special feature in Moto G  (and Moto X).

 

 There is one (or more) missed call.

 

  A new voicemail  is arrived for your Moto G.

 

   Moto Care  help tips for Moto G. You can enable disable such notifications through Settings — Motorola Privacy — and turning on/off Moto Care. Once enabled, you can select what tips are shown

  Google Play music is on.

 

Protect your phone. Once enabled, you can locate, lock, and even wipe your phone when you link it to a Google account and sign in at www.motorola.com/support. If you cleared this Moto G notification icon during initial settings, you can re-enable it through Settings–Security–Device Administrators. Then activate Motorola Device Policy.

  Moto G notification icon when alarm is active.

 

  Something wrong with your Moto G when you see this Moto G notification icon.

 

Airplane mode is activated. Once you see this Moto G notification icon, your Moto G is disconnected from mobile network (no calls, no SMS, no mobile data). However, you can manually enable WiFi.

 

WiFi network in range, but your Moto G is NOT connected to any of them.

 

 Mobile network signal strength. The bars in the icon indicate stronger signal. If the signal is too weak, the voice quality will degrade, and Moto G will consume more battery.

 

 Battery is being charged.  This Moto G notification icon appears when you connect Moto G to a charger. You’d better wait till the phone is fully charged before  disconnecting from the charger. If you have any battery issue, you may check this guide on solving battery issues

(it is for Moto X, but it works for Moto G as well).

 

Your Moto G is successfully connected to a WiFi network.

 

 Emergency mode. This Moto G notification icon appears only when your Moto G is in emergency mode. Your Moto G cannot connect to the designated mobile network. If your Moto G enters this mode for no reasons, you can try to reboot your phone.

No SIM card. You need insert a SIM card or, the inserted SIM card is not valid. Please check this page on correct SIM card for Moto G and how to insert SIM card into Moto G.

 

Bluetooth is enabled, but your Moto G is not paired with any devcies.

 

Bluetooth is in use. When your Moto G is paired with any Bluetooth devices, Moto G will display this notification icon. Please check this guide on how to use Bluetooth to transfer files between Moto g and other devices.

Vibration mode is on. Check Moto G how-to guide on how to enter this silent mode.

 

 Silent mode is on. Check Moto G how-to guide on how to enter this silent mode.

 

Sleeping mode is activated in Motorola Assist.  Moto G will automatically silence all notifications during the hours you normally sleep, except for certain callers.

 

Meeting mode is activated in Motorola Assist. Moto G will check your calendar for events with others and helps you avoid interruptions during meetings.

 

Driving mode is activated  in Motorola Assist. Moto G will measures your speed to detect if you are driving and help you stay focused by going hands-free and automatically playing your favorite music while driving.

One or more Google Play Store apps were updated on Moto G.

GPS is active.

 

No interruption. You can change the settings in Settings—Sound and Notifications–-Interruptions— When calls and notifications arrive,

  • I have the same problem. It covers my icons and the whole bottom of my keyboard while I'm trying to type. It lasts way too long!!

    • What did you get if yous swipe down twice from the top of the screen? You can restart the phone to check again.

  • How to remove hand gesture with 3 stars in the home screen it is quiet irritating and I am not able to fix it Please help.

    • Not sure about what you are referring to. For Motorola-related gestures, you can disable them in the Moto app.

  • why don't you give meaning of icons and what they do? I have a g1 and no instructions in hand book and can't find out what does what. not everybody knows about smart telephones. why not give a guide to your customers? there is nowhere to find this information out and the help line for Motorola is a premium cost number , WHAT A RIP OFF!

  • How do we change the color of the white icons on the status bar at the top of the Moto G Stylus 2021? Our favorite background has a white top which makes the white status bar icons disappear.

  • When I save a contact, for instance, I get an oval at the bottom of the screen that says "contact saved" (or whatever). It stays for FIVE minutes and i can't see any of what Is under it, and I can't dismiss it. Can you help me fix this?

    • Did you check whether the contact is saved?

      The heads-up notification normally disappears in a few seconds. Anyway, you can always tap the Home button (or swipe to home if you are using navigation gestures) to exit.

    • It usually means there are more notification icons that are not shown (like this). But in Stock Android or Moto phones, you cannot customize it.

  • I have a MotoG 5G. I have an icon in the top right next to Wifi that comes on that looks life a telephone handset at a 45deg angle and a triangle above it. WTF is it ? Tried MotoG 5G manual, Google, nothing. Help!

  • I have a moto g power I've had the phone for a while and all sudden I have three random icons pop up on my screen at all times they are +: in a circle they are black with blue I just want to get rid of them of the screen because it renders half the phone useless

    • Malware? You=may share a screenshot on our Facebook page so that others can see it clearly.

      Anyway, if it persists, you should back up your data, and perform a factory data reset.

    • No internet connection from the WiFi. Your phone is connected to the WiFi, but the phone cannot access the internet.

  • Can someone please tell me why there is a blue star beside a contacts name also if a contact is rung does their name automatically go to to of page I rang someone by mistake and don't know who that was

    • The blue star means you set the contact as a favourite. In the phone app, you have a dedicated favourites tab for you to reach them quickly.

      The displayed name of a caller is always set by your contacts app (if the number is saved in your contacts). For example, if you name someone a Prince in the Contacts app, then the phone will notify you the Prince is calling you. The same is for the other end. Someone may name you King, so, when you call him, his phone will notify King is calling him.

  • The temperature display on the upper left of the phone is for an incorrect location. How do i change this?

    • Does it happen to a few apps (e.g., Camera app)?

      If yes, it means the app is in the full-screen mode. You can tap anywhere on the screen to call out the status bar. You can also swipe down from the top of the screen to call out quick settings (and status bar).

  • On my Motorola G4 My notification icons have turned Black how do i get them back to White.
    Difficult to see them in black.

    • Very likely, you turned on invert colours. By default, you can find the button in quick settings panel (swipe down twice from the top of the screen) to see all quick setting buttons.

      You can also enable/disable it in Settings —Accessibility — Color inversion.

  • There is a symbol on my phone I can't figure out is tequila can symbol right beside my Wi-Fi network symbol on the right hand side of the screen it looks almost like a AF without the top bar with a full circle around the bottom of it I can't get the screenshot to stay here for some reason

    • You can share the screenshot on our Facebook page. It is hard to guess what the icon is based on the description.

  • Hello! There is a solid white circle that appears briefly in the u.l.h. corner to the right of the time, on my Moto g7 supra. What is it? Thank you!

    • If it only appears briefly, then disappears, it usually doesn't matter.

      If you can share the screenshot when you see the icon, others can help you find out the meaning.

  • Hi, there’s a notification icon I’ve noticed in someone’s screenshots that never leaves, just shifts around depending on how many app notification there are. It’s a cell phone with a refresh symbol (I believe) on the center right side of cell. I have searched and done reverse image and cannot find it. I’m at a loss.

    • On which phone? Different brands of Android phones, different Android versions, or even in different regions, the icons can be different. Why do you want to see the icon?

  • There is a status icon on my G6 plus that I don't recognise. It's a solid square, with a stylised N inside.

  • For myself, and my Moto g4 play, the only way I can, (without Bluetooth pairing) transfer, send, any contact information, ie., All contact info needing sent to anywhere, from contacts in phone, i found, is to go to contact, and get all the info you need on screen, you may have to do it twice, depending on amount in contact info the screen can hold at one time, and take a screen pic. Press power button and volume down at same time, for each screen of info needing to send off, for roughly one second. You'll see a flash for each screen pic taken, then look at top of phone screen in notification bar, left side usually, you'll see a pic notice,. You can pull down from to of screen with one finger, tap area stating screen pic, touch it, upload to photos, or share anywhere basically, instantly, once you choose app being used to send through, or share with. Ie., Contacts, messages, messenger, FB, Gmail, just choose direction, or person in contacts to send it to. Screen pics are great, you can get a picture, hold or send, any of them from any app your currently on, weather, Google, Gmail, any so you use, anytime you need to save what's on your screen, power and volume down button at same time for a second, boom! It's saved. Go to it later, hold forever, send whenever, wherever, to whomever you want. It's great, hopefully not too much explanation, I like to be thorough, and repeat "in short" general explanations, never hurts. Peace

  • I am on Consumer Cellular through the AT&T network. Ever since I got my new Moto G6, the notification icon for an existing voicemails does not show. Voicemail messages can be accessed, just no notification. I've tried troubleshooting through Consumer Cellular who tried everything and said they were turning it over to AT&T, but AT&T have done nothing. I see by Googling that no notification icon for voicemail is a problem many people are having. Is there a solution?

    • Voicemail notification depends on the settings of carrier's voicemail server.

      But normally, if notification is not pushed to the voicemail app, most carriers would send a text message.

      Can you get voicemail notification on old devices?

  • My Moto G4 wakes up with the Banner "Auto-Connect is on" when I activate it from a sleep. The oval banner is placed on top of everything on my screen and remains in place if I change screens or applications. The most annoying part is that it remains in place over my Gboard keyboard, so I can not reply to emails until it eventually fades away. Often I can get it to disappear with a downward swipe and "Clear All". I posted an earlier version of this message before but the reply button does not work, so I am reposing this more detailed message

  • I have a Moto G4 and a banner appears saying "Auto-Connect is ON" . It hovers over my keyboard so that I can not type. Eventually it vanishes and I can proceed. How can I turn it off

    • Do you get it whenever you try to use the keyboard? Or whenever you use a specific app? Are you using the default Google keyboard, or a third party keyboard?

  • Hello - I have a Moto G6 (International version) - have trouble connecting to "public wifi" many times. the phone finds the networks - seems to "log in" however my "wifi symbol" has a small X in the bottom right corner and I have no connection - works fine on "private" wifi but not the open public ones like tim hortons - mcdonalds -walmart and such. this problem seems to have started after I installed "showbox" - removing it made no difference - would like to clean the cache and avoid a "factory reset" as I am using the sd card as "extended memory" and a number of my apps run from it and a factory re-set may mean I have to re-install everything as backup/restore may not handle this ? ANY AND ALL help about the wifi would be appreciated. THANKS

    • Can you get the login page for the public WiFi? The x means connected, but no internet connection.

      You can also just reset network settings (not factory data reset) if it's caused by network settings.

  • Hey, at the top left of my Moto I have what looks like a keyboard in 8 lines of do. They're inbetwein my 2 weather and temp notifications. Nothing shows when I pull the bar down. Anyone know what that is?

    I have a Moto G2 4 yrs old , i am just wondering how to lock the Moto G status bar when you scroll it form top which has display , wifi , sim etc.., the thing is if kids takes the phone and put it airplane mode then i wont get any calls , i have seen this function in Redmi latest phone , it asks for pin before you change the task bar icons. Do we have any setting in the phone or in Android version 6.0.

    • Nope, it is not a standard Android feature.

      If you give the phone to kids temporally, you may have at least two solutions:
      1. lock the phone to a specific app by screen pinning as explained in this guide. Kids can only use the app until you unpin it (with lock screen password)
      2). set up a new user for kids on the phone as explained in this guide.

  • Hi..My phone (Moto g4+) hanged with the symbol of yellow rectangle with ! Symbol...I can't even switch on my Mobile..

    • Hold volume down key, without releasing it, then hold power key for more than 7 seconds (holding two keys). The phone should restart.

  • Hi there im new too smartphones and I'm not sure what has happened. I'm using a moto g2nd generation and I am experiencing quite a few issues I have lost my pull down quick settings I have also lost incoming calls too and I have lost my phone's keypad Lock its switched on but not responding also on Google play I can't download it just keeps saying pending.I have tried the clear cache clear data In the g.play app >settings>I am also having problem's with Google chrome update and that just keeps pending too I've reset my phone also put it in safe mode and tried clear cache in that on Google too I've reset my email account and this didn't do anything neither. If some one can help I would be very grateful.

    • Without seeing the phone, it is hard to guess what is the cause.

      For Google Play store issue, are you using mobile data or WiFi? can you search apps in Play store app?

      Also, if you reset the phone, do not change the default settings before you try it on Play store.

    • If the icon is in the lets side of the status bar, it is usually a notification icon. You can find the corresponding notifications in the notification panel.

  • Cross sign is coming on network BT the data is on and it's working then why this sign is coming on both networks..

    • Did you turn off notification on lock screen? You can choose types of notifications that are allowed on lock screen.

  • I mistakenly dismissed my sd card notification ... how do I get it back? .. or create a shortcut to it on home screen?

    • Why do you need the notification? You can find all functions in settings - storage & USB.

      One way to get the notification again is to reboot the phone.

      You will also get the notification again if you unmount (eject) SD card in settings - storage & USB, them mount it again.

    • Not sure what type of display your are referring to. Notifications are always in the notification shade. Do you mean pop-out display?

    AM using MOTO G4 Plus mobile from past 2 months, I found there will be busy symbol "!" near network symbol. If it is there i cant able to access internet. once i reset SIM ON and OFF then it will work fine for another 10-15 min again same busy symbol problem. Am using Airtel 4G Plan, and network is good and am putup in Bangalore, no network problem. Please help me to solve the problem

    • ! means internet connection is not available. You may check with your carrier whether the APN settings are correct.

      Also, you can try to turn on sync without turning on power saving to see whether it helps.

  • Hi , all I need to know is that ..how I can get notified about calls while I am busy with some other call , because there is no notification about calls so there is a large problem.

    • This depends on your carrier.

      You can open Phone app, tap the menu key (3 vertical dots, next to the mic in the search bar), tap settings-- calls---additional settings. You can check whether you can turn on call waiting. If you cannot turn on, it means your carrier does not support this feature. But most carriers have this feature.

  • Hi there, I loved my Moto Gen 3 but am tearing my hair out now. My quick settings bar is gone, my pull down notifications always say "no notifications" so I have to check every single app and now my apps and chrome tabs don't appear anymore either. Literally, I have to backspace out of everything I'm in, back to hone screen, then open next app, which I can never shut down!
    To top it all off, my phone never rings, it always goes straight to voicemail and I've checked all the settings, it's definitely set to ring, volume and tone all set and working.
    I've cleared up my phone so there's plenty of space.
    Please help or this phone is going in the bin!

  • I am using moto g 2nd gen mobile... there is problem with my cell is all incoming call are blocked and i m not able to receive any call. plz suggest me how to unblock it, i have checked all the settings by my side. Also on home screen i m not getting any notification, recently while swiping it is showing no notification , only gets sound when there is any messages ..

    • Can you make calls? What will the other party get when calling you?

      What do you get if swiping down form top of the screen (status bar)?

      • I am having the same problem as the 1st commenter. I cannot get any calls either. It goes straight to voice-mail. I can send calls out but cannot receive any.

          The problem usually only happens after an interrupted update.

  • There is a G on my status bar. When I touch it, nothing happens. What does it mean? Also my camera doesn't work at all anymore. It says its busy. How do I fix it? Mine is a moto x.

    • For the G icon, if it's in the left side, very likely, it's the new Google Now notification icon. If it's in the fight side near to signal strength, then it's very likely GPRS data connection.

      For camera, you can try to reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

  • Hi - I have a strange issue with my Moto G3 when the flip cover is closed. The phone vibrates only once when I get a call although the ring continues. When the flip cover is open (or when I remove the flip cover), it behaves fine ..meaning, the phone vibrates continuously and also the ring tone continues when I get a call. So any idea why the phone vibrates only once when the flip cover is on?

  • Hello Simon, I have an icon that appeared over night. It is a white circle with a minus sign in the middle. Can you please tell me what this means?

    Also how can I copy the body of a tex message to paste it in a new message? Long touch just gives me the option to forward or delete the message.

    • the white circle with - inside is Downtime (i.e. do not disturb). You can check the settings for it in Settings--Sound & Notification --Interruptions.

      If you tap and hold the text area of the message, you should get Messages options, which include Copy text, Forward, Lock, View details and Delete. Are you using the default Messaging app?

  • Hi Simon, I received my moto g3 yesterday. Am still exploring. Have two questions for you please
    1. My earlier Lenovo S850 had a screen lock icon on home screen. Can I have same on Moto G3? Dont want to use power button too often.
    2. On Home screen above, near the signal strenghth, I get a "H" icon, sometimes it changes to "3G" but its mostly "H". What does it indicate?

    • For 1, you can use some apps to instantly turn off screen without using power button. For example, you can try this one.
      2. H means HSPA, which is faster than 3G. Some carriers may refer it as 3.5G. This page has a bit more info on 3G, H, H+, 4G and LTE.

  • Hi, I have recently bought Moto G3 and have 2 irritating issues:
    1. When I receive a new message (SMS) there comes either a sound or vibration (depending on settings), but screen doesn't flash/turn on. So when it's loud I don't even see any sign of incoming message - any chance to make the screen light-up/turn on to let me know I have a new meessage?
    2. When the sound for incoming messages/calls is on, the phone doesn't vibrate. Is there an option to enable both - sound and vibration for message/calls?

    • 1. You need third party apps to light up screen when you have a notification. Are you sure you need this?
      2. Notification tone and vibrate settings are independent once notification is on. You can turn both on.
      3. For calls, Vibrate when ringing is under settings- sound and notification.

        Screen notification comes up, just the screen doesn't seem to light up as much as I would like, but as long as I have 3 ways of notification (sound+vibration+screen showing "some" notification) - all is fine.

  • With my new Moto G (2015), when I try to connect to a non-password protected guest wifi network that has one of those web portal pages where you have to read some sort of acceptable use policy and click , it always overlays the page with a large padlock inside a red "slashed" circle. If I hit the back button, I briefly see the page I want, but then this image immediately pops back up so fast I can't click the OK button and get connected. How can I get it to stop doing this so I can get past the portal and connect ?

    • Not sure what exactly happened. Very likely it's a pop-up from there browser due to the old scripts used by the IT.

      you can try to install another browser, e.g., Firefox and try this new browser.

  • Hi, I have bought MotoG3 recently. I am not finding method to set pulse notification(which was visible for selection in MotoG2) so that I get white/Red light only when any message comes (WhatsApp or SMS). Please help how to set. I am not interested to get sound notification in these cases.

      Its just one day after I purchase moto g 3, and in notification bar the icons are overlapping, i've restarted the phone also tried safe mode but the same is still there...pls suggest what to do regarding the overlapping of the icons

  • I have recently bought moto g 3.The battery notifications are not shown.Previusly it was showing that battery is 'fully charged.unplug' or when i plugged it it showed in notificaion that 'phone is charging'.But somehow its not giving any battery related notifications now,even when the phone is fully charged.please help!

    • When the phone is being charged, do you have the message telling you it is being charged and how long it will take?

    While travelling or when the phone is in my pocket I lock the screen using a PIN. Then, once home or in the office I unlock it and use the option NONE.
    However, of late the NONE option is missing and I see the SWIPE mode on the top of the list.......I am comfortable with NONE.
    How do I get that back?

    • If you install any security software, remove them.

      Is it grayed out? Normally, None and Swipe are in the same category. If one is grayed, the other should also be grayed out.

      can you tap Settings--Security--clear credentials? Then try again.

  • (Moto G 3rd Gen) Hi! In my signal bar I am getting and exclamation mark there both sim not working mobile data

    • The exclamation mark means no internet connection or slow/unstable internet connection.

      Is mobile data enabled on the sim card? Did you enable mobile data on the phone and assign a card for mobile data?

      Anyway, you can remove one card and test whether it works with one sim card.

  • We have two Moto G Ext phones. We are seeing an exclamation point next to both the signal strength and wifi status icons. I see above this is indicating a problem with the phone, but is that different if it is associated with these icons? We can turn the phone off and then on to clear the exclamation points, but then they just come back again. What do you suggest? Thank you.

    • The exclamation mark just reminds you the network is enabled, but there is no outgoing connection or the connection quality is not good. Of course, the phone can be wrong in some cases.

      Do you have any issues with the phone?

        • What kind of triangle? You may take a screenshot and share it on Facebook page so that others can see it.

  • Reason:
    1. Probably you are using moto g with lollipop (Android 5.0)
    2. Your star Icon is Displyed in top notification area due to (mistakenly) selection of PRIORITY option

    Steps to remove (get rid of) it:

    - Press your volume key (up or down)
    - You can notice 3 text's "NONE PRIORITY ALL"
    Solution: CHange it to ALL (Star Icon from notification area shall disappeare)

        • 1. Settings--sound & notification--app notifications. Make sure Messaging and Google play music are NOT blocked.
          2. Inside Messaging app, tap menu key (3 dots in top right)--Settings, make sure Notification is checked.

    • If you don't trust the people, you should not share your phone with him.

      You can turn off message in lock screen in Settings-Sound &notification --When device is locked. Once the phone is unlocked, it means you are using the phone.

      You can also create guest user or add other users if you want to share the phone, but you need hide your contents. Anyway, you should share the phone with person you trust.

    • Notification for emails? You can enable notifications for each account inside email app or Gmail app. Did you get any problems to enable notifications on email app or Gmail app?

    • If Moto G doesn't respond to power button, you can press and hold volume up button, without releasing volume up button, press and hold power button.

    • Do you get notifications from other apps? Did you turn off notification for messages?

      Inside messaging app, tap menu key (3 vertical dots), then tap settings. Make sure notification is checked and the sound is valid.

      Also in Settings--Apps--All--Messaging, make sure Show notifications is checked.

  • i always see NO SIM card - not sure how can i fix it ? i read on some blogs it is moto g issue which keep failing on change of SIM...i generally use prepaid service and change sim card too often for work...will moto g cover this under its warranty - i just bought it last yr around march/april 2014 from motorola.

    • You should turn off Moto G, wait a few mins, then turn on the phone. In this way, the new SIM card can be detected.

      The no SIM card error actually is mainly caused by the connector. You need insert the SIM card tightly. Also, do not trim the SIM card yourself; try to get an official Micro SIM card.

    • You need enable OK Google on all screens in Google Settings oe follow the tap in trusted voices. This requires you to speak OK Google a few times to get your voice recognized.

  • All my text has decide to move to the right so it is all alligned to the right. How do I get this back to the left? When I view it it is on the left when I send it moves to the right.
    ALSO all my messages are grey in my inbox so there is no differentiation between my messages and those coming in. On all my other phones there are two different colours. It is the same on my husbands phone also. Feeling a bit disappointed.

      • The voicemail notification icon should show only when you get a new voicemail. It's actually controlled by your carrier as voicemail box is located in your carrier's server, not on your phone.

    • The messaging icons in Moto G are identical to that in Moto X. I am not sure what difference you are referring to.

        • I don't think it will be automatically on if you turn if off.

          You should turn off developer option (instead of individual item) after using.

  • I have a problem with moto g. I have upgraded my moto g to lollipop and it work fine for 3months . Recently there was a star symbol suddenly appeared on my phone and I have browsed and found out that it was set to priority mode and I changed it. But after the star symbol has gone(I mean after removing priority interruption) now no msg alert no missed call alert no notification alert is showing. There is only some sound if there is notification or msg or Whatsapp msg. I need to go through recent calls, msgs and whatsapp to check for any new alerts. Pls provide me solution to this problem.     • You probably changed more than what you thought.

      Is it in All mode now? Did you enable downtime settings ?

  • Since updating to Android 5.0.2 I get an exclamation mark next to wifi and signal notifications which disappears when I power off/on. This did not happen prior to the upgrade.

    • The exclamation mark next to signal strength indicates mobile data is disabled or not available.

      The exclamation mark next to wifi icon indicates the internet connection is not stable or not available. But you can ignore it if you can access internet.

  • On my moto g, I get app notifications that appear on the lock screen, they only display half the message and as soon as I click on the message it takes me to the app itself and I never get to read the message. How do I open these notifications?

    • it depends on the app. Some apps does not keep notifications inside the app.

      You can unlock the phone, and read the notification in notification panel.

  • WiFi icon is completely lit up.... But the mobile network icon is all gray and there's a small triangle above it. ?? What does it mean?

    • If the WiFi icon lights up, it means data are being transmitted through WiFi network now.

      The triangle over the network strength icon usually means some network coverage issues. You may check the network status in Settings--About the phone -- Status.

    • Displaying the count of unread messages (number badge), or unread notifications in the app drawer or home screen is a feature of Android skin. Unfortunately, this feature is not available in vanilla Android, such as Nexus devices or Moto devices.

      You may try some apps to display the number for you on the home screen

But i wanted to tell you that when first time have switch on moto g2 that time i was getting that indication about the unread msgs of sms & whatsapp as well as miscall indication at calling icon.. but after few days its gone away.... pls advice the app name which can solve my problem....

        • Really? in my impression, the number badge feature is not available in Nexus or moto devices. I don't think there are any settings for this.

  • Prior to the Lollypop upgrade on my Moto G 2nd, I always had a H+ icon for my cellular connection. Since the upgrade, it is always just H. However, when I go into settings under "About phone" and then "Status" and then "Cellular network type", it says HSPA+. In fact, it changes. When I do not have a cellular connection, it says HSPA in the settings. When I do have a cellular connection, it says HSPA+ in the settings. Which is correct, the icon which says H or the settings which say HSPA+..

    • Mobile data connection type depends on the signal strength and available channels. The system will automatically determine the optimal connection type. Lollipop is generally smarter to establish the most reliable connection.

      When mobile data is disabled, the network type usually is shown as HSDPA.

      • I fully understand that mobile data connection type depends on signal strength. My question is when I do have a mobile data connection and the settings say HSPA(H)+ and the icon says H, which do I rely on? The HSPA+ or the H? Before the upgrade, the icon and the setting were always the same and I always had a H+ icon when I had a HSPA+ setting and vice versa. The H icon is also very tiny now compared to the old icon.
        Also, on my Moto G 2nd cell phone, when mobile data is disabled, the network type is always shown as HSPA, not HSDPA.

        • Thank you. I will try to do a speed test, although I am not certain that I know what speed is H and what is H+.

          However, I would still like to know, when you have a data connection, and one part of your Moto G 2nd is telling your speed is HSPA+ (the cellular network type) and another part of the phone (the icon) is telling you your speed is H, or vice versa, which should the user rely on as being true.
          Remember the disparity has only existed since the lollypop upgrade, before the upgrade they were always absolutely consistent!

          • To be precisely, the icon indicates the connection type, not network type. Technically, you can still get HSPA connection on a HSPA+ network.

            Anyway, normally they should be consistent.

            For the speed, HSPA+ should be faster.

  • I just bought a brand new phone and today the settings icon is gone! Where can I find it to disable the talk back feature. Please help! It only shows one screen of icons and will not swipe to right or left.

    • Which icon? For settings, you can always access them from all apps (3 dots in a circle)--Settings.

      Talkback is under Settings--accessibility-talkback.

      For home screens, you can always add more by yourself.

    • Did you disable mobile data? Or is your phone company enabled mobile data for your sim card?

      You can try to use one sim card only to see whether you have the same problem.

    • It means there are some network problems. Did you get any notifications?

      You may power off the phone, make sure the sim cards are inserted tightly, then power on the phone.

  • I have a feature of sending an e-mail message (.wav) of a voice mail left on my house phone. My MotoG will advise me that a message has been sent. I log onto my e-mail and try to download the message, but my MotoG will not let me download the message unless I am connected to WiFi . Do you know of any setting that will let me download the message?

  • Hi ! I have BSNL data connection and all of sudden I coudlnt access Internet. Sometimes it shows H , but even during that time also, i couldnt access internet. Chrome and apps are not working. It works fine in Wifi mode.

    • You need check worth the phone company. Sometimes, it could be due to temporal network problems with the phone company.

      You can try to reboot the phone and check the apn settings with the phone company.

  • Ever since I got a lollipop update for my Moto G(1st gen), my notification light has stopped working. I downloaded the light widget and tried to make it work by placing on the main screen but failed at it. What seems to be the problem?

    • If you updated to Android Lollipop, it will be easier to toggle it on/off in quick settings (still need one tap).

  • Network Signals icon in my Moto G (G1) is in orange colour and though net is connected it always shows "no connection". Please help.

    • No connection could mean some problems with internet connection. Orange color just means connection to the APN. Did you check with your phone company whether you have the internet access.

      • I have a red triangle with a white exclamation mark next to one of my recipients in the messaging contacts list. A reboot did not help. What is it telling me, do you suppose?

        • It means you cannot send message to this contact or there are some unsent messages to this this contact.

          You may check the contact details.

  • phone is working fine and it is connecting to WIFI but has an "exclamation" next to the wifi icon (like how it comes next to the mobile signals when wifi and mobile data are both off) . Net is working fine (even if i switch off mobile data and use only wifi). Not sure what the "!" is for in such a case.

    Please advice.

    • If the network is using, it should have up and down arrows. If there is no usage, normally, there should be no signal next to signal strength bars.

      The ! sign usually means internet connection is not detected or the connection is not good. This may also depend on your router.

    After upgrading to Lolipop my MotoG (G1) does not show any notification. I can hear the beep but it does not show notification icon.

  • After updating my Moto G 2 to Lollipop, the mobile data icons like H+, 3G are not visible even though I have switched on cellular data and the internet is connected.

  • I turned my text message nitification off then went to enable it and it will not turn back on or can I here it. I've even tried resetting defaults in messages. I have to keep opening messages to c if I have a text message.

  • My text message icon is not showing up when I receive texts. I get the notification sound now (that wasn't working either), but the green text box won't show up. I turned off my phone and back on with no luck.

      • Only if I go into the messages. If I go there, I can see the unread texts. And, the sound is not working (again).

        • you may check these settings
          1. Inside messaging app, check the notification settings
          2. In settings - sound, check notification settings
          3. In settings - apps - messaging, make sure notification is checked
          4. You are not in meeting mode

  • Hi Simon, i encountered a bug, when my moto g goes into sleep mode, all notications are turned off ( as intended) except the led light. whenever there is any message. the led starts blinking, and in a dark room, it's quite bright and lights up the room, I wonder why no-one raised this in the comments. Are you aware of any solutions?

  • This morning my Google search bar and the central apps icon at the bottom of the home page ( circular one with 6 dots) have lost their transparency, they are just solid white, as is the background on the apps screens. I've turned phone of and on again but they are still solid. It's not a big deal but is there a way of turning on the transparency again?

    • Because you just got the Lollipop update for your moto g. The new Google now launcher got this feature.

      The Lollipop update brought this unwelcomed white background for app drawer and settings.

      You have no choice to change these unless you change to other third-party launchers.

  • I have no use for a second sim card. Is there a way to get rid of the 'empty 2nd sim card' symbol on the status bar on top of the screen? Its annoying

    • Probably not. The phone always tries to show signal strength unless it is in airplane mode. But you cannot turn on airplane mode for one sim card slot.

    • Do you mean you cannot get the status bar even in home screen? are you using any other launchers?

      Anyway, you can reboot the phone to see whether it helps.

      For some apps, the status bar can be hidden when in full screen mode. In this case, you can swipe down from the top of the screen to bring out the status bar.

  • I can not get my protect phone M (motorola notification ) icon to show back up... I've done all the instructions somehow it was cleared

    • It is just a reminder asking you to setup the feature. If you finish the setup it should not be there.

      Anyway, you may check Settings--Security -- Device Administrators, activate Motorola Device Policy. Also in Settings--Motorola Device ID. You also need turn on location services to use this feature.

  • All incoming calls on my Moto G are going straight to voicemail. When I look at "missed calls" the incoming call isn't showing. Can you tell me what is going on?

  • I keep my data turned off on my Moto G unless I need it and I sometimes get the message that I have received a voicemail that cannot be downloaded. Other voicemails are received with no problem. Do voicemails require either data or a wifi signal?

    • No, normally, you can access your voicemail box without data connection. You actually can access voice mail from any phones.

      Are you sure it is a really a voice mail notification? Tap and hold the notification, then tap App info to find out.

  • From the Moto G manual: "At the top of the screen, icons on the left notify you about new messages or events. If you don’t know what an icon means, flick the bar down to find out." That solved all the mysterious icons for me, including some very old notifications about people connecting with me via Google Hangouts.

    • Not sure about yourquestion. You can see all emails in the email app. By default, new emails are on top of inbox.

      You can also use email widget to show a few latest emails.

    My network indicator turn color from white into orange, what does it mean ? the signal strength shows max strength and H+ shows also.

    • Probably it means the network is in using, i.e.,data are currently transferred.
      H+ means you are connected to the 3g network thorough hspa+,which is the fastest 3g connection you can get.

    • You cannot change it. If your area is covered by 3g, you will see 3g or H or H+. If only 2g network is available, you will see E or G.

      Of course, you may check with your phone company whether your sim card or your mobile plan includes 3G. For 2g only sim card, you cannot access 3g network as well.

    • You can simple disable notifications in the Messaging app. tap the menu key (3 vertical dots), tap settings, then under notifications, uncheck notifications.

    • 2g mobile data is probably the problem. The dial sim requires a 3g mobile data + 2g voice. In your case, the E inducates you only have a 2g edge data connection.

      • no.. im having 3g connection also... same response comes for H and H+ too.... just for example i have shown E screenshot. if you want i will provide those screenshots too

          • im using single sim only from the date i bought. this issue came after kitcat 4.4.4 update which 3 days ago. previoulsy mobile data was working. my mobile carrier is BSNL. and my brother also having same moto g/BSNL carrier. for him mobile data is working. is there any issue with my mobile?

          • Not sure about this. You may try to backup your data and do a factory data reset (settings--backup & reset --factory data reset). Please backup your data because factory data reset will erase all your settings and apps.

  • I have a block of data available to me from my provider. just got notified by them that all my data is roaming.
    1 what is the symbol for roaming on a icons
    2do you think something is wrong with my phone or is it the provider issue that they think the data is all roaming

    • 1. the symbol depends on the phone model/region. It is usually a R sign.
      2. did you actually travel to other countries or other regions that are not covered by your carrier? Sometimes, if you live near the boarder, this may happen. Anyway, you can always ask your carrier to disable roaming service to avoid the expensive roaming charges.

  • At the top of my phone in the notifications bar mine reads a constand stream of @ symbols i.e. @@@@@@@@@@@@@ right across the sccreen. Any ideas what it is and how i can remove them?

  • how can I get my voice mail without dialing and just use my password and how do I put it on my home page??

    • Yes, for example, some running/bicycling /hiking tracking apps can record your route workout using data.

      Some maps, like Google maps, requires data connection for navigation.

    • GPS doesn't user your mobile network. It uses its own antenna receiving signals from satellite directly.

      For Internet, in dual sim model, you cannot use voice and data (internet) simultaneously unless you get calls from the card you assigned for data.

  • Bluetooth is enabled, but your Moto G is not paired with any devicies. Trying to pair with Motorola Bluetooth headset 350.

    • The restricted assess changed message usually indicates the contact between the sim card and the metals in card slot is not good. If you trimmed the sim card by yourself from a bigger one, you may consider to get the official micro sim card.

      Sometimes, the message can also be due to some mobile network problems.

        • The network signal normally is white.

          You can add multiple Gmail accounts in your phone. You can add your Gmail about to the phone in settings - accounts. Then you can delete the old account. Of course, you may get problems with some installed apps as they may be associated with the old Google account.

          So, the best solution is to perform a factory reset (settings - backup and reset). This will erase all your settings and files. It's like a new phone after resetting. You then set it up with your own Google account. Please backup all your data before resetting.

    • Mobile data, especially 2g, consume a lot of battery if you use it continuously. Normally 3g mobile data is more battery friendly. Of course, if you use internet continuously, wifi actually is the most battery efficient.

      Anyway, don't judge the battery drain from a few minutes. You should measure it in a few hours. The battery level indicator itself may have considerable errors.

    • This happens usually when the sim card doesn't contact well. If you trimmed the sim card yourself, try to get the card with official size (micro).

      • When composing a text message, the text only uses about one third of the screen it is make it difficult to read over as you try to compose. one third of the screen is empty or showing last text. can i opt to change this layout.

    • This is normal. In most regions, the WiFi symbol and 3G symbol in Moto G do not have the arrows.

      If you can connect to the internet, you should not care about it.

    • You should umount the usb OTG before disconnecting.

      Anyway, reboot your phone to get rid of the message.

    • Did you check your voicemail box? Sometimes, it take a few to make it disappear after you listen to it due to the carrier settings.

    • Is the app still trying to send the message?

      You can delete the cache in settings--apps--all--messaging.

      Occasionally, it is caused by your carrier. They may keep trying for 24 hours.

    • If you tap the clear all button in notification window, what did you get?

      Anyway, reboot your phone should also dismiss such notifications.

    • Reboot your phone. If the problem is still there, you may have to visit local service centre to check the hardware.

    • These messages are called MMS (multi media message). You mobile plan must include this and it need mobile data.

      You may check with the phone company whether your mobile plan includes MMS. For mobile data, the settings should be in your sim card already.

    • It is probably a notification that some apps were successfully updated. You should see a notification message as well.

    • For SIM card, you need insert it correctly. Also, Moto G is a bit picky: you need get the official Micro SIM from your phone company and you should not cut yourself. Sometimes, nanoSIM to Micro SIM adapter may cause some problems. These seldom happen on other phones.

      If your Moto G is a dual SIM model but you only use 1 SIM card, put the SIM card in slot 1.

      of course, you can always check with the carrier, or test the SIM card in anothr phone to make sure the card is activated.

      For WiFi, can your Moto G scan?

    • Did you get any notification messages if you swipe down from the top of the screen? It sounds like from a third-party app.

    • You can change the Moto G default messaging app as Hangouts through Settings--More (under Wireless & Networks)--Default SMS app. Change it to Hangouts.

    • Did you listen to it from your Moto G ? Sometimes, it takes a while for it to disappear. This is different from message notifications. It may also depend on your carrier's settings.
      Anyway, if you listen to it from your Moto G ,the icon should disappear within a few hours. For a few models, you can dismiss the notification like other notification messages.

      • I do have the same problem. I always listen to my messages from my Moto G, but the notification never disappear (even after a few hours). I've tested it and it stays there even after a couple of days! I can't even dismiss the notification.
        The only thing that works is when I turn off my phone completely and turn it back on. However, that is really annoying when I tend to get more than one voice message throughout the day! I would really like to know and other way around to fix this problem.

        • This is usually is related to your carrier's voicemail server settings. Voicemail is always on the sever, not on your phone (this is different from messages). It's up to the server to update your phone.

  • The lightning sign on the battery icon indicating that it is charging does not show on my Moto G. I have to go to the drop down menu to see if the charger is being detected

  • 4.4.2 is the worst firmware I ever seen. All was working fine with 4.3. After Updating I am facing 4 Major issues.
    1. Microphone stops working in between the call (Other party will be unable to hear my voice). When this issue happens google voice search will not detect the voice.
    2. Speaker stops working after making the call (Other party will be able to hear my voice but I will be unable to hear other party voice
    3. SIM signals go blank in between the call (Apparently loose the calls if I am in the middle of the call
    4. Camera says error to connect

    Above problems will get solved If I restart the phone. Motorola support sucks. When ever I contact them they will ask for me to go to service center.

    If you have 4.3 firmware on your Moto G. Please do not upgrade...

    I mainly just use phone for texts and calls so I always switched Wi-Fi ON to check emails, internet etc and then turned it off when finished. My phone has suddenly started to show G/H/H+ in top right of screen and be constantly receiving emails etc even though the Wi-Fi is off. Why is that and what do I need to do to stop this as worried about data usage and bill!

    • Moto G is using mobile data. If your mobile plan doesn't have much data, you should disable mobile data and enable it only when you need it.

  • HELP! ET flashing light????? Between the camera lense and the speaker outlet on the face of the phone there is a pinhole. At times, there will be some type of alert tone tht sounds and this light begins to flash. I have googled this light and there is no reslults. I have called my carrier (consumer cellular) and they are unable to identify what this light is. Does anyone (especially at motorola) know what this ligh is for?

  • I have dual Sim Moto G in that if incoming call from sim 1 means while inline the second from sim 2 means there is no call intimation simply beep sound and there is no call alerts..and the downloaded picture keep as a wallpaper na the image is not so clear... and is there any option for short wallpaper ?

    • If you are talking on SIM card 1, the caller who calls to SIM card 2 will be find you unreachable. Moto G is dual standby, not dual active.

      You should download wallpaper that matches the screen resolution of your Moto G (HD 1280*720).

    • This could be caused by the mobile network. But it is also possible due to some apps.

      You can try to reboot your Moto G. If it persists and some functions are blocked, you may have to factory reset the phone.

    • Yes, you can use your Moto G while charging.

      But heavy (extended) usage is usually not recommended.

    • It is very likely due to incorrect settings for your MMS. You need call your carrier to get the correct settings.

    • The stock launcher does not support this feature. Many third-party launchers can hide apps.

    • When your mobile data is enabled, but Moto G cannot connect to 3g or HSPA networks, it will fail over to edge of gprs.

      You can disable mobile data if you are not using them.

    1). My phone was working fine yesterday. today when I try and make a call it says "Mobile Network not available" my wifi is on and connected, I'm getting emails, just can't make or receive calls. I tried to re-boot...I was going to remove and replace the battery but I can't take-out the battery.

    • 1. in the status bar, did you see any mobile network signal icons? Probably the sim card was not detected properly, or there are some problems with your mobile network. If there is no network outrage, you can try to reboot the phone to see whether you can see network signal icons.

    • Ramya, it seems like your Internet data (over mobile network, and not WIFI ) was enabled. You need to switch it off if not required and if you are not using any internet related apps like email/gmail/facebook/whatsapp/twitter/browsing internet, etc

    • This sounds like the bug in Jelly Bean. The bug was fixed in Kitkat.

      Did you update your phone to KitKat yet?

    • It seems you updated from jellybean 4.3 to kitkat 4.4. The icons are transparent so it works with all wallpapers. You have to get used to it.

      For the ringtone settings, you need check individual contact to confirm. Sometimes you need change it to someone else, then change it back to the desired one .

    • You cannot re-order the notification icons.
      Normally, there is a corresponding notification message as well, clear messages should clear it.

      • 1)no i am not talking about notification icons...it;s google play store,gmail,chrome,fm radio,camera,calendar,calculator,,,etc..how to customize those icons as per our use...in samsung you have option to edit & rearrange icons as per our use.
        2) for usb there is no option to clear the message. it disappears only when i reboot the handset.

        • Do you mean re-order app icons in the app drawer? No, the launcher in Moto G does not allow custom ordering. If you really need this feature, you may try some third-party launcher, e.g., Solo Launcher, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=home.solo.launcher.free

          For the USB (OTG)message, I used to get it. But after some update, I no longer get it. Yes, there are a lot of Moto G/Moot X users reporting this message. It is probably a region-specific issue.

          ANyway, you can long tap the message, the app info should pops out, tapping the app info should brings you to System UI. You can tap force stop to clear the message without rebooting the phone.

With my old Samsung Ace , in my messages the conversation tree was colour coded so at a glance you could see which you sent and which you received yellow/blue were the two colours the rest of the tree been black so the conversations really stood out , bit disappointed with the Moto equivalent which is white and grey text for both , do you know of an app that can replicate the Samsung or is there any settings for the Moto G? thanks Rob

    • If you set a photo for yourself, it should be very clear.

      There are no settings in Moto G for what you want to achieve.

    • Not sure what you are referring to. Is it a notification icon or something physically on your phone?

  • Recently I bought a moto g ....left my charger that came with the phone at a friends house and had to use a standard USB charger...while charging I noticed that the battery indicator wasn't showing the little lightning bolt to show being charged and on my lock screen it wouldn't show the percentage or words "charging to %" ....and now that I have the proper charger back these problems are still in effect...no indication or percentage of charge what can I do to fix these problems...normally something like this would not bug me but its a brand new phone and I would really like for these things go to work...thank you for your time..

    • You can try to shut down (power off) the Moto G, wait one or two minutes, plug the charger and connect it to the phone without turning on the phone. The screen should turn on a while indicating charging.

      If it doesn't work, you probably can try to backup your data and then perform a factory reset.

    • You probably can try to clear cache and clear data for the Factbook app (under settings - apps) to see whether it helps.

    • Alarm doesn't work if the phone is off. Almost all smartphones work in this way. This is different from old phones. There are no workarounds.

    • Did you get any notifications? It could be left by some apps. You can simply reboot/restart the phone to clear it.

    • Your Moto G was updated to Android 4.4 (KitKat). The transparent status bar works better with all wallpapers and some apps.

      The only official way to downgrade (it is not recommended) is to visit the local Motorola service centre to flush the ROM.

      Anyway, my suggestion is to get used to it and you will like the update.

  • I'm my area 3g is not Available but i'm able to use net only when I activate 3g pack.... The network symbol is orange colour when mobile data is off and white when on.... It shows E symbol when connected plz help me

    • E means edge connection. It's considered as 2g or 2.5 connection.
      You need activate 3g plan very likely because your carrier require this. Most carriers ask for 3g plan for mobile data nowadays, although your area is not covered yet. If 3g is not available, the phone can then automatically try edge, and then gprs.

  • I want to set the call settings in such a way that whenever i press the call button, moto g should automatically select and place the call from the sim which is not on Roaming.This feature would be quite productive and save money. How can I do this?

    • For dual sim models, you can set outgoing calls:
      1. always use SIM 1
      2. always use SIM 2
      3. Ask each time (default)

      There is another option of Automatic SIM selection. It will learn your usage history to determine which SIM is used. But roaming or not is not used as a criterion, as I know.

  • since updating to 4.42 my moto G displays no battery charging notifications at all!
    the only way I know it's charging is from the settings > battery screen when it says "charging" but the notification icon at the top of the phone doesn't display the lightning bolt and when you first press the power button to turn the locked screen on there is no message saying "charging 85%" etc

    • That has just happened to me, but I have no idea why, and only cames across your post when googling the problem. I hope someone can advise us

        • A quick reboot did not, but after seeing your comments to someone else I pulled the plug, turned it off, waited 5 minutes and reconnected power so the charging screen appeared. Then powered up and the charging notification started working again. I also hunted for some better notification software, as the Moto G lightning symbol is so hard to see. The Smiley Face while charging from "Battery Notifier BT free" gives a nice yellow dot, and "Light Manager" got the LED illuminated when charging too. So my problem is solved.

  • In my Moto G when I turn on Assist when in meeting the phone still rings. Also, I don't see any meeting icon in the notification bar when I enable assist. Please help.

    • Motorola Assist on Moto G considers that you are in a meeting if the calendar event:

        is from a calendar visible on device
        is from a calendar that you are the owner
        has been accepted
        is not deleted
        is not cancelled
        is not all day (all day event box checked) or duration

  • My wife and I both have Moto G phones on Giffgaff. We have noticed capital letters appearing in the notification bar at the top right, sometimes a G, sometimes an E, sometimes an H or H+, and sometimes no letter at all. What do these letters stand for please? Also, my wife's phone connects automatically to mobile networks when in range but mine does not even though we both have Giffgaff sims - any ideas please?

    • G means GPRS (the slowest mobile data connection). E indicates Edge connection (slightly faster than GPRS). H means HSPA, it is 3G connection. H+ is the fastest 3G connection (HSPA+). This is the maximum you can get on Moto G.

      For mobile network, do you mean mobile data? If you need enable it, it should connect automatically.

  • My phone every.time I try to call it says no mobile network active. I have money on my account and it have a 1x n a triangle above the signal bar????

    • You should check with the carrier who sells the SIM card. It seems maybe your card is not activated, or there are some issues with the mobile network.

  • As usual you have every icon EXCEPT the one I want to know about. There is an animated arrow pointed down and moving and when it hits the bottom a horizontal line appears. What does this icon mean?

    • It is downloading very likely. Once its done, the icon will change: there will be no animation.

      This icon is for any downloading jobs, it is not application specific. Normally, you should have a notification in notification area on what the file is. But some apps may not send notifications.

    • orange color usually means it is in use. You may try to reboot your Moto G to see whether it helps.

  • After upgrading to KitKat, the network indicators (WiFi and 3g) remain white. So there's no way of telling when and when not they're connected. I don't even see the arrows that tell that 3g is working. This has happened only after upgrading to KitKat. Earlier they would become blue after connecting.Please help.

    • If you can see the icons, it means they are connected. Why should you worry about this?

      When data are transmitted, the arrow should animated or the color will change.

      In kitkat, the status bar is transparent.

    • Maybe the connector is dirty or deformed. It's better to ask the service center to check it for you.

    My company uses the Moto G for several occasions.
    So the constant updates/notifications 'pop ups' are a little bit annoying.

    • You can disable notification for individual app. For app update notification, it is usually from Play Store app. You can disable the notification in App manager, or in Play store app itself.

      • Start Play Sore, tap the menu button (3 vertical dots), tap settings, under general, you can uncheck "auto update apps" and "notifications".

  • I am using MotoG 16GB. I have a small problem that is "Message not send" notification open every time when i open message list. How to stop that notification? Please suggest me.

    • Did you check whether you really have any failed messages?

      If you tap the app info, can you see the app is really Hangouts in app manager?

  • Whenever any data is used, a notification appears . eg: you have used 0.8mb Mb databin your last session

    Please guide to disable the same

    • This notification is very likely generated by third-party apps.

      When you see this notification, tap and hold the notification until App info pops out. Then You can disable notifications from this app.

  • Please tell me how to signoff from gmail & email accounts in this phone as I am not getting it.

    • You don't sign out from Gmail. If you do not want to use the gmail on the phone, you have to remove the account.

      The rational behind this is that smartphones are supposed to be personal devices so that you do not need sign in/sign out. You can secure your phone with a pin or passcode.

  • Using Moto G for 4 days now. I cannot change the SIM color. I go to Settings --> Dual SIM Settings --> I click on a SIM and change its color to blue and clicked Save. But the color is stuck to Gray. Wifi signal bar also in gray colour how do i change it?

    • Hi Thameem,

      The colour will reflect only when you receive the call the color on the display and missed call notification.

      Please verify the notification on left side of the screen. When you get the missed call .......

  • hello,i was wondering,does moto g allows an option to make the battery percentage such as 50% etc. show on the status bar? i'm thinking of buying this phone and i find that feature as very important to me. thanks!

  • I have a black and white wifi icon top left. it says it should be blue am I missing something? so I don't know if I'm on wifi or not.

    • it is normally in blue when in use. But this also depends on the region.

      if you can use WiFi normally, it is not necessary to care about it.

      • White and black on the left is stands for WiFi hotspot enabled. With that you able to share your mobile data with others. If not sharing it sucks battery as u are having a glass of juice.

  • Hi I'm using moto g from past 10days and I have noticed small notification problem will u please help me, problem is 1.when I active flight mode or WiFi network the notification doesn't show's anything.. and I noticed that when I plug in charger I dosnt notify any sound but it charges... please help me if this is a problem

    • When enabling WiFi or flight mode, there should be no notifications. But you should see the corresponding icons in the status bar (top of the screen).

    I connected my moto g to my pc through USB to micro USB cable and transferred the files. But the problem is that after i unplug the device, it shows the following notification " Removed USB Storage. usb storage removed. Insert now media " with the symbol of micro SD card and the top left corner. Just for the info i first unmounted it from moto g and then pulled the plug.

    please help me with this.

      • Is there any update to the aforementioned problem of USB un-mounting on MOTO G? Still facing the same problem :( ..

  • My Moto G does not any icons on the left side about incoming mails, messages and even does not show incoming calls on the home screen, it only rings with one blinking white light.

    Please suggest some settings for the same.

  • My moto g will connect to my works wifi absolutely fine but when I get home it says connected to wifi but fails to load anything google Facebook etc also the wifi symbol turns red and has a small flashing triangle next to it and signal symbol turns red yet my flat mates can use the house wifi just fine???

    • It is very likely due to router settings. Did you try to reboot the router?

      For Moto G, you may try to:
      1. Go to Settings-- Wi-Fi and long press the WiFi network name, then choose Forget network. Scan again and re-enter all your details
      2. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced. Make sure Avoid poor connections is not ticked.

    • There are no settings in Moto G for this as I know. ( For samsung or LG phones, you can enable percentage in status bar, or check the LED color).

      The notification LED in Moto G (next to the front camera) will not notify the charging status.

      Of course, there are some third-party apps, but it will be the same as checking from notification.

    Recently i bought a new MOTO G. I am not able to see the indication after charging complete. Every time i need to drag down and see the notification. There it shows charged. Is there any way to find out whether the battery is still charging or completed.

  • Whenever I receive a text message or any message in other apps, the whole content of the message get displayed on the notification window. I need some privacy how to stop that ?

    • This is actually designed in purpose. It make it possible to check the messages without opening the app.

        Is there an option to disable that, and only show the notification as - "1 new message" or something like that, instead of showing the message details?

        • Probably not. You can only turn off the notification, but you can not customize the message on Moto G.

            all i want is, that the notifications should not display the details (text) of the new sms/whatsapp message...it should only show that a new msg has been received...

          • Unfortunately, you can turn off message notification, but you cannot customize it, on Moto G

  • How can I have a large display, or recurrent tone, that I have a new message? The tiny blinking light is too hard to see.

  • Nowhere to post this question and the forum has no way of signing in so.........SMS text messages:

    (1) How can I attach a contact to an outgoing SMS? There seems to be no way I can share a contact with others through sms except that I need to copy the mobile number on to the clipboard and then paste it on to the new message but name does not get copied.. this is a very basic feature available even on entry level non-smart phones.

    (2) how to forward a message ? This is a very very basic feature available on very much basic phones but I am surprised why this is missing on Moto G.

    • To forward a message, you just tap and hold the message body until the context menu pops out. You can then choose to forward.

      To attach contact info, I don't think you can do it. (There are too many fields in contact info.)

    • Usually, that appears when mobile is turned on. Everytime that I found it there, I turned on & off mobile data, and it goes away. The white network signal re-appears. I think it is always searching for a 3G mobile network, which in my case is 2G network, I am using only Wi-Fi for Internet. The orange colour signal looks very scary :-P, thus I came here for a proper answer to it. My question : I saw that white light notification upon charging my phone only once. Is it hidden within someone setting, or the led is gone. My phone is just a week old. :-(

      • If you want to use 2G only, you can change network as GSM only (Settings -- More -- Mobile networks).

        Normally, if you disable mobile data, it should not connect automatically unless you enable it. If you want totally disable mobile data, you can delete the APN, or mess up the settings.

    • It could be a region-specific feature. But as long as you can use the phone normally, you should not care too much about it.

  • Yes ...I when I disables mobile data that symbol appeared... What I what to know is that how to remove it (without turning on the data obviously...). When I first bought the phone it wasn't there but when I used mobile data the first time and then turned it off that stupid symbol appeared...

    • It depends: some owners may prefer that notification.

      Anyway, it is harmless at least. Probably, there is no way to hide it by default.

  • In the dual sim version.. there is no indication in messaging or hangout app as in the sms is come via which sim.. how can i fix that?

    • Hangout does not support dual SIM yet till now, as I know. You do not have options to identify or choose the sim card.

  • My Moto G shows the network strength icon in an orange sort of colour and there is a small R in top of it, do you know what that means ?

  • My missed call icon is in blue instead of the usual black and white shown here... is there any way for me to fix this?

    • Usually it indicates something wrong in the system or in the SIM card.

      You can try to reboot the phone.

  • I have a moto g and there is a triangular icon that looks like a Teepee in the top left of the notification screen

    • As I open the camera in my Moto G , it appears quite dull(even in bright room light).Flash and Panorama are in Off mode. Kindly recommend from where to change the settings.
      Need help ASAP.

      • Did you try to take a picture and check the quality of the photo?

        Usually the screen brightness does not affect the camera. But anyway, try to change the screen brightness as auto to check whether there is difference.

      • guys while talking or while dialing if i press power key call will get disconnect... what would be the issue ???? i check the call settings but i did not find any setting to option to do the changes ...

        • Guys I called up moto g cust care they told me to reset my phone for issues which am facing, they also told me that sir we are agreeing that issues were there with 4.4 KitKat android, day by day we are working on issues which peoples are facing... So please reset your phone all your issues will rectified. I have reset the phone and now its working fine...

          • Thank you for sharing the info. Normally, after a major update, it is recommended to perform a factory data reset.

        • This is the default setting in Android.

          You can change this at Settings--Accessibility, uncheck Power button ends call.
